FortiGate Hardware Quick Inspection Package (HQIP) Guide ======================================================== 1.

Location HQIP is stored into the backup partition of the compact flash on every unit. It can be executed by choosing [B] in BIOS configuration menu. After that the partition of HQIP will become default and the partition of FortiOS will be backup. User has to choose [B] in BIOS configuration menu to restore FortiOS and set its partition to default. HQIP is designed to check the system function and its interface in production. HQIP can also be used in pre-shipment check, RMA verification as it can identify 90% failure symptom. 2. Function summary 1) BIOS integrity check: verify CA and license implementation. 2) PCI device check: verify device ID on every PCI device. 3) System configuration check: verify CPU model name, CPU benchmark, memory size, HD size and Compact flash size. 4) Memory subsystem check: verify memory function and benchmark. 5) Hard disk check: verify block read speed, interface w/r function. 6) Compact flash check: verify interface w/r function. 7) ASIC check: verify ASIC operation. 8) USB port check: verify data transmission on USB interface. 9) NIC check: verify data transmission on Ethernet interface. 10) LCD/keypad check: verify keypad function and LCD display. Note: type fortinet to bypass any failure breakpoint. This will help completing the test in the case such as USB loop back cable is absent. 3. HQIP test result Upon the completion of the test, HQIP will display a hardware diagnostic summary as the following. If there is any failure shown, user can decide to RMA the unit. ========================================================================== Current time is: 1. BIOS 2. PCI device 3. SYS config 4. 5. Note 1) U means the port needs a loop back plug: a RJ45 connector with 13, 2-6, 4-7, 5-8 linked. 2) USB loop back cable: A USB serial cable with 2-3 linked in its DB9 port. 3) Two FG4000 blades have to run HQIP together in order to test OOB port. 4) Two FG5001 cards have to run HQIP together in order to test 2 NICs on backplane. 5) Ethernet cable is crossover.
