For the past forty years, YHAI has been successfully organising exciting adventure tours across the country. Real adventures, real people, real savings that is the idea behind our tours that span the peaks of the mighty Himalayas, the arid regions of Thar Desert, the dense forests of the Vindhyas, and the pristine beauty of the beaches of Goa. These tours are not only a source of joy and thrill to participants, but also provide a valuable opportunity for them to test their abilities and skills in challenging, and sometimes, treacherous environs. YHAI adventure programmes kick-started in 1970 with an initial participation of about 200 people. In 2009, more than 7000 members participated in the programmes over a period of six weeks from April to May and another 4000 during the rest of the year. Most of the flagship adventure programmes are organised in the Himalayas in the Kullu Manali region of the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. These tours include National Himalayan Trekking Expeditions (NHTE) Sar Pass, Saurkundi Pass, Nature Study Dobhi, Nature Study Dalhousie, Mountain Biking Jalori Pass, and Family Camping at Seobagh, Kullu. These SUMMER PROGRAMMES -2009 and UP state employees for participating in YHAI Trekking Expeditions. Overview of Summer Programmes 2009 1. Of the 269 people who participated in the Har-ki-Doon trek, 123 had to be diverted towards Sar Pass and Saurkundi Pass route. The refund cheques were dispatched to 146 participants. 2. This year, YHAI provided foam mattresses and new bed sheets in the family camping sites. 3. In a tragic turn of events, two women participants from Mumbai lost their lives to adverse weather conditions in the Sar Pass area. We extend our heartfelt condolences to their bereaved families. 4. Another unfortunate incident took place at Saurkundi Pass route when a group of participants misbehaved with the guide and participants registered for the National Himalayan Trekking Expedition-2009, out of which 550 people participated in the programme. YHAI received a sum of

Rs.139.47 lacs as participation fee (excluding Har-ki-Doon). Total expenses for the programme were Rs.80.06 lacs. In addition, we also received Rs.45000.00 from the sale of left over articles and closing stock. The net surplus was approximately Rs.60.12 lacs, subject to finalisation of accounts
