PROPOSAL REGARDING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE & UPGRADATION OF COMPUTER LAB. IN THE NSEC FOR MRC,ISLAMABAD.

National Special Education Centre for MRC was established and upgraded to National Centre of Excellence for Primary rehabilitation of mentally challenged children in 2000, Since than this institute is catering the needs of at least 250 children per annum. System of rehabilitation of mentally challenged students in public sector was started in 1982 when phase I centre for such children was started in a rented building and further one more Centre was established in 1984. Both Centers of Primary rehabilitation were merged in 2000 to establish this National Centre of Excellence. Mental retardation is unique and diverse field of research, study and rehabilitation and we need to upgrade it from time to time, our department has a system of internal training and continuous education through National Institute of Special Education or NISE, which keeps our teachers and professional abreast with current trends and knowledge in the fields of rehabilitation and Special education. MRC has a team of qualified professional who assess the children aspiring for admission in MRC, the team comprises of Social Case Worker, Medical Officer, Occupational therapist and Senior teachers, they assess, advise and decide for admission of the children and train the needy with Home based Programs and re-evaluate the child accordingly. In institute we give facilities of Speech therapy, Occupational Therapy and Parental guidance and family counseling beside rehabilitation and Education to Educable MRs and Sports to all inmates, Medical treatment for emergencies and day to day Medical ailments. We have a computer lab with 06 complete units of P-IV PCs, along with LCD monitors, exclusively for the use of students; they regularly attend the sessions in Computer lab.

Our requirement is: 1. Technical Assistance : y We need an instructor well versed in Use of Information Technology,
Knowledge of and interest in Mental retardation, who can teach students & Train Teachers to use various software to help in rehabilitation and education of MR students.

Todays age is computer age and every walk of life has a positive use of information technology and we need to know the use of computers in Mental retardation and rehabilitation process.

2. Expansion of Computer Lab.

y We have a well settled computer lab with complete sets of 06PCs and accessories at present with LCD monitors. y Lab can be expanded with at least four (06) more PCs to make it 10 along with all accessories.

II. SETTING AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY UNIT IN NSEC FOR MRC:

NSEC for MRC has an Occupational therapist with wide experience in this very important field, we need to settle an occupational therapy unit in NSEC for MRC. y Every MR student needs the proper guidance and consultation of occupational therapist hence its mandatory to settle a standard Occupational therapy. y Setting an Occupational Therapy unit will enhance not only status of this institute but also stream line the process of rehabilitation. B.

III . TECHNICAL ASSITANCE AND GRANT

FORSPORTS MEDICINE & REQUIREMENTS FOR SPORTS MEDICINE: y We have a gymnasium in MRC for sports & physical rehabilitation but it needs to upgrade to start proper rehabilitation. y We need technical assistance in the field of Sports medicine , Medical Coding and modern techniques of Sports rehabilitation & Prevention of sports related injuries in Disabled children, specially Mentally retarded children. y Requirements I. II. Our requirement is an Instructor well trained in above mentioned aspects of Sports medicine & Sports rehabilitation. Table C.

UPGRADATION OF MEDICAL FACILITY FOR MR CHILDREN IN NSEC FOR MRC. y NSEC for MRC has a qualified Medical doctor to asses in classifying medical conditions, treatments and diagnosis of various emergency and day to day ailments od children in School and help guide families in management of MR children and give counseling and support to affected families. y We need technical assistance to Dr. regarding help in the field of Sports medicine & injury prevention in this field of mental retardation & Sports medicine. y To upgrade existing medical facility in NSEC for MRC we need following help in the shape of grants. V.

UPGRADATION OF PLAYING AREA AND AGROTHERAPY UNITS. y NSEC for MRC has a small playing area in the purpose built building which remains in our use , that area is used for play and development of fine and coarse motor activities of the school children. y Currently that field needs up gradation of facilities of international standards so that it should be used for proper rehabilitation. y A separate corner can be ear marked for agro therapy and it can help build motor skills in children beside installation of various playing instruments like, slides, bars and circles or marry go rounds to help children play and develop motor and fine motor skills through play. y It will be a great help to upgrade and install playing instruments for children in Play ground of the school and develop a small Agro therapy unit in NSEC for MRC, Islamabad.
