Verifying the firmware on your printer...

Additional instruction for customers relating to Compatible Samsung ML-1640 cartridge Samsung released an upgrade firmware (version 1.xx.00.83) for ML-1640 printers in the official website at the end of 2009. The current compatible ML-1640 cartridge cannot work in printers upgraded with this version of firmware. If your customers would like to keep the option of using a compatible cartridge, they are suggested NOT TO upgrade their printers with this new firmware. If you are not sure whether the printer has been upgraded, you can check the OS Version number by printing the demo page. After upgrade, the last 2 digits of the number on demo page are 93. Please refer to the samples below.

If the printer has been upgraded or it is already using the latest version of firmware (i.e. showing 93 in the last 2 digits of the OS Version number), our compatible Samsung ML-1640 cartridge will not work in the printer due to chip incompatibility. To use the compatible cartridge in a firmware-upgraded ML-1640 printer, you can use the chip from your used original Samsung ML-1640 cartridge to replace the chip of the compatible cartridge, as explained in the next page of this document...

How to transfer the OEM chip of ML1640 cartridge to a compatible Inkrite ML 1640
Part A Step 1 - Remove the two screws on the original cartridge as shown in figure 1. Step 2 - Pry the end plate away from the cartridge with the help of a screw driver or strong metal tool, being careful not to damage the toner. Step 3 - Now you must remove the cover shown in Figure 3... The use of a screw driver or metal tool will also be useful here. Step 4 - You must now remove the chip from the uncovered plate for installing onto your compatible cartridge. Be very careful as to not damage any of the contacts on the chip, or seat it somewhere that would possibly corrupt the data. Part B To transfer the now parted OEM chip you must follow steps 1-4, finishing by installing the chip onto the compatible then affixing the cover and end plate. (The above may not need repeated if the chip is already visible on the compatible cartridge)
Please Note: 1. You can only use the a chip from an OEM cartridge that has been used for one cycle. If the chip has been in a cartridge that has been refilled or used more than once then it is not suitable for this procedure. 2. Once the chip is transferred and the cartridge is installed into the printer you may get either a red or green flashing LED on the printer. Ignore this flashing and continue to print as you normally would. 3. For best results the OEM chip should only be used once in a compatible cartridge.
