Project Synopsis

SYNOPSIS
PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL SYSTEM
in Oswal Woolen Mills Ltd.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Oswal Woolen Mills NAHAR GROUP (now known as the Malwa Group), established in 1949 surges ahead to establish it self as a reputed industrial conglomerate with a wide ranging activity from Spinning, Knitting, Fabric, Hosiery and ready made Garments. The group has spinning capacity of 0.4 millions cotton spindles and 25000 worsted spindles with turn over of Rs. 2300 Crore inclusive of export turnover of 630 Crore. Out of total production, 60% of the production is dedicated to exports and the rest 40% for the domestic market. The production facilities have been awarded ISO 9001:2000. However, over the past one year the export and hence the turnover of the Oswal has been declining. In the meanwhile, the manufacturing production is also low. Though there have been many reasons which together have contributed to the decline in performance of Oswal, lack of good appraisal of the employees mostly Middle and Junior Manager is not good. In their appraisal biasness takes place. The young employees of the origination (length of year of service) do not get the feel of being given the equal opportunities.
