4 weeks . course assignment systems thinking


The course was aimed at studying the teen darwaza bazaar in the
old ahmedabad city from a systems point of view where its social,
economical, historical and political issues were taken into account.
The course highlighted the non-linear aspect of the organic
growth within a system that has evolved over decades. This study
helped me broaden my outlook towards a multi-functional system
that grows and attains stability, thus allowing to think more
efficiently about complex issues within a bigger context.

The final deliverable was an life size installation of the entire


scenario at the teen darwaza focusing on the experience delivered
by the system as a whole to a person travelling and interacting
with the spaces and the elements as they function.

information visualization
The project was aimed at understanding the user requirements
and the challenges posed to them by the existing gujarat bus
service.
The process followed included studying the existing bus route
pattern, the network of stations and vehicles and the number of
people traveling on various routes at the ahmedabad bus depot
and then designing a information system which will assist the
travelers in way finding through the bus depot.
The primary aim of this project was to make the information as
simple as possible for the traveler, using intuitive visuals.

The various information visuals developed, suite different locations at the bus
depot such as entrance, platform etc and provide contextual information that a
passenger might seek.
Thus distributing the information over stages to assist a traveler as he progresses
through different zones at a bus depot.

2 weeks . course assignment classroom project


This classroom project was aimed at designing and developing a public awareness
system to assist the existing driving school education process.
The interactive flash interface provides a driving test scenario with the common day
to day situations on Indian roads.
It helps an instructor to observe the learner’s response to various situations and
further assist him to understand the traffic rules and regulations in a better manner.

Moving images was course that involved
visualizing objects and words metaphorically to
reflect a specific characteristic of self.
The word “intense” and an object “hammer” were
chosen to represent intricacy as a characteristic
identity. This was done through five frames which
try to represent the relation between intensity and
details in a metaphoric manner.
The context tries to draw a relation between
intricacy as an outcome of intensity.

A linear story was conceived
after studying the elements of
traditional story telling. The model

from an ancient Indian Sanskrit
transcript “panchatantra” where
every story has a moral learning.

story telling (non-linear)


This course assignment was an attempt to research and document the age old art of
narrating mythological stories in a non linear fashion using ‘mata ni pachadi’ as the
medium.
Mata ni pachadi is the traditional art of block printing using intricately carved wooden
blocks on cloth. The images that are used in a repetitive manner to bring in rhythm in
the composition and different art blocks are composed to narrate a story. Since there
is no order or sequence of these printed images, this is primarily a non linear mode of
story telling.
After spending a few days with the artists, a video archive was created to document
the process of creation of this art work. The same was then made into a digital video
document showcasing the various steps involved.

2 weeks . course assignment UI prototyping


The project on UI prototyping explored idea
generation, concept development, user testing
and prototyping of the physical product. The aim
of the course was to understand the various stages
of product design and the process followed after a
product idea is conceived.
The process followed explores the concept of a
convergent device with multiple features based
on user study conducted and dealing with the
ergonomic issues. A non-working prototype for the product features
device was made followed by the interaction design
for the interface of the product.

2 weeks . course assignment usability testing


This course taught various user study methodologies and various techniques to collect information from those studies
conducted.
The assignment provided an opportunity to study the usability of the college e-mail portal and identify the problems in the
existing service. This was done through contextual enquiry and questionnaire based the studies.
A paper prototype of the task flow and the new interface was designed based on the inferences drawn from the usability
study.

The project from the government of
maharashtra, required developing visuals to
depicts the cattle management FAQ’s for the
rural farmers of the state in local language.
After understanding the various processes,
visuals were developed. Further, user testing
conducted on the visuals helped iterate
them for better understanding by the rural
population in the state.
The illustrations are being used to
implement an online service that will be
available in all villages over the next few
years.
