INTRODUCTION This Report outlines the basis of design and detailing of Civil, Structural and Architectural works associated with BOP Package (Excluding Power Block) of 2X250MW Satpura Thermal Power Station unit s 10 & 11 for Madh ya P radesh Powe r Generating Compan y L imit ed(MP PGCL).To be constructed by McNally Bharat Engineering Company Ltd(MBECL), Kolkata. The Detailed Engineering shall be carried out as per the specification no.4100 B Volume- II (part-V) titled Specification for Civil Structural and Architectural works. Detailed design shall be reviewed by DESEIN/MPPGCL and MBECL shall carry out work after receiving approval from reviewing authorities. This lists Codes and Standards to be adopted and briefly describes the basic concept, requirements and features pertinent to different Plants, structures & facilities.

2x250MW Satpura Thermal Power Station unit 10&11 3.00.00 SOIL CHARACTERISTICS Soil investigation has been carried out to find the Soil characteristics of the Plant site and generate data required for foundation design parameters to be adopted in final design. The top soil of the Plant site is generally dense yellowish grey silty or clayey sand with kankar, nodules , rock chips. weathered rock is generally encounter with in 3m. The thickness of the rocky layer is more than 3 to 4 m. The foundation will be shallow foundation like isolated footings/raft as per design and SBC shall be as per the approved soil report. 4.00.00 LOADS All structures and portions thereof shall conform to the latest revision of relevant Indian Standard Codes & specifications and also to the various other technical requirements. All structures shall be designed to sustain within the stress limitation as specified in the Code, all dead loads plus assigned live, equipment, wind, seismic or other design loads. a) Dead Loads (DL) Dead load shall include the weight of all structural components and architectural appurtenances incorporated in the structures plus hung loads and any other permanent, externally applied load. This should also include equipment dead load. IS-875 (Part-1) shall be followed for dead loads of materials included in the same. The following unit weight of material shall be considered for computation of loads. Loads given in IS: 875 (part-I) shall be made use of for material not listed below. Wind Loading (WL) Wind loading will be in accordance with Indian Standard Code IS-875 for a basic wind speed of 39 m/sec. upto a height of 10 meters above mean ground level. Following probability factor; terrain, height and structure size factor; and topography factor as per IS-875, Part 3 shall be considered in design of all structures:. Seismic Loading (SL) The lateral forces will be established in accordance with the recommendations of IS-1893. The site falls in Zone-III as identified in the map in IS-1893. Importance factor shall be taken as 1.5 in general for industrial buildings.

Temperature Loads (TL) The structures shall be designed to withstand stresses due to fifty (50) percent of the total temperature variation. The total temperature variation for temperature loading should be taken as two thirds (2/3) of the average annual variation in temperature. The average maximum annual variation for this purpose will be taken as the difference between the mean daily temperature (of 6.5 C) during the coldest month of the year and mean daily maximum temperature (of 48.5 C) during the hottest month of the year. Expansion and contraction due to changes of temperature of materials of a structure shall be considered and adequate provision shall be made for the effects produced as per provision in the relevant IS codes.

a)

Reinforced Concrete Structures shall be designed in accordance with the requirements of IS456 & IS-875 for all possible combination of loads, e.g. dead load, live load, equipment loads, crane loads, wind or seismic loads, soil loads and surcharge loads, as stated in clause 4.01.00 above. b) The following grades of concrete as per IS-456 shall generally be used.

Expansion and construction joints shall be provided wherever required. All expansion and construction joints of water retaining structures in RCC shall be made water tight using 230 mm wide PVC ribbed water stops with central bulb.

MINIMUM COVER TO FOUNDATION BOLTS Minimum distance from the center line of foundation / anchor bolt to edge of pedestal shall be the maximum of the following: i) Clear distance from the edge of the base plate / base frame to the outer edge of the pedestal shall be minimum 50mm

ii) Clear distance from face of pocket to the outer edge of the pedestal shall be 75 mm iii) Clear distance from the edge of the sleeve or anchor plate to the edge of pedestal shall be 75 mm.

MINIMUM HEIGHT OF PEDESTAL The minimum projection of structures shall be 300 mm finished grade / finished floor staircase / ladder shall be 150 outdoor and indoor pedestals supporting equipment / and 150 mm respectively above the highest pavement / level whichever is higher. 5.06.00

MINIMUM THICKNESS OF GROUT: The minimum thickness of grout shall be 50mm for Columns & Pedestals.

The minimum thickness of grout shall not be less than 25mm for secondary posts, stair and ladder base. For equipment base minimum thickness of grout shall be 40mm unless specified otherwise by the supplier. 6.00.00 FOUNDATION DESIGN All foundation shall be designed as per the area wise recommendation provided in the GeoTechnical report made by soil consultant engaged by MBECL and approved by DESEIN/MPPGCL. Foundation sizing shall be calculated based on reactions obtained from limit state of serviceability load criteria with respect to safe bearing capacity as mentioned in the soil report. Safe bearing capacity shall be increased by 25% under seismic & wind load combination. The design of foundation shall be carried out by Limit State collapse as per the provisions of IS456:2000. Structural concrete for foundation work shall be M-25, unless a higher grade is specified. 6.01.00 SETTELMENT CRITERIA

All foundation (Isolated/Raft/combined) shall be checked for total settlement i.e. elastic Settlement plus consolidation settlement. Foundation for transfer point shall be limited to 25 mm (Total settlement) For all other foundations shall be limited to 40 mm(total settlement) Differential settlement shall be limited to 6 mm

Equipment foundation shall be checked for differential settlement established by the equipment manufacturer and the least value shall be considered for design.

7.00.00

STRUCTURAL STEEL DESIGN a) Structural steel design will be carried out as per the National Building Code with specific consultation to IS-800 unless noted otherwise.

2x250MW Satpura Thermal Power Station unit 10&11 Steel will conform to Grade-A of IS-2062 or equivalent International Standard for Rolled steel members or plates up to 20 mm thickness. For plates above 20 mm thickness and welded construction steel conforming to Grade-B (Killed) of IS-2062 or equivalent International Standards shall be used except for crane girders where Grade-C (IS-2062) steel or equivalent International Standards shall be used.

c)

Shop connections will be all welded and field connections will generally be bolted unless specified otherwise. Field bolts, wherever provided shall be min. 20 mm dia. or more and of high tensile strength of property class 8.8 as per IS-1367 or equivalent International Standard for all major connections. The H.T. bolts shall be properly tightened to develop the required pretension during their installation. However, the nominal connections in the field like purlins, stairs, wall beams etc. will be done by 16 mm dia. M.S. black bolts or field welding conforming to IS-1363 or equivalent International Standards or field welding unless specified otherwise. All removable type connection shall be with bearing type HT bolts of Grade 8.8(min).

d)

Welding shall be in accordance with the recommendations of IS-816-code of Practice for use of metal arc welding for general construction in mild steel and IS-9595 Recommendation for Metal Arc Welding of Carbon and Carbon Manganese Steels. Built-up members will be fabricated using submerged arc welding procedure. Butt welds in plate girders and columns will be full penetration. All butt welds will be radio graphically or ultrasonically tested as per relevant IS-822 and standard practice.

Shear connection shall be designed for 75% of section strength or actual shear for rolled section and 80% of section strength or actual shear whichever is higher for built up section or rolled section with cover plates. Moment between beam and column shall be designed for 100% of moment capacity of the beam section. Connection between Top Flange and Web of crane girder shall be full penetration Butt welled and bottom flange connection shall be fillet welled. Columns shall be connected to Base plate through gusset plate and sufficient welled shall be provided for transferring the total load. All spliced detail shall be of full strength.

Fields splicing shall be generally with web/Flange cover plates. For exceptional case 50% of load transfer shall be by cover plates and remaining 50% through full penetration butt welled. Shop splicing for all section other than rolled section shall be full penetration butt welled with no cover plates. Web and flange cover plates shall be used for splicing of rolled section. j) Shop primer paint will be single coat of red oxide zinc-chromate primer conforming to IS-2074. The surface preparation will be by manual cleaning with steel wire brush or sand blasting as per the requirements of IS-1477 (part I & II).

All grating shall be electro forged type, hot dip galvanized at the rate of 610 gram / sqm. Indoor Kolkata. McNally Bharat Engineering Company Ltd, installation shall have 40 mm thick grating and outdoor installation
