FUEL-TO-STEAM EFFICIENCY TABLES

Model CB Boilers
Model CB Boilers with the Low Emission Option (CB-LE)
1. The boiler proposal must include a Statement
of Guaranteed Fuel-to-Steam Efficiency at
25, 50, 75, and 100% of rating on each fuel to
be burned.
2. This Statement must be proven, and job site
test data submitted to the Contractor, Engineer,
and Ultimate Owner on the basis of a Stack
Temperature - O2 Test conducted at the Boiler
Suppliers Expense at time of Original Boiler
Start-up.
For every full 1.0% Efficiency Point less
than that claimed in the original Statement
of Guarantee, a $5000.00 per full point fee
will be rebated by the Boiler Supplier to the
Ultimate Owner.
3. The original Guaranteed Fuel-to-Steam Efficiency Statement will be considered during
bid evaluation by the Contractor, Engineer, or
Owner. The unit with the highest Efficiency will
be considered and evaluated even though it
may not be the Lowest Bid Price.

NOTES:
1. Efficiencies Based on the Following Fuel
Analysis
Natural Gas:

Carbon, % (wt) = 69.98

Hydrogen, % (wt) = 22.31

Sulfur, % (wt) = 0.0

Heating Value, Btu/lb = 21,830
No. 2 Oil:

Carbon, % (wt) = 85.8

Hydrogen, % (wt) =12.7

Sulfur, % (wt) = 0.2

Heating Value, Btu/lb = 19,420
No. 6 Oil:

Carbon, % (wt) = 86.6

Hydrogen, % (wt) = 10.9

Sulfur, % (wt) = 2.09

Heating Value, Btu/lb = 18,830

2. Efficiencies based on ambient air temperature of 80 F, relative humidity of 30%, and

15% excess air in the exhaust. The above
efficiency tables do not apply to Ultra Low
NOx burners, which operate at 25% excess
air.
3. Efficiencies include radiation and convection losses as indicated in Cleaver-Brooks
Boiler Efficiency Facts Guide (Publication
CB-7767).
4. Any efficiency verification testing will be
based on the stack loss method.

Operating Pressure

The operating conditions must be determined after

the boiler has operated for a sufficient time to establish thermal equilibrium.
The guaranteed fuel-to-steam efficiencies are based
on the reference conditions as stated on page 3. If
test conditions are other than as stated, the fuel-tosteam efficiency must be adjusted accordingly.
*Firing rate used to determine Radiation factor. Radiation factors for Cleaver-Brooks boilers are indicated in
Table 1 of the Boiler Efficiency Facts Guide (Publication CB-7767).

Guaranteed efficiencies are based on testing by the

Heat Loss Method. To calculate the efficiency using
this method, the following boiler operating parameters
and ambient conditions must be determined:
