1 Erase Your Sins: As humans we all commit sins no matter how hard we try to avoid them because we were

created to be imperfect. Engaging in evil deeds decreases our Iman. Actions like lying, cheating and stealing, to name only a few, take a toll on the human heart and soul which makes us more susceptible to being lead astray from the Path of Allah. It is important for us to reflect upon our deeds and weed out the ones that are contrary to the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (S). Allah has gifted us with a natural sense of justice and the ability to reason and make sound judgements. Our fitrah (natural disposition) necessitates that we all know when we are committing a sin. And if we don't know, we certainly have a lot of resources to find out from! That Allah (swt) has forgiven our sins? How do we achieve this? Obviously, the answer to this question comes from Allah (swt) Himself. Allah (swt) tells us how to become sinless. Muhammad, Sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, showed by action how to erase our sins. This can be done by tawbah or repentance. The word tawbah (repentance) in Arabic literally means 'to return'. In the religious context, it refers to the act of leaving what Allah (swt) has prohibited and returning to what He has permitted. In Surah Al-Maidah, Allah(swt)said:

Faman -taaba mim-ba'-di zulmihii wa 'aslaha fa-'innallaaha yatuubu 'alayhi, 'innallaaha Gafuurur-Rahim. But whoever (i) turns after his wrongdoing and (ii) amends, then surely Allah turns to him. Allah is truly most Forgiving, most Rewarding. (5:39) If we analyze this ayah, then we find there are only two criteria: if we have committed any wrongdoing, we should turn, i.e. make tawbah we should amend ourselves from doing such sins, i.e. we should never commit such sins again. This may also involve some extra work or charity, as the case may be.

If we continue reading this ayah, we see that Allah (swt) guarantees that He will return to people making tawbah. Let's pay some attention to the sentence construction. Allah (swt) is insisting that He is most Forgiving - He said 'innallaaha Gafuur. Then He adds that He is not only Gafuur, but also most Rewarding, Rahim. Do we really need any more assurance? Conditions for the acceptance of repentance: The word tauba which is rendered as repentance in English, is not a simple term as most people believe. It is very rich in meaning and implication, and is not simply a word of mouth after which the sinner continues in his sins. Says Allah, Glorified be He: "Seek forgiveness of your Lord and then turn to Him in repentance." (Hud: 3). Do you notice how turning to the Lord in repentance has been added to the search for His forgiveness? It is quite in keeping with its importance, therefore, that repentance should have, as the scholars have stated, conditions attached to it for its acceptance. They are as follows: * First: Giving up of the sin itself. * Second: Remorse over what has been committed. * Third: A resolve not to repeat it, and, * Fourth: Compensating those who have been wronged or obtaining their forgiveness. However, if you fall prey to sin again, do not give up fighting back with it.
