Objectives:

This course is intended for non-mechanical-engineering students. It trains them for the basic skills for analysis of simple mechanical systems. Part 1 of the course, in its greater majority, is devoted to modeling and analysis of mechanical systems that are in static equilibrium. Part 2 of the course introduces kinematics and dynamic analyses of particle and of rigid-body motion. In both parts 1 and 2, an emphasis is placed on drawing a free-body diagram and on selecting an appropriate coordinate system. In solving different problems of the course, students learn to follow general, well-systemized procedures. Creativity is required for skillful application of these procedures. This emphasizes the general engineering approach to problem solving. Part1. Statics 1. General Principles 2. Force Vectors
