Game overview

Genre: Pure building Initial game play:

o

This game takes place where this particular Squirrel (Player) move out of the over populated land and went to loan a piece of land from DBS. From there, players will have plan wisely on where they want to plant their trees and manage the amount of squirrels moving in and have to make them happy.

Target audience: Teenagers/Adults (13 and above) No. of players: 1

Project scope:
o Game board (4x4) o Trees (16 pieces)
o o

Acorn (100 pieces) Squirrels (48 pieces)

Gameplay and mechanic:

Objective:

Player will have to make sure that the customers (Outsider squirrels) who come in and stay in the tree stay happy and cater to their needs. Player earns by renting out trees to other squirrels and different types of trees affect sales rates. For example, when a family who moved in have a lot of baby squirrels, player will have to build a playground for them to keep them as well as the community happy. When the squirrels are happy, they will get extra acorns from them.

How to play: Player Fill up 1 tree with family or other squirrels.

Player must plan on where and when to build another tree because when the tree with squirrels living in dies (which is in 3 turns), they will have to move to another tree. Collect loans from the squirrels so that player can pay the loan to DBS and the remainder can be used to build new things that cater to the community or upgrade players house.

Able to take loan from DBS to advertise the land. Mechanics: Objects Acorn Trees Squirrels

Movement: Player is to put squirrels into the trees. Each tree will only be able to hold 3 squirrels and last for 3 turns. Player will have to cater to the community. For example, when there are a lot of baby squirrels, he/she will have to build a playground for them. Player can also choose to take loan from DBS to advertise the land so that more squirrels will come in and stay.

The picture below is an example of how it will look like. Lego blocks represent the trees and the colour post-its area is the playground.

Loan Concept Interest rate is capped at 20% If player loans 10 acorns, they will have to pay back 12 acorns. DBS will allow players to pay back within 2 turns, and per turn pay 6 acorns. When player is unable to pay back a loan within 2 turns, player loses. OR DBS apply mortgage concept. (Seize property?) When player return back loan and receive extra acorn earnings from the rent, that extra is for personal use or to build things for the community.

Objective:

A one player game. The objective of the game is player must manage their finance and making the right decision so that they can pay DBS back the loan

if they have taken any. Player will have to try his/her best to put the squirrels into the trees once they have advertised for them. If not, player will lose his/her population points. How to play:

There are 5 phases to follow.

#1: Pay off any loans/interest #2: Buying of seeds and planting of seeds. #3: Advertising #4: Roll dice for customers. #5: Receive payment from customers.

Player will only have to pay off the loan if they have taken any. Player can choose to buy seeds or not depending on situation. If/When player have enough acorns, they can choose whether they wish to advertise. There are 2 types of advertising. Instant advertise where player can advertise on the spot when they buy the advert. Or, the long-term advertise where it will take place next turn after purchasing and it last for 3 turns. After advertising, player can roll a D4 to see what group of customers they get. (Bachelor, Couples, Family or Party) From there, player will have to allocate them to the trees that they have planted.

Player will get the rent payment from the Squirrels at the end of each turn. So when player plant a normal tree with the returns of 1 per squirrel, depending on the number so squirrels staying inside, it will be the number of acorns that the players get back. Player also can choose to take loan from bank if they do not have enough acorns to purchase the seeds they want. There will be allowance of 2 turns, 3 turns and 4turns to return depending on the amount of acorn that was loan. However, if player did not return the loan on time, they will

have to pay 50% interest (round up to the nearest number) during their next payment. Player will have to watch their popularity bar because it is counted as experience gain in order for them to level up, either having a bigger land or get expose to different group of squirrels.

#4: Roll a D4 three times for customers and assign. #5: Receive payment from customers. Placement of Trees

Player can only place unlimited amount of normal, big and good trees as long as they have space.

Different type of trees available

Players will have to plan properly on which tree to plan and at the right time because different tree takes different time to grow as well as the duration on how long they can last. Squirrels will only leave the tree when the tree dies.

Placement of Squirrels

Players have to refer to this table and see which group of squirrels can be put together and which group cannot be put together. If player fail to do so, at the end of the tree life (or end of their stay) their popularity will drop due to unhappy customers.

Different types of loan available

Players will have to make a wise decision on which loan to choose. If they were to loan and unable to pay the right amount within the turns, they will have to pay extra 50% interest in the next loan payment.

There will also be a weekly rent payment for the land since player started with loaning the land from DBS.

Levelling up

Feedbacks from play testers:

Game progresses in very slow pace

During mid-game, the sprite of trees is blocked by one another. There is no clear objective and there is no ending in the game. The World tree seems to be blocking view of players.
