February 17, 2012 Via E-mail All former active members and affiliates of the Epsilon Delta chapter of Chi Psi Fraternity 2313 Sheridan Road Evanston, IL 60201 Gentlemen: It has come to our attention that, although the Epsilon Delta chapter of Chi Psi fraternity has been closed by your national organization, former active members of this chapter have continued the new member process for those men who were pledges at the time the chapter was closed. This includes: having new members spend the night at the chapter house; asking them to do chores and tasks for former active members; providing them alcohol at events; and having them undergo various education programs or activities. These activities as well as any other activities of an organized or fraternal nature must cease immediately. Therefore please be advised: The Chi Psi chapter at Northwestern and all of its former members and affiliates (including individuals who were going through the new member education or pledge process at the time the chapter was closed) are to immediate cease functioning as a fraternal organization. This includes, but is not limited to: sponsoring or co-sponsoring events and activities; wearing letters; recruiting, educating, pledging or initiating new members; and meeting as an organization (in whole or in part). This also includes engaging in any activities under names associated with Chi Psi or Lodge, such as intermurals or other campus activities. Members are also prohibited from re-colonizing as a different group or forming or joining en masse another organization, fraternal or otherwise. If these directives are not followed, or if any other alleged acts of misconduct occur, individual students or groups of students will be subject to formal conduct procedures (including sanctions for violations) at Northwestern. Actions could also be taken against individual members by Chi Psi headquarters. Individuals should also understand that the Universitys hazing policy specifically prohibits falsely leading an individual or individuals to believe that they will be inducted/initiated by participating in particular activities. Since you all are prohibited from engaging in any fraternal activities as a group, we would consider it an act of hazing to continue any pledge process or to initiate or induct any individuals into some group (whether recognized or not by the university). We also remind you that, acceptance of an activity on the part of a new member or individual does not justify participation in or sponsorship of the activity. For more information, see the hazing policy at <http://www.northwestern.edu/gogreek/resources/policies/hazing.html> .

Individuals should also be aware that failure to comply with these requirements may constitute a further violation of University policy and may subject those individuals to additional sanctions. Thank you for your attention to these matters. Very truly yours.
