March for Life Reflection Our Trip to Washington D.C. By: Dottie Spires Jan 22nd-23rd, 2012 Sunday, January 22nd in the pre-dawn hours, Holly Jo Monnier & Baby Monnier and myself Dottie Spires, got on a bus bound for Washington D.C., the Capitol of our country and home of the President of the United States. And also the site of the now famous March for Life. I am always amazed at how many busses roll into Washington D.C. and from other capitols all over the country. We are still strong in numbers and committed to saving the lives of the unborn. We are never going to go away. After 39 years, the fervor is still there and the weather is never a factor. This year wasnt as cold as some in my memory and we accepted the rainy weather for the march and fortunately it let up. We had a purpose and a job to do and we were going to succeed. We did not march past the White House as planned. Well over 400,000 people marching down Constitution Ave. to the Supreme Court building was a site to see. We sang, prayed, chanted and held our enthusiasm to the end. I was strengthened by the Mass held at the beautiful Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. So many young people from Parishes all over the country were there. It was very encouraging. They came to pray & worship and participate in the Rally and March. Some 10,000 members crowded into every square of the Church. We arrived at 3:30PM and got the last seats for Mass scheduled at 6:30PM. The hour long procession of priests and concelebrants was thrilling to see. Pope Benedict XVI sent an Emissary from the Vatican. His message was very uplifting and encouraged us to never give up. God would surely bless us for trying to save the lives of His unborn children. Holly Jo and I had the distinction of representing Our Lady of Victory Church and were privileged to pray for Father Romano and all members of our Church. Holly Jo was the only pregnant member and I was the oldest on our bus. We each kept a watchful eye on the other. We truly felt our presence was a testimony to our firm belief that life starts at conception and should be protected. Next year we hope to send our own busload and have a good time with our young people from Our Lady of Victory. Our Heavenly Mother will surely go with us! God bless. Dottie
