completed Master of Architecture degree at the California College of the Arts
completed Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture at UC Berkeley returned to UC Berkeley and continued working at PPI hired by Porfolio Property Investors in Oakland born in Chicago raised in the south suburb of Flossmoor chose architecture as a career because of the potential to help people have a better life through the design of their habitat attended the University of California at Berkeley, with summer internships in information technology attended Laney College in Oakland, with an internship in engineering These four projects represent my journey to fnd ways to improve the quality of life for the urban being. This can be accomplished by improving the health of society through the provision of benefcial spatial qualities and ecosystems in cities. I aim to design urban habitats. 1983 1988 1999 2001 2004 2005 2006 2009 2013 Selected Works 2004 - 2011 2 Tondi Tower 6 Street Connection 12 Bridging the Sky-Cycle 20 Oakland Art Museum Greg Baker (510) 847-5304 1023 57th St. Oakland, CA 94608 2 6 12 20 2 Greg Baker 3 A diagrid structure and asymmetrical elevator cores support a tower of tondo views through conic voids. Two foors are left open for outside air and wind to alleviate heat and force. I learned a rendering program called Maxwell, and built a seven-foot-tall model both by hand and using a laser cutter. Tondi Tower instructor: Andrew Kudless organization: CCA Rapid Prototyping Advanced Studio Spring 2011 The students have to negotiate space with each other across a small section of the frst water- front park project in Hong Kong. People coming by boat or bus can view other buildings through the towers voids that also serve as ventilation, program, and circulation. 4 Greg Baker 5 i C oic cx1-cx1 i1-cx1 1 cno-t| cx1-cx1 cx1-i1 -ts1-uc1u-c i1-i1 (i1-cx1) i | o-nt| cx1-cx1 cx1-i1 i1-cx1 i1-i1 ||0U|^| |csioc1it| | i1-cx1 1 cx1-i1 1ct1c- i1-i1 C i1-cx1 0icc i1-i1 | i1-cx1 1 cx1-i1 1ou-isn 8 osi1t|i1x C i1-cx1 | cx1-cx1 |c1ti| i1-i1 C i1-cx1 | cx1-i1 |csioc1it| 1ct1c- 0icc 1ou-isn 8 osi1t|i1x |c1ti| Parameterization of a lobby wall in a New York cancer center by Lewis, Tsurumaki, Lewis leads to a taxonomy revealing the spatial potential of voids in many types of volumes. 6 Greg Baker 7 MINNA STREET N 1 = 16-0 LASKIE STREET MISSION STREET NINTH STREET Special care was taken to respect the faades of the welfare offce and the flm school. The ramp allows program to cycle from public above to private. The stairway allows access to the observation area. 18 Greg Baker 19 I analyzed the fight patterns of birds near Crissy Fields, a proposed observation station for atmospheric research. The core of the program interfaces with a pedestrian bridge at the confuence of paths between observation stations. An overlay of the section cut over an early sketch is a representation method I would like to revisit. 20 Greg Baker 21 The museum uses a simple material palette of wood and stained, reinforced concrete. The circulation meanders in two direction, one narrow path and one wide, ending in the compass gallery and hidden gallery. Various sized galleries break the street grid and offer parents the opportunity to bring their young children to the art museum. Its small size, accessibility, and plentiful seating accommodate the elderly and disabled. Clerestory lighting is controlled by the ratio of the wall depth to the shallow opening beneath the roof.
