# pkgadd -d . SUNWlomu - if LOM is not already installed #pkgadd -d . SUNWlomm - to add MAN pages for LOM

Using the LOM Commands At the lom> prompt, type: lom>poweron <POST messages displayed here . . . > ... ... ok lom>poweroff

Setting the LOM Shell passwd lom>password Enter new password: Enter new password again: lom>resetsc Are you sure you want to reboot the system controller now? [no] y

Setting up the network in the LOM lom>setupnetwork ( to setup network configuration of hostname, ip address, subnet, whether or not ip is static /DHCP, DNS server ( primary & secondary)

Navigating from Solaris, OBP & LOM

Escape sequence from Solaris & the OBP (ok>) is #. And to get back from the LOM to Solaris is :lom>console If the connection was established using a tip command then type the tip exit sequence ~.: lom>break This will suspend Solaris OS It will ask you if you want to continue [no] y (no is default option) ok lom>logout

Using a serial port to access the system controller from the serial port #tip hardwire or use #tip 9600 /dev/term/a ( change /dev/term/b to /dev/term/a) in /etc/remote or use #telnet <SC-hostname or IP address> LOM Command Syntax lom [-c] [-l] [-f] [-v] [-t] [-a] [-G] [-X] lom -e <n>, [x] lom -A on|off <n> lom -E on|off where: -c displays LOM configuration. -l displays the status of the Fault and Alarms LEDs. -e displays the event log. -f displays fan status. ( displayed in prtdiag v) -v displays the status of the voltage sensors. ( displayed in prtdiag v)

System Faults

Once you have logged into the lom> then you can check all the PSUs, fans, SBs & IBs using showboards and showcomponent commands Do not run the poweron command, this will run the POST and boot the system. Use the poweron all command which will put the system in standby whilst you check the above state of *board & component lom>showboards ( shows components of all devices or use) lom> showboards /N0/SB0 (particular device) lom> showcomponent /N0/IB6 (particular device) Other LOM commands lom>showdate lom>setdate -t GMT+1 lom>setdate 040612352008 (Solaris style date setting) (additionally to make sure you get to the ok> from the lom> use:lom> bootmode skipdiag forth (this will ensure auto-boot? true (is ignored) lom>showlocator and setlocator

Monitoring Solaris from the LOM shell Lom shell command showalarm Solaris equivalent #lom l

Level 4 is not used, use Level 3 or lom> lom E off (this will not stop getting errors sent to /var/adm/messages*

Is a flashupdate required??? lom> showboards p version lom>showsc v To upgrade the firmware this can be either done from the lom shell or using the solaris environment

lom> flashupdate <with specific options> or lom> lom G <options> Latest firmware patches can be found in the usual place:www.sunsolve.sun.com The latest Hardware/PROM: 5.20.8 (114527-09) as of February 2008 this is relevant for Sun FireE6900/E4900/E2900/6800/4800/4810/3800/V1280 Netra 1280 and Netra 1290 Systems (ScApp:5.20.8, RTOS:47, SC POST:47) Essential you read the install.info prior to SC firmware update, upgrade in two steps:Ensuring prior to this that you have a FTP server setup to flash from with the desired patch or firmware level lom> flashupdate f <URL> rtos scapp lom> flashupdate f <URL> systemboards Please be aware in earlier versions of the firmware update 5.13.x the flashupdate has no knowledge of lw8cpu.flash & lwpci.flash, flashupdate f <URL> all will install sgcpu.flash & sgpci.flash on V1280 system boards rendering them as

PURPLE PAPER WEIGHTS

to recover you must downgrade to 5.13.0015 in two steps; lom> flashupdate f <URL> rtos scapp lom> flashupdate f <URL> systemboards A working example of the flashupdate from the lom would be something like this:lom> flashupdate f ftp://ftp_server_name_or_ip/pub/patchid rtos scapp following and answering the questions appropriately (SC will reboot) lom> flashupdate f ftp://ftp_server_name_or_ip/pub/patchid systemboards lom> showboards p version (should show everything updated) Updating from Solaris using lom G #prtconf V

5.x.x

(shows OBP version)

# < ----- Type escape sequence e.g. # . (to see what this is in Solaris use #lom c | grep escape (this shows the escape sequence) lom> showescape escape sequence probably #. lom> setescape *** whatever escape sequence you want Both the RTOS and ScApp needs to be updated before rebooting.

(Do not reset the SC between updating sgsc.flash and sgrtos.flash this

is

imperative!!!!!
Prior to starting, reset the SC from the console. This places the SC in a known state prior to the upgrade so you know where you are:lom> resetsc y #lom -G sgrtos.flash #lom -G sgsc.flash Escape to lom & reset the SC lom> resetsc -y Upgrade the firmware on the systemboards #lom -G lw8cpu.flash #lom -G lw8pci.flash # init 5 lom> poweroff lom> poweron END EX, BISH, BASH, BOSH TEA BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
