Booting Process comparsion

An important aspect of Windows 8 s evolution is the fine tuning of the start-up process. Technologies such as solid state drive (SSDs) and Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) aside, the next iteration of Windows comes with optimizations which will let Windows 7 in its boot dust. Featuring a new start-up mechanism which combines cold boot with resuming from hibernate, Windows 8 delivers unmatched speed, drastically reducing the time it takes toreach Metroready or desktop-ready. The next version of Windows closes user sessions on shutdown, but makes sure to hibernate the kernel session. Only a small portion of memory is actually written to disk, it s what the Redmond company calls, session 0 hibernation, as opposed to full hibernation. If you re not familiar with hibernation, we re effectively saving the system state and memory contents to a file on disk (hiberfil.sys) and then reading that back in on resume and restoring contents back to memory, explained Gabe Aul, a director of program management in Windows. Using this technique with boot gives us a significant advantage for boot times, since reading the hiberfile in and reinitializing drivers is much faster on most systems (30-70% faster on most systems we ve tested). The two graphics included with this article, courtesy of Microsoft, reveal the comparison between the new Windows 8 start boot and the old Windows 7 cold boot.

In this article, I tried to compare the features of Windows 7 operating system with Windows 8 operating system. Though Windows 8 operating system is not yet been released, some rumors are spreading across the features of Windows 8 operating system in the internet. The features which I mentioned in the Windows 8 are of speculations. Some of the features may come with the upcoming Windows 8 operating system, some may not. When we try to compare the Windows 7 operating system with Windows 8, first of all we have to know the features of Windows 7 and Windows 8. Here are some features of Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating system. Windows 7 features Windows 7 includes a number of new features when compared to Vista. Some of them are touch and handwriting recognition, support for virtual hard disks, improved performance on multi-core processors, improved boot performance, kernel improvements. Windows 7 adds support for system using multiple heterogeneous graphics cards from different vendors, a new version of Windows Media Center, a Gadget for Windows Media Center, improved media features, the XPS Essentials pack and Windows Power Shell included. The taskbar has seen the biggest visual change, where the quick launch toolbar has been replaced with the ability to pin applications to the task bar. Buttons for pinned applications are integrated with the task buttons. These buttons also enable the Jump Lists feature to allow easy access to common tasks. Not only these, there are several other major changes have done to the Windows 7 operating system. Lots of new features are included in the Windows 7 operating system when compared to Windows Vista. Due to inclusion of this software's and additional features, Windows 7 is the highest selling operating system in the history of Microsoft. The below are the features of the upcoming Windows 8 operating system. Since Microsoft not yet officially declared, these features may or may not include in the upcoming Windows 8 operating system. Windows 8 Features 1)Windows 8 includes a new "Hybrid Boot" option that uses "advanced hibernation functionality" on shutdown to allow faster startup times. Another new feature is, the ability to create a Portable Workspace, an installation of Windows 8 on a USB storage device. 2)Based on the Milestone 1 (build 7850, with a build date of September 22, 2010) which was leaked in the internet to P2P/torrent sharing networks, on Milestone 1 includes a ribbon interface for Windows Explorer, a PDF reader called Modern Reader, an updated task manager called Modern Task Manager and native ISO mounting 3)Based on the Milestone 3 (build, build 7971), which was released on March 29, 2011. It also has a Welcome screen, new packaged application model called AppX that is based on Silverlight. Windows Store to review and buy applications online, and a setting to automatically adjust window color to fit the wallpaper. It also includes a stripped down "Immersive" version of Internet Explorer, similar to the mobile version of Internet Explorer, but using the desktop Trident rendering engine. 4)Windows 8 will have built in Internet Explorer 10 which has more advance features, and it take advantage of hardware-acceleration for faster browsing and better performance 5)Another Best thing with Windows 8 is, it is optimized for touch screen devices, but will equally support keyword/mouse based desktops, net books , notebooks etc., According to Microsoft, you choose the device, Windows 8 is going to run on it.

6)Windows 8 is going to use a new File system called "Protogon". Since the NTFS file system was introduced with Windows NT, Windows 8 may perhaps be the OS that Microsoft will use to debut a next generation file system called Protogon. In the new file system we are going to get a detailed information about any device which is connected to the system. . 7)Windows 8 will be having a updated windows 8 installer, which can cleanup the disk. It will be helpful while installing the OS to clean the disk. 15)Better and more intuitive system views.

Compare Windows 7 with Windows 8 Now we try to compare Windows 7 operating system with Windows 8 operating system. Surely, we can say in case of Boot time, there will be significant changes in the upcoming Windows 8 operating system compared to Windows 7. Better GUI will be there in Windows 8. New features like ISO image verifier, which verifies iso image is genuine or not. Login page of Windows 7 OS looks better, few changes may happen for login page of Windows 8. Facial recognition will be added to the login page, so that no need to type your password again and again when your computer is locked, just sit in front of your webcam, your computer will be unlocked. When we try to compare Security of Windows 7, it is highly improved from Vista. In the upcoming Windows 8, we can surely say more security will be there. A reset function will be included, so that when your system is affected with virus, just start the reset function, virus will be removed and your system will be secure. Finally, we can say when we compare to Windows 7 operating system with Windows 8, little changes will be there in the Graphics section(which include themes, wallpapers, gadgets, login page etc.,). Major changes will be there in Security and Boot up time sections. The good thing is, there will be no additional hardware required for Windows 8. Same hardware of Windows 7 will be sufficient. So we can expect, Windows 8 will be better than Windows 7 operating system.

Windows 7 is the current release in the series of Windows operating systems by Microsoft. Windows 7 was officially made available to public on October 22, 2009 and was very popular among the public. It has succeeded in winning the hearts of people because of its simplicity and user friendly interface. Failure of Windows Vista can also be seen as another reason behind the huge success of Windows 7. But nowadays, Windows 8 is creating a lot of buzz among the world of operating systems. Windows 8 is the next version of Windows operating systems which is yet to be released. A few week before Microsoft has released the developer preview of Windows 8 and has received great response from the public. The release of final version of Windows 8 is expected to be somewhere around late 2012. This article explains about some of the major improvements in Windows 8 which will help you to compare Windows 7 vs Windows 8 and make a decision when the new OS is released. Metro user interface Even though touch feature was initially introduced in Windows 7, it was not really up to the mark. So in Windows 8, Microsoft has revised and developed it to make it better and exciting than before. As a result of this came the Metro Interface which makes Windows 8 more user friendly. Good bye to traditional start menu The conventional start menu of Windows operating systems have been replaced by start screen in Windows 8. But the good thing is that Microsoft hasnt completely eliminated the traditional desktop, you can still access it in Windows 8. The new start screen of Windows 8 is much easier to work with as it allows easier access to applications and other programs and files. Support for multiple monitors Support of multiple monitors is enhanced on Windows 8 than its predecessor. Using Windows 8 users can have the start screen in one monitor and the desktop version in another. You can also have different icons for items in different monitors. Support for ARM processers With Windows 8 Microsoft has extended its support for ARM based computers. This is something which was not possible previously. Thats all with the information about some of the major improvements in Windows 8 operating system. Windows 8 has transformed big-time. One of the biggest changes being that Windows 8 is no longer the user interface. This happens to be a mixture of Windows 7 and Metro which happens to be the interface that was first seen in the offering of the Windows Phone 7. It runs well enough on ARM processors. ARM PCs will not be able to run the legacy code. They will receive only

the Metro interface. From your point of view, this implies that they are not going to run any virus at this point of time in the wild. Also owing to the initial low volume, they are likely to fall well behind even Apple as probable targets. Deployment If you deploy Windows 8 on ARM, a firm can effectively take its desktop right off the target list for several years whereas the market catches up as the trade-off is the removal of all legacy desktop codes. Owing to the fact that the code may be a decode or even older than that, it is said to lack even the ability to be well updated. It is time to bring in a newer version on for the manager who is the owner to be able to put the aging code right out of its misery and introduce

the complete desktop into the 21st century instead. End Results This results in deployment within a desktop environment which is largely not in the least bit affected by viruses. It is well protected by built in antivirus products that do not have all the previous unsupportable codes that some people have now put off thereby putting a stake in. A Final Word One of the issues involving Windows 8 has to do with numerous choices. You possess the professional version on one of two configurations, namely, desktop and laptop. From now on you will be able to receive an additional hardware from factors as well as an additional choice, processor type and it is fairly significant. This gives numerous choices. The more the choices, more is time required to make a choice. It is likely that you find that one of these choices comes within the limits of your needs when compared to the other set that you have, you will have to take into consideration the merits of these added choices before making a proper choice between these Oses. I hope this article has fairly compared Windows 7 with Windows 8 with respect to deployment.

Microsoft promised a lot more features are going to be placed in windows 8 in the conference which was recently held. So we can say Windows 8 is going to rock on all the devices. I am eagerly waiting for the Windows 8 Operating System.

Windows 8 vs Windows 7 vs OS X Lion

The new OS has a brand new interface, new processor support, massively improved touch features and a host of interesting new things, and it's quite dramatically different from the Windows 7 we know and love. It's also very different from Apple's OS X Lion, which introduced massively improved touch features and a host of interesting new things. So which one are you likely to prefer - Apple's OS, or Microsoft's? Would you be better off sticking with Windows 7? Let's find out. Windows 8 vs Windows 7 vs OS X Lion: hardware These days OS X is a 64-bit Intel-only affair, while Windows 7 requires 32-bit or 64-bit Intel or AMD processors. Windows 8 adds ARM support to the mix, although ARM devices will need specially compiled applications. Actual system requirements for each OS are reasonably low: Lion wants a Core 2 Duo or better with 2GB of RAM, while Windows 7 and 8 both want a 1GHZ processor with 1GB of RAM (2GB for 64-bit). As ever, OS X is only officially supported on Apple kit while Windows is available on all kinds of hardware, and OS X is strictly a desktop OS. Windows 7 is technically a tablet OS too, while Windows 8 has been specifically designed with tablets and touch-screen PCs in mind.

EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE: Windows 8 is designed to run on everything: Intel laptops, AMD desktops, ARM tablets and anything else you can think of Windows 8 vs Windows 7 vs OS X Lion: interface The Windows 8 interface takes a bit of getting used to, as it's a combination of the familiar Windows interface with a few big changes - especially on tablets. T he Start menu's gone, replaced by a Start screen that resembles the Windows Phone and Kinect interfaces, and programs will be able to run in full screen mode or tiled together in a split screen view. The traditional Windows desktop will be available too, and Windows Explorer will get an Office-style ribbon interface. We like what we've seen of Windows 8 so far, but the interface is still in development so it's too early to reach a firm conclusion on whether it works or not. There's no doubt that it's much nicer on tablets than Windows 7 is, though. Lion is more of an evolutionary step: scrollbars have been squashed, the colour bleached out of the UI, the iOS-style LaunchPad app launcher added and a bloody horrible skin put on top of the otherwise excellent iCal, along with dozens of minor interface improvements. It's essentially a more refined version of the Snow Leopard UI - or at least, it is until you use it with a trackpad. Then it becomes a very different beast.

SITTING PRETTY: We love the Metro user interface, but the classic Windows desktop is there to keep old hands happy Windows 8 vs Windows 7 vs OS X Lion: touch Windows 8, like Lion, is all about the fingers. Forget Windows 7's faintly horrible touch features: Windows 8 is firmly finger-friendly, with a nice on-screen keyboard, gesture recognition, palm rejection - so you don't accidentally hit something if your palm touches the screen - and "fuzzy hit targeting" to work out what bit of the screen you intended to poke. It shouldn't work, but it does: while the on-screen UI elements appear too small for touch (just like they do on Windows 7), the fuzzy targeting does a sterling job on the standard Windows controls.

For apps, however, it's up to the developers to translate the touch data. It'll be interesting to see how that works out. Apple doesn't currently make touch-screen PCs, but Lion is still touchy-feely: it works best with a trackpad such as the ones built into MacBooks or Apple's optional Magic TrackPad, enabling you to swipe between full-screen apps, call up Mission Control to see your Spaces windows and open apps, zoom, rotate and generally fiddle around with on-screen items. The trackpad scrolling is designed to emulate iOS scrolling, which means in traditional PC terms Lion's scrolling is upside down. You can reverse that if you wish.

TOUCHY FEELY: The Metro interface has been designed with touching and swiping, not pointing and clicking, in mind

Here are the features expected to be present in Windows 8 according to various sources on the internet.

Cloud Synchronization in Windows 8

Cloud synchronization is something that is talked about a lot these days. Even Google is going after it and has expressed its plan to try in this field. At such it is believed that Windows 8 will come with this exciting feature of This will ensure for Microsoft that they do not lag behind and capture the cloud market in its initial stages. Cloud Synchronization helps to synchronize data and files to a cloud system. This can be done on a Microsoft server on a third party server. This feature is going to be unique and successful as it is innovative feature.

Windows 8 on a USB drive

It is expected that there will be an option for Windows 8 users to carry their Windows 8 profile and settings with them on a USB device. This feature has been given different names by different sources like Windows 8 on USB drive and Windows 8 portable workspace. However it is also expected that in the coming Windows 8 this version will be availed only by enterprise license users. All you need to carry Windows 8 profile and settings is a 16 GB pen drive. It will allow to copy Windows 8 installation to a USB drive. Then just plug the USB in any other computer and Windows 8 is ready to work. This is something really benefial as people will not have to carry systems with them for using them.

Ribbon UI in Windows 8

Ribbon UI is a part of Microsoft Office 2010. At such everyone is hoping that it will also be a part of the upcoming Windows 8. The leaked paictures of Ribbon Ui on the internet is creating a lot of buzz among the people and people are talking about whether this feature will be easy to use or not. However there had been no official remark from Microsoft in this regard. The only problem with the introduction of Ribbon UI is that since people are used to the old interface they may find it hard to switch to this new interface. Lets see how things turn around. However in my opinion there will be definitely an option for users to try the old interface also in case they are not

satisfied with this older interface. Thus in brief Ribbon UI feature is going to create a lot of buzz when Windows 8 is launched.

In-built PDF reader in Windows 8

You might feel annoyed when your system refuses to open a file when acrobat reader is not present in your system. This is the reason why most of the system users download acrobat reader first of all. However this is going to change with the launch of Windows 8. It is expected as per the sources on internet that Windows 8 will come with an inbuilt PDF reader. As we know that Internet explorer is an essential part of Windows. On similar lines keeping in mind the importance of PDF files and their increasing use Microsoft had finally decided to launch in built PDF reader that comes with it for free. It has been named as Mordern reader. This will not only limit your headache of installing Acrobat reader but will also save your time. There will be features found in Acrobat Reader of course with different names like Zoom in and zoom out, jump to a page number etc. However there are rumours that there will not be an option to edit PDF files using this PDF reader.

Hard reset button in Windows 8

This is just like restore factory settings commonly found in mobiles . Using this feature you will be able to reset everything back to the original state. Thus this is really a very good feature. This will be a button, thus a hardware feature. All a user will have to do is to press this button. This button is expected to be at some safe place to prevent accidental use and thus removal of data. This is really a very good feature. What people do is that they keep installing unwanted programs, later keep deleting them which consumes a lot of time. The hard reset button in Windows 8 is expected to prevent this inconvenience.

Facial detection in Windows 8

This feature has been called as My PC Knows Me by the Microsoft. The computer need to be present with Hardware sensors that will detect people using the computer and also recognise the face using various complex algorithms. This feature can also be enabled for login and thus will help you to prevent unwanted access to your computer. You can even set it for multiple users enabling it to switch accounts between two different faces , I

mean users. This feature is expected to bring revolution in the market and is one of the evidences of the advancement Microsoft has made.

3D support in Windows 8

It is expected that Windows 8 will support 3D. If this feature comes in real it will definetly make Windows 8 a big success. This is evident from the fact that 3D TVs are gaining a lot of popularity all over the world. It is still not clear that whether to view 3D display in Windows 8 computer whether 3D glasses or transmitters will be necessary or not as is required in 3D TVs. If Microsoft could eliminate the need of 3D glasses it will be an added advantage to this feature.

New browser in Windows 8

Microsoft had realized that Chrome can give it a very tough competition so far as the browser segment is concerned. Thus it is believed that it is coming up with a new browser called immersive browser in Windows 8. The new browser will have a lot of interesting new features just like chrome. It will have all the features like favaurite button, forward and backward button and much more.

History Vault feature in Windows 8

According to various source on the internet, Microsoft is going to launch this new feature called History Vault . It is inspired from the Time Machine feature in Mac OS. Using this feature you can create a backup for your files and later acces them providing date and time. There are rumours regarding the place where the files will be kept as backup. The possible options are internal hard drive, external storage devices or the cloud based storage. In my opinion we should leave the choice to Microsoft as they can do the best justice with this.
