We were talking about unusual events that had no natural explanation .one of the strangers among us was a little man with a pale face . He was listening carefully but did not say a word . To include him in the talk, Dabney asked him if he had any experience which had no explanation The stranger said he would tell us a true one which was stranger than stories and which had completed itself that afternoon The storyteller was living in an old house in Ormond street in London . there were patches of dampness on the walls of his bedroom .one of these patches was exactly like a human face . lying in bed he used to watch it . It did not change like other patches and he considered it as a fellow- lodger . He fell ill . As he lay in bed , he looked at that face which was that of an unusual man with unusual head and a nose with a curious turn . It controlled him in such away that it became the chief thing in his thought , day and night. When he got better he went in search of such a man in all crowded places. People and the police became suspicious .he felt that he and the man were in some way connected by fate. At last the story teller saw a man with that face in a taxi . he took another taxi to follow him . the man's taxi went to Charing cross railway station. The story teller found his man standing with two ladies and a little girl on the platform . they were going to take the train to folk stone to go to France. So the story teller took the same train then he went on board the same boat the man and his group had taken ,when the man and his group got into a private room he waited opposite their door . it was clear the man was rich. When the man got out of the room with a little girl the story teller asked him for his card to communicate with him .astonished, the man gave him his card believing he was a mad man. The man's name was Mr. Ormond Wall with an address in USA when he read the name he fainted .when he came to himself he was in a hospital and was in a serious condition for some weeks The story teller knew that the man was American millionaire with English parents who had lived in London . Yesterday morning the story teller woke up to find the face on the wall becoming very faint. He went out and read in the papers about an accident happened to an American millionaire called Mr. Ormond wall and he was in a serious condition . when he went back home he looked at the faint face. it suddenly disappeared .he knew later that Mr. Wall died at the same moment. The story teller said that there were three extraordinary things in his story-- A- the patch on the wall in London was like the face of a man in USA and disappeared when he died B- the man's name was related to the place, also the street and the wall. C- the story teller was leaving when one of the group asked him about the third thing , he said that he had made up the whole story half an hour ago.

Jack Benting and his two old friends Michael Woodward and Andy Mckewon were sitting in a hotel in Singapore. They had been of the police in Asian countries. Jack Benting believed that the ability to act quickly and to take quick decisions is the most important quality for a policeman.

Woodward didn't agree with him. Mckeown believed Benting might be right, but he himself as a member of the police seldom made quick decisions. Benting began to tell them his story which had nothing to do with crime. It happened in 1921 before he joined the Indian Police. When he finished his police college, he applied for a job. In the advertisement, a young man with a cool head was wanted for unusual work. Benting met the employer Van Lutjens, a Dutchman, in a hotel. He was one of the leading diamond merchants in Amsterdam. Van would travel to New York on board a ship called '' Berengaria, and would have two'' Rozelles'' earrings with him. The two Rozelles were two well-matched valuable diamonds that he got from a royal family. He would show them to an American group of diamond buyers in New York. Van wanted Benting to watch over the diamonds. Benting accepted the job although it sounded dull. The offer Van made was generous. It was about a year's salary in the Indian Police. The next evening, Van and Benting were ready to start the voyage. Van brought a leather case from the office of the hotel manager. The two Rozelles were inside a small box in it .Van showed him the two diamonds with their unreal pink colour. On board the ship, Van kept the leather case in the ship's safe. Benting wondered why he was paid so much money. He was just sharing Van his meals, drinks and playing cards. However, he felt Van was growing restless. The first two days were quiet. On the third day in the afternoon, Van grew more restless. Suddenly, he brought the two diamonds which he called his children. He said he couldn't help it. The diamonds had never left him from the time he had bought them four months ago. He spent many hours admiring them. Van told him the two diamonds were the greatest discovery of his life as a jeweller for fortythree years. They were perfect and were cut by the greatest diamond cutter of all times Frans Van Meulen. His stones were not for ordinary people but for royal families. Some of them were in the British crown. In spite of Benting's disapproval, Van opened the little box to have a joyful look at the stones. Benting was caring a lot for the people around them. In fact, nobody was caring for the Dutchman bending

over his little box. Van unwillingly took the case to the safe when Benting told him to do so. Benting now felt that his real job was to watch over the owner of the diamonds. On the fourth day in the morning, Van brought the leather case. There was a strong wind and the sea was rough. He went to the side of the ship and took out the little box. Before opening it, the ship gave a sudden violent roll which threw Van out of his chair. Seizing the top of the railing, he dropped the little box and it fell into the sea. Benting asked his two friends what they would have done. Woodward said he would tell the captain, but the ship would have been two miles away as it was travelling fast. Moreover, the captain would refuse to look for a little box in such a rough sea. Mckeown suggested swimming into the sea, but he would never have found the box if he had done so. Benting said that the ninety seconds they spent thinking meant that the ship would have covered about 1100 yards away from the little box. Benting completed his story. When the box fell into the water, Benting quickly threw a table and two chairs into the sea he easily persuaded the captain to go back to that spot to get back the little box. Woodward praised Bentings quick thought and believed the Dutchman paid him extra. He didnt. What really happened was that Van died of heart failure when he saw the little box going down into the sea.
