As with all things sage and fine, it takes time to shape greatness.

That rule can easily be tested for validity in so many areas of both the human & natural realm. This is not a new principle. However, there are those in the music industry that might argue that with the progression of time comes a distance from newness, innovative technology, radical mindsets and relevance to the culture of music. We are pleased to announce that this is NOT the case at all. In fact, both our current feature DJ and myself, Fetty Be, are living testimonies to this falsehood. One might presume that after working in multiple facets of the DJ community for over 25 years from radio, to private functions, to club venues, that the risk of becoming outdated exists. DJ David Foley is an artist who truly undoes this myth. In fact, Foley has spent a good portion of his life time sitting on the leading edge of music innovation in the club scene and according to his biography, its very obvious that he has never allowed himself or his vibe to grow dull.

I started out in Radio (WBCN) spinning New Wave, Alternative and Goth music. Bauhaus, The Cure, Depeche Mode and New Order were big early influences. As I got into Dance Music, Fingers Inc and A Guy Called Gerald were pretty importantMy first love is House. I love to play long sets of house starting with Deep and moving through to Progressive.I started spinning Acid House in the 80' and progressed into Techno in the early 90's and Trance. When I moved to San Francisco I fell in love with the House scene here. (Cited from DJ Foleys Buzz Exclusive DJ Survey, 2011)

Perhaps it is Davids other deep passion for technology that has concurrently driven him to stay abreast of new technological developments and trends within the club world. Foley is an entrepreneur with an extensive background in software and hardware development. He has designed and patented several award winning games and innovative technology in the past 20 years. (Cited from David Foleys Entrepreneurial Bio)

Yet, what strikes us most about Foleys responses in his Buzz Exclusive DJ Survey and his biography, is that the key ingredient that might be responsible for his ability to keep renewing himself and his relevance in the industry, is a very deep underlying current of passion for music that fuels an endless hunger for this creative outlet. Foley, does have other identities such as CEO, colleague, husband and father. Yet, when he is behind the decks, he is 100% DJ Foley and his mission is a personal one. He appears self-challenged at every gig to ensure that he takes his floor to that E-spot and doesnt let up until the House lights are at full power. Davids consistency and focus upon pleasing all parties involved in the staging of an off-the-hook event, is another aspect that we feel has led him to be one of San Franciscos longest performing and successful DJ/artists in the nightlife community. With dreams and aspirations still on the horizon for his music career, there are still unchartered waters for DJ Foley to navigate and gigs to still land such as Global Gathering with Deadmau5 (cited from DJ Foleys Buzz DJ Survey Response)!!

Yet, he has masterfully worked through the industry over the years in such a way that he has been exposed to countless power houses i.e. Judge Jules and leaders in the nightlife realm that have truly influenced his personal style. He has graced the stage of Ruby Skye many times and knows the systems in that club intimately. San Franciscos Ruby Skye is an internationally recognized House club, whose artists are respected for their legitimate mastery of the genre! DJ Foley has more than demonstrated his commitment to his craft and with locations such as: London, England; Boston; Chicago; Miami; Orland; Las Vegas; Reno; Seattle; Portland; Phoenix; Ibiza; Amsterdam; San Jose; San Francisco; Los Angeles and currently a resident at Ruby Skye & Slide in San Franciscolisted on his resume, its no surprise that he is wellrespected in the DJ community. In addition to the hard facts about Foley, we feel that one of Davids endearing qualities as an artist is his humble, personal, down-to-earth nature. David is a mature DJ who doesnt need to prove himself and he doesnt need to jump on the self-marketing hype wagon. Hes done all of that and is now comfortable with his image and reputation that he has established. He can now enjoy the fruits of his labor and savor a passion that has turned into a lifelong love affairwith his music!!

Every DJ at one point or another wonders for how long will I be able to maintain this hobby, this passion, this addiction, this career, this commitment and remain current? Just as with any recording artist in the music world, it is only the few select that possess a deep enough connection and vision in their medium, to continue on with their artwork until the very end. So long as the bass line is jumping and the trance is flowing forth, DJ Foley WILL continue we feel, to share his talent and love of House music world wide. There will always be another House music anthem around the corner to discover and the fever to find that golden music will never let go of one of San Franciscos finest DJsDAVID FOLEY!!

DJ DAVID FOLEYS BUZZ SURVEY RESPONSES!

1. What inspired you to pick your DJ your name?

My name is pretty uninspired by today's standards. Foley is my last name. I got lucky in that Foley Artists are the people responsible for making sounds in the movies. I had originally used DJ Foley Effect, but early on I was working in Radio and the station manager kept calling me DJ Foley on the promotions, and it stuck.

2. What kind of music do you like to spin?

I love playing to a receptive crowd. My first love is House. I love to play long sets of house starting with Deep and moving through to Progressive. I started spinning Acid House in the 80' and progressed into Techno in the early 90's and Trance. When I moved to San Francisco I feel in love with the House scene here. I like big bass lines. I love funky arrangements. If it makes me want to jump out of my seat I like to mix it.

3. What and who are some of your major influences (artists, DJs, etc.)? I started out in Radio spinning New Wave, Alternative and Goth music. Bauhaus, The Cure, Depeche Mode and New Order were big early influences. As I got into Dance Music, Fingers Inc and A Guy Called Gerald were pretty important. Early on, DJ Bradley J taught me all about mixing. During my career I've had a lot of influence from many UK DJ's including Judge Jules and Ben Watt.

4. Biggest reward about being a DJ?

The feedback from a crowd when they are grooving to your music.

5. Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?

People that feel like you are nothing more than a jukebox. I don't mind requests, and if I have the song and it fits in my set I'm happy to play it, but it's a request, not a demand. If I don't have it, or it doesn't fit don't get pissed off at me for not playing it. The worst is when someone keeps pestering me to play a song when it just won't work, or better yet when someone requests a song that I just played. I've even had someone request a song while it was on the deck playing into the club.

6. What is the best party you have ever spun at?

Manumission in Ibiza.

7. If you could mix at a club or party anywhere, where would it be and with whom?

Global Gathering with Deadmau5

8. In what cities have you spun? Are you a resident DJ at any clubs right now?

London, England; Boston; Chicago; Miami; Orland; Las Vegas; Reno; Seattle;

Portland; Phoenix; Ibiza; Amsterdam; San Jose; San Francisco; Los Angeles; Currently Resident at Ruby Skye & Slide in San Francisco.

9. What is the hottest club you have ever been to, either as a DJ or a patron?

Privlege in Ibiza. There is nothing better than being in a 5 story club, standing in a DJ booth on top of a swimming pool.

10. Do you plan out your sets or do you play to the crowd's reactions?

Both. I always try and plan out my music ahead of time so that i have a theme and a mood for the night. Of course, I rarely stick to the plan completely as you have to read the crowd and lean towards wherever the collective mood takes us. It's sort of a give and take relationship where I'm suggesting where we are going on the trip, but the crowd helps guide us through the night.

11. If you could design a club, name three important aspects of it's layout.

Good acoustics in really important, but that can be engineered if the space

doesn't naturally accommodate it. Multiple stories. Multiple Areas to dance to the main DJ. Easy access to the bar so you don't have to wait long to get a drink.

12. Techno/Trance or Mash-up/Hip Hop

Trance/Mash-up

13. East Coast or West Coast? West Coast Baby.

14. MAC or PC?

PC, why pay more?

15. Top favorite 3 tracks of all time. Insomnia Faithless Show Me Love Robin S Plastic Dreams Jaydee
