Chapter 1 Question (Value 10 points)

1. What is happening in the exposition of the story?


- The exposition of this story is about how the narrator explains her life at one
summer that was important to her because that’s where a point in her life changed.

2. Who is the narrator of the story? Which point of view is being used?
-The narrator of the story is a fourteen year old name lily. And she is using first person
point of view.

3. The narrator makes an allusion about the bees on page 2. What does she allude
to and why?
-Lily alludes to the bee’s that come through her wall, almost heaven sent like when
Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary.

4. Lily says that the bees could have stung her until she died, and it would not have
been the worst thing to happen. What do you learn about her from this quote?
-When lily says that quote, I learn that she is not scared of dying but looks at it as if the
bees were angels sent to kill her. But after that quote, she says “people who think dying
is the worst, thing don’t know a thing about life.”

5. What does Lily hope would happen in Paradise?


- Lily hopes her paradise would be dying and spending with her mother forever. And
each ten thousands years make up for something she always wished for her mom.
Also spending centuries telling Lily's mother how she felt living with T.Ray.

6. Why does T. Ray tell Lily about her mother before she starts school?
-T-ray tells lily she was the one that grabbed for one second and then a second later
it went off and her mother was dead.

7. On page 26, Lily says that "a new rooftop would do wonders" for her. What does
she mean by this?
-Lily meant, she wants to leave that house. To runaway from t-ray and her misery
there.

8. What does Rosaleen steal from the church? Why does Lily say that Rosaleen had
"less sense" than she thought?
-Rosaleen steals the fans from the church after being told the by the reverend, “no”.

The Quote relates to the first chapter because Lily is like a bee and without her
mom, it’s like she’s somewhat lost with her queen and lily now misses her mom
because she wants to know her but instead lives in a hell-house with her dad t-ray
and her nanny Rosaleen.
