The Tablet PC is a device based on a touch-screen display (typically with a multi-touch interface) whose primary focus is the consumption of media, content and now business applications. The devices have screens with a diagonal dimension that is over 7 inches and may include screens that are as large as is practical for handheld use, roughly up to 10 inches. The Tablet PC runs a lightweight OS such as Android and iOS that is more limited than, or a subset of, the traditional fully featured OS such as Windows. XXXXXX is currently the market leader with 38.3 percent market share. Sales of Tablet PCs, though still small, are growing rapidly. Since Olivepad, the countrys first Tablet PC arrived in July 2010, a host of rivals have appeared, such as Apples iPad, RIMs Playbook, Samsungs Galaxy Tab, Datawinds Aakash, Sonys Tablet and many more. India Tablet PC market is a very price competitive market. Despite this, XXXXXX has been able to grab a major share in the market. XXXX and Reliance are also strong contenders in this race. Very recently India became the first country to launch the worlds cheapest Tablet PC named Aakash manufactured by Datawind in collaboration with IIT Rajasthan. This has led to a fall in the average selling price of Tablet PC which is further expected to fall. The average selling price at global level was US$ XXXX but it was US$ XXXX in India in 2011. Many players are still struggling to enter the Indian Tablet PC market. The Tablet PC market is majorly a brand oriented and not a product oriented market. The popularity of Samsung in the Smartphone and Tablet PC market proves Samsungs brand power. However, with the passage of time a change in this attitude is also expected, as more and more customer will be driven towards the product specifications rather than brand power.
