India-Japan Global Partnership was announced in year 2000, by the then Indian Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Shri Mori Yoshiro the Japanese Prime Minister, on his historical visit to India.

The Summit will host a series of workshops, seminars, cultural events and high level people-to -people interactions, with active participation from Government, the business community, academia, and civil society. Announcing the forthcoming summit, H.E. Yukio Hatoyama said IndiaJapan share a global vision of peace, stability and sustainable development. It is important to manifest these values in action on a global platform. He also stressed on the need to take the bilateral relations beyond the official engagements and enlarge it by bringing the two societies closer.

"Today is a very important day for both India and Japan as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was signed between Minister Sharma and the Minister Maehara.
