Our meetings will take place 4 times this year. There will be two sessions on a Wednesday night and two on Sunday between masses. Please watch for these dates and times. Although, we expect parents to attend classes with their young people on these days, these sessions are not only for those families registered in religious formation. Please feel free to join us even if you dont have students in religious formation. Please also plan to participate in a Fair Trade sale that we will be holding during November and December. CRS Fair Trade is a parish-based program that educates Catholics in the United States about the benefits of fair trade and creates opportunities to promote international economic justice through principled decisions about how we shop. We will sponsor a sale that will allow you to purchase fairly traded coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, handcrafts and more, so you can advance a new, more just model of international trade based on right relationships. If you participated in Intergenerational Learning last year, you saw how valuable it is to gather all ages together to learn from each other. If you were not able to participate, we hope the new schedule will make it more convenient for you to be involved.

Sparks From Mark

While Father Mark is in St. Louis this weekend, he asked if I would write a bit in the Sparks column to outline our plans for Intergenerational Learning this year. First of all, Betsy and I must say thank you to all who participated as catechists, food preparers, and attendees last year. All in all, we had a really great experience and a lot of good sharing took place. This year we will be exploring the social teachings of the church. We had chosen this subject long before the hurricane disasters. In light of these disasters, I think many have asked what guidance the church has to offer when it comes to helping those who are in need. We will take a close look at the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, which is the domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U.S. Catholic bishops and Catholic Relief Services which is an international relief and development agency of the U.S. Catholic community.

For the Ride Home

Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 9, 2005
Scripture Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us! (Isaiah 25:9) you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. (Psalm 23:5b) My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19) Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find. (Matthew 22:9) Reflection Who is invited to the feast? What will God supply for the feast? Where is the feast? Are you attending? Who did you bring to the feast? This rests in the conviction that the life and ministry of Jesus was focused on those at the margins of religious and social institutions to such a degree that he himself identified with them unto death and into hell. In this view Christs Spirit is to be discerned in the struggle for liberation among those who have been cast to the margins of Church and society, making it possible to embrace marginalized existence itself.
