Zombieland

Typography The font is made to resemble the style that would be seen in a carnival situation, it is not dissimilar to the metal plating used above rides to inform fair goers what they are. This ties in the the film's narrative, where the group's final destination is a fairground. The bold typography is coloured in a deep red that is parallel to that of blood, as well as the obvious denotation that this is what a zombie film contains, it also suggests the darker themes of horror and death that are portrayed throughout the feature. Movement/Editing The title sequence is shot in slow motion, this could be to emulate the fact that when you are in a dangerous situation time seems to move much slower. This helps to put the audience into the place of the on screen characters and experience their fear. It also allows you to focus on the different aspects of all the shots, enabling you to take in the artistic detail and realism of the zombies. The titles are done so that the words almost become a part of the set, as if they have been given physical presence in the sequence. This is demonstrated by them breaking apart and scattered as people appear to run through them. This gives an extra sense of energy to the opening. The smashed letters connote the theme of destruction which is present throughout the film.

Image The title sequence shows a variety of different shots, each depicting zombie attacks that are resultant to the spreading infection. The scenes are short and the range of settings shows how widespread the infection has become. These are often displayed in comedic situations, with clever use of everyday scenarios, for example; a father and son in a three legged race being chased by other infected participants. This connotes the idea that the film is a 'Zom-Com' and has comedic themes throughout. Typical iconography is seen in the form of weapons, blood, and severed limbs. This, again, helps the audience to understand the film's genre. Lighting The scenes are all shot in broad daylight, which is contrast to stereotypical zombie films which use darkness to create a sense of fear and atmosphere. The use of everyday lighting suggests that these

scenarios are common occurrences, and have become somewhat of a norm. The use of bright lighting suggests the continuing survival of the zombie race, but perhaps also a sense of hope left amongst the living. Sound The opening sequence cleverly uses the song 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' by Metallica, not only does this song complement the film echoically but also lyrically. The rock music genre ties in with the fast paced, darker themed present in Zombieland, helping to conjure the required atmosphere. The song's lyrics detail a group of men's life coming to an end, the struggle they go through, and also talks about weaponry. Order of Crew/Cast As is conventional with opening titles, Zombieland's only feature important above the line talent; main crew and cast. The first mention is of Columbia Pictures and associated companies; Priah, and Relativity Media. Following this, the main stars names appear in order of status. The title 'Zombieland' then appears in the frame's centre, making it the direct focus. Mentions of important crew then appear in the subsequent order; casting, costume, music, editing, production designer, director of photography, executive producers, main producer, writers and the director
