ANNUAL REPORT

2010-2011

Following the footsteps of St. Julie Billiart and the blessings of Mary our Mother, Notre dame School, Vettikuzhy is imparting holistic education for the younger generations to face the challenges of tomorrow. Right from the beginning of this year 2010-2011 we have taken varied steps to make a journey in the path of acquiring true knowledge and sharpening the whole personality with academic excellence and co- curricular activities. We started the academic year 2010-2011 on May 30th with the orientation session for the teachers based on effective teaching methods and class room management. As a growing school Notre dame consists of committed, hard working and relentless 18 lay teachers, 5 sisters and 2 supporting staff. The teachers are our gateways to the success of Notre Dame, Vettikuzhy. Teachers have become the sharers and partners in discovering the true abilities of each individual and imparting the finer aspects of life. The golden doors of learning were once again re- opened on June 2nd, 2010 for its tenth academic year 2010-2011. The strength of the school is 535. Beginning of the first semester witnessed the installation of an industrious and an ever enthusiastic Student Council. The first Student council is led by Mintu regi Sunny, the president, a student of class 8 along with other main leaders and group leaders. As per the innovation of the CBSE, the school implemented Continuous Comprehensive evaluation pattern for the classes 1-8. To implement the above the teachers were given ample opportunities to attend number of seminars and also the school management arranged a special orientation and introduction to the above. The CCE patten consists of four formative assessments and two summative assessments which are to be conducted in two semesters.

Our lives are on a market trip on earth, whether we fill our basket or not, once the time is up, we go home. It was the time of our dear Dereena Davis the student

of Class 1 to reach the Lords home on August 12th, 2010. On this earth though she had not started to fill her basket the Lord called her to His heavenly city. It is the first death of our Notre dame Student, Vattikuzhy. On August 7th she met with an accident when she went with her parents to Angamaly to attend a wedding ceremony. It was shocking news for all. The school paid respect to her soul by conducting a meaningful prayer service and forty days of mourning. The person, who is born with a talent which he is meant to use, finds his greatest happiness in using it. To bring out the various talents of our students the school began the music classes on Saturdays. Nearly fifty students have joined to bring out their talents in keyboard, guitar and tabla. Art is the orientation to creativity and learning. An exhibition of all the projects, models prepared by the students of classes 6, 7, and 8 were displayed this year. The exhibition was a blissful blend of art, science and literature truly focusing the light of wisdom. The projects and models were given to the children as we introduced the CCE which brought out the talents and creativity of our growing students. Without purpose, life is motion without meaning, activity without direction, and events without reason. Without a purpose life is trivial, petty and pointless. Therefore to bring out this purpose of life in our students and to have confidence in themselves the regular activities of the school were under taken. Health is wealth. In preparation for the inspection from the CBSE board two medical camps were held for all the students from Std.1 to 8. A team of doctors, nurses and helpers from jubilee mission hospital, Thrissur assured the health of our students. Notre Dame School, Vettikuzhy is blooming into a beautiful flower and has also spread its fragrance to all the inaccessible nooks and corners of this area. This has been very effective only because of the first P.T.A executive committee who are very co-operative, ready to initiate and willing to plunge into new things. They have been the pillars, supporting and planning, extending their help at all times. A wide array of extra- curricular activities is an essential component of a quality education system. Active participation in such activities promotes an over all development of the students. It is worthwhile to notice our students who are awarded in national level millennium exam, PCM scholarship exam and Ashika hand writing competition.

Every day passed out with significance and every minute devoted for the up liftment of our children. I now wind up this report with contentment and gratitude. I sincerely acknowledge the trust and confidence of the parents, teachers and well wishers on this institution. As I conclude I bow to my creator who could do all things with unfailing love. May Notre Dame continue to grow in greater excellence by echoing the grateful words, The mighty has done great things for us and holy be His name.
