The car which blew up in a high security area of central Delhi, a short distance from the Israeli embassy and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh s official residence , was badly burnt. Police in the Georgian capital defused an explosive device found in the car of a n Israeli embassy employee, the ex-Soviet state s interior ministry said. Ravi Singh, a petrol pump attendant who was standing on the other side of the ro ad from the Delhi blast, said: "There was a huge explosion. There was a woman an d a driver in the car which was burning and the women was dragged out." Israeli embassy spokesman in New Delhi David Goldfarb said that one of the injur ed occupants of the car was an Israeli diplomat but declined to comment further. An Israeli security official said the diplomat was a woman. Indian police cordoned off the area surrounding the burnt-out station wagon and investigators were at the site. "We are examining the materials at the site and we are yet to get the experts r eport so we still cannot say how the blast occurred," New Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said. He said there were no details about the condition of the two injured people but

television reports said that one was in a critical condition. "There was an explosion in an Israeli diplomat s car but we don t know how it ha ppened, Goldfarb said. "We are in constant contact with the local authorities." Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor told in Jerusalem that Israeli a uthorities were investigating the blast in New Delhi as well as the incident Tbi lisi. "We are looking into both of these incidents and cooperating with the local law enforcement agencies," Palmor said. The attacks came between the anniversaries of the deaths of two top Hezbollah mi litants, Imad Mughniyeh and Abbas Mussawi, which spark annual travel warnings fr om the Israeli government. Top Hezbollah commander Mughniyeh was killed in a car bombing in Damascus on Feb ruary 12, 2008, while Mussawi, the group s secretary general, was killed by an I sraeli missile on February 16, 1992. Both attacks were blamed on Israel and sparked vows of revenge from the Shiite m ilitia group. A Jewish centre run by the the ultra-Orthodox Lubavitch movement was among the t argets in the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, which India blames on the Pakista ni-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, in which 10 gunmen killed at least 188 people. The last militant strike in New Delhi was last September when a bomb outside the high court killed 14 people -- the latest in a series of blasts that has shaken public confidence in the Indian government s counter-terror capabilities. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Israeli-embassy-staff-targeted-in-India -Georgia/articleshow/11874634.cms -------Israeli prime minister accuses Iran of being behind car bombings in New Delhi, T bilisi Feb 13, 2012 JERUSALEM: Israel s prime minister has accused Iran of being behind a pair of ca r bombings against Israeli diplomatic targets in India and Georgia. By AGENCIES Feb 13, 2012 CAIRO: Arab foreign ministers agreed on Sunday to back the Syrian opposition and called for a joint UN-Arab peacekeeping mission in Syria, after their meeting i n Cairo on Sunday. They also announced the end of a controversial observer mission that was sent to monitor violence in the conflict-stricken country. How long will we stay as onlookers to what is happening to the brotherly Syrian p eople, and how much longer will we grant the Syrian regime one period after anot her so it can commit more massacres against its people? Foreign Minister Saud AlFaisal asked ministers at the start of the Arab League session. At our meeting today I call for decisive measures, after the failure of the halfsolutions, he said. The Arab League should ... open all channels of communication with the Syrian opposition and give all forms of support to it. A resolution approved by Arab League ministers meeting in Cairo called for "open ing communication channels with the Syrian opposition and providing all forms of political and material support to it. It also urged the Syrian opposition to uni te. The resolution solidifies Assad s ostracism among his Arab neighbors and will ad d to diplomatic pressure on Russia and China, which vetoed UN action on Syria on Feb. 4, to lift their objections and allow the world body to act. It said violence against civilians in Syria had violated international law and t hat perpetrators deserved punishment. It scrapped an Arab League monitoring miss ion. The resolution did not make clear whether the proposed joint UN-Arab peacekeepin g force would involve armed troops, as in previous UN missions. http://arabnews.com/middleeast/article574734.ece -------Pakistani PM charged with contempt By ASIF SHAHZAD Feb 13, 2012 ISLAMABAD: Pakistans Supreme Court charged the prime minister with contempt on Mo nday for defying its orders to reopen a corruption case against his political al ly, President Asif Ali Zardari, sharpening a political crisis that has gripped t he country. If convicted, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani could be imprisoned and will lik

ely lose his job. On Monday, Gilani drove to the court himself, accompanied by his lawyer, amid ti ght security. Helicopters buzzed over a rainy and overcast Islamabad, and hundre ds of police blocked roads leading to the court building in the capital. Gilani said he understood the charges after they were read out and pledged to co ntest them. The move was the formal start to a process that will now take weeks or months to conclude. The next session will be on Feb. 22. The case against Zardari relates to kickbacks he and his late wife, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, allegedly received from Swiss companies when Bhutto wa s in power in the 1990s. They were found guilty in absentia in a Swiss court in 2003. Zardari appealed, but Swiss prosecutors dropped the case after the Pakistani par liament passed an ordinance giving the president and others immunity from old co rruption cases that many agreed were politically motivated. The bill was decried by many in Pakistan, who saw it as an attempt to subvert th e law. The Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional in 2009, and also ordered the government to write a letter to Swiss authorities requesting they reopen the ca se. The government has refused, saying the president enjoys immunity from prosec ution while in office. Court supporters say the judges are upholding the rule of law. But government lo yalists accuse the chief justice of pursuing a personal vendetta against the pre sident, or of acting on behalf of the army to topple the government. Analysts say Gilani seems willing to sacrifice himself and go to jail for the be nefit of his party. But no matter how it ends, the case has distracted the gover nment from dealing with the countrys ailing economy and a violent Islamist insurg ency. The political turmoil has been a problem for the United States as well, because it wants Pakistan to focus on repairing troubled relations between the two count ries and help negotiate peace with the Taleban in Afghanistan. The case has been very destabilizing because it has increased uncertainty, and th e government is always worried about its survival, said Pakistani political analy st Hasan-Askari Rizvi. A government whose performance is poor has become poorer. http://arabnews.com/world/article574913.ece -------Sect planned to turn Nigeria into Afghanistan Written by Taiwo Adisa, Abuja Monday, 13 February 2012 INVESTIGATIONS into activities of the dreaded militant Islamic sect, Boko Haram have led operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) and its collaborative lo cal and international agencies into the sources of funding of the dreaded sect. Information at the disposal of Nigerian Tribune indicates that operatives were t old that the group had received funds from some Al-Qaeda-linked organisations ba

sed in the middle East. However, the operatives were said to have made a shocking find, which confirmed that the group actually received funding from a United Kingdom-based (UK) organi sation. It was gathered that leaders of the sect already arrested had opened up by givin g some strategic information, especially on the funding of the dreaded organisat ion. Sources confirmed that while the organisation relied on donations by its members in its earlier days, its links with Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) opened i t to fundings from groups in Saudi Arabia and the UK. According to the sources, different confirmations coming from sources in Boko Ha ram had indicated clearly that a group known as Al-Muntada Trust Fund, with head quarters in the United Kingdom, had extended some financial assistance to the se ct. Investigations, so far, revealed that the sect received financial assistance fro m some Islamic organisations. The sect was also said to have received funding from Islamic World Society with h eadquarters in Saudi Arabia, one source stated. It was gathered that while initial funds for the sect came from contributions by members, there were also donations from notable Muslims, especially a businessm an, who was once said to have donated a bus and some loud speakers to the organi sation and the late Baba Fugu, Mohammed Yusufs in-law, who was said to have donat ed a farmland at Auno village in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. It was also gathered that security agencies have uncovered another sponsor, whos e identity was given as a businessman from Bauchi State. He was said to have dev eloped links with Al-Qaeda in Somalia having received some training from one Abu Umar Al-Wadud, the man who leads Al-Qaeda in Somalia. The man was said to have escaped from Nigeria in 2009, following the onslaught b y security agencies and he is said to be living in Somalia. Intelligence officers were also said to have been told that the said businessman visited Nigeria in October 2010 and was said to have held meetings in Kano with the leaders of Boko Haram, including Abubakar Shekau, the acclaimed military co mmander. It was also gathered that the sect originally planned to replicate Afghanistan s ituation in Nigeria, as it named its original base in Yobe State as Afghanistan. Investigators were said to have confirmed that Boko Haram was fashioned after th e Taliban movement in Afghanistan and that one of its earliest bases located in Kanama, Yobe State was named Afghanistan. The base was, however, said to have been demolished in December 2004. The group is originally fashioned after the Tali-bans in Afghanistan and it inten ded to replicate the Afghan situation across Nigeria. That is why one of the original bases was named Afghanistan before its demolition in 2004, a source disclosed. It was also learnt at the weekend that the State Security Services (SSS) planned

to immediately commence the trial of the arrested Boko Haram kingpins as, accor ding to sources, the Director-General of SSS had issued orders indicating that t he operatives investigating the suspects must conclude investigations quickly, s o as to give way for trial. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/35888-boko-harams-funding-traced -to-uk-sarabia-sect-planned-to-turn-nigeria-into-afghanistan-arrested-kingpin-op ens-up -------Nasheed party lawmakers allege threats, victimization MONDAY, 13 FEBRUARY 201 Tension gripped Maldives political scene today with lawmakers of Mohamed Nasheed s party alleging being threatened with terrorism charges by the new regime, aft er hundreds of supporters of the ousted president laid siege to the parliament. First of all I want to inform you that we did not allow or give permission to fly

drones from Pakistan, Mr Gilani told Al Jazeera television. Drones are counter-productive and we have discussed it thoroughly with the US adm inistration.
