Introduction
Cisco IP Phone users can block or mask caller ID displays for calls from a particular phone. The display of caller ID information for outgoing calls from a particular phone or gateway can be blocked or masked on a percall basis, which allows users to maintain their privacy when necessary. This document describes how to block or hide the caller ID or transform the caller ID for the outgoing calls on Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5.x and 6.x.
Prerequisites
Requirements
Cisco recommends that you have knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration.
Components Used
The information in this document is based on Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5.x and 6.x. The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.
Conventions
Refer to the Cisco Technical Tips Conventions for more information on document conventions.
Configure
Cisco Unified Communications Manager provides flexible configuration options to allow and to restrict the display of the directory number and name information for both calling and called or connected parties. Calling ID or called party display/hide/transform feature can be configured through the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration from any one these locations: Directory Number Configuration Page Route Pattern Configuration Page Route List Detail Configuration Page Gateway Configuration Page
You can enter a maximum of 24 numbers and X characters. The Xs represent the directory number and must appear at the end of the pattern. For example, if you specify a mask of 975767XXXX, an external call from extension 1234 displays a caller ID number of 9757671234. This value applies only to the current device unless you check the Update Shared Device Settings check box located to the right of the field and then click Propagate Selected. (The Update Shared Device Settings check box displays only if other devices share this directory number.)
4. Click Save in order to save the changes, and then click Reset in order to apply the changes to this phone. Note: Repeat the same procedure for all available phones and their respective directory numbers. Refer to the Directory Number Configuration section of the Cisco Unified Communications Manager System Guide for more information.
4. Click Save in order to save your changes. Refer to the Understanding Route Plans section of the Cisco Unified Communications Manager System Guide for more information.
4. Enter the appropriate value in the Use Calling Party's External Phone Number Mask field. If you enter On, the number that you configured in the Directory Number Configuration page is used as the caller ID. If you enter Off, you must configure the Calling Party Transform Mask field for the caller ID. 5. Click Save in order to save your changes. Refer to the Route List Configuration section of the Cisco Unified Communications Manager System Guide for more information.
6. Click Save in order to save the changes to CallManager, and then click Reset in order to reset the gateway for the changes to take effect. Complete these steps in order to hide or block the calling party ID that appears on the called party phone: 1. Choose Device > Gateway. The Find and List Gateway page appears.
2. Select the PRI that you use for outgoing calls from the list of records that display. 3. Scroll down to the Call Routing Information Outbound Calls section of the Gateway Configuration page. 4. Choose Restricted from the Calling Party Presentation dropdown list. The Restricted option is used to block the display of the calling party number or name.
5. Click Save in order to save your changes to CallManager, and click Reset in order to reset the gateway to take effect the changes. This configuration hides the calling ID that appears on the called party phone. On the called ID side, calling ID appears as the text Private Number, instead of the calling number. The user on the called side is unable to see the calling number. Refer to the Gateway Configuration section of the Cisco Unified Communications Manager System Guide for more information.
Verify
Here are a few things to remember in order to verify that your configuration works properly: If the Calling Party Presentation field is set to Allowed in the gateway configuration, the transformation of digits occur. For example, if a user from the extension 3000 calls a remote location user, that remote user can see the calling number as 9788583000. If the Calling Party Presentation field is set to Restricted in the gateway configuration, the CallManager hides the calling number while the user makes calls to outside. For example, if a user from the extension 3000 calls a remote location user, that remote user sees Private number only. The remove user is unable to see the calling number.
