Anna Hazare

Why should we fight? The funds in government treasuries are ours. The treasuries are not threatened by thieves but by those who guard it. The country is not betrayed by enemies but by these traitors. -Anna Hazare

It`s truly said that the fate of the country changes when a crusader arrives. It starts from Carl Marx, Fidel Castro, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and for new generation it is Anna Hazare. It` s not easy to march a country of over billion population under a single banner for a common motto but with his vigorous will and determination he had experienced great success and eventually became a blue-eyed boy of commoner. Anna Hazare, a renowned social worker who is credited for uplifting his traditional village Ralegaon Siddhi from various malpractices and innovating Maharstra govt. Policies, he come to picture frame when he successfully implemented Right to Information Act into our constitution. That was a revolutionary move as anybody can query about government institutions working credentials and functioning. His recent movement was India against Corruption and those targets to curb social-institutional problem of widespread corruption in India. With prominent figures like Kiran Bedi, ex I.P.S., Arvind kejriwal, I.R.S., Prashant Bhushan and others they uproared this movement under the banner of Civil Society. Later on this movement have gained support from Swami Ramdev, yoga guru, and Swami Agnivesh, a spiritual leader. This movement have the goal of inclusion of Lokpal which is a legislation being pending since 1950 in Rajya Sabha. Anna Hazare and his team came out with its own version of Lokpal Bill known as Jan Lokpal and demanded its implementation and substitution in place of Original Lokpal. Lokpal also known as Ombudsman is known to curb corruption in many European Countries like Sweden, Iceland and Bulgaria. This movement was dragged into controversy as it demands a monolithic institution similar to three absolute pillar of democracy, i.e., Judiciary, Parliamentary, and Military. The Lokpal is also said to be accept grievances from any commoner and then act on it but that was not feasible citing India`s population and its capacity to draw large no of petitions. Further it will jeopardy major institution such as Supreme Court, Election Commission, and even the prestigious post of President as established by the original independent monolithic institution by our constitution. Further it was absurd to assume its implementation as major Law Governing Institutes refused to come under it such as RA&W, IB, CBI, MI, etc. Thus summing up all I want to iterate that every topic has got its pros and cons and so this Anna Hazare work is too flipped under both sides of coin. And I may

conclude with saying that Ombudsman needs to be implemented to curb corruption in India but under constitution of India not as a monolithic institution.
