Apocalypse
Chapter 1: The Gods Convene

In a hall, far away from Midgard there is a meeting of some of the most powerful and mighty leaders in the Universe. There are twenty of these people around a grand table. The majority are men dressed in battle armor, while the females that are there all though smaller than their male counter parts are just as fierce as the men that they stand with. The one that sat in the large throne like chair and was dressed in armor that appeared to be of a golden color. He appeared to be much older than the other warriors at the table and wore an eye patch covering an injury to one of his eyes. He spoke, and when he spoke it seemed as the whole universe could hear his words.

P age |5

Fellow warriors the time for war is on us! This is not a treaty for peace, but is the twilight. The world of the Elves has burned, and the Elven Queen has been driven from her home, Surt now threatens us as his world closes in on ours, The old man said with the wisdom of a hardened general or king. Father we do not have the forces to fight off such an assault as this, If the Elven world has fallen then we may fall as well, even the Vanir are just as powerful as us! One of the younger warriors at the table said. Vali, we have not chosen the battle, we cannot surrender or concede when the enemy seeks to annihilate us, The Old Man said. After all these years, why wait till now to attack? He has had eternity to attack, Another warrior, this one with a missing hand said. Tyr, all these years has not wizened you to the fact that the execution does not matter when it

6|P ag e

happens, but the fact that it eventually happens, the fact that he waited til now attests to his patience, the King is always patient before his invasion, The Old Man said. Lord Odin, what of the Einherjar? One of the women warriors asked the one identified as Odin. They should be ready as they have prepared. There is no reason to doubt them, they are some the finest warriors that lived my dear Valkyrie, Odin said. I believe we should pre-emptively strike Surt before he crosses the bridge, Tyr said. It would ultimately fail, we cannot violate fate, anything we do will make the inevitable happen as a result, you should know the inherent dangerous of trying to change fate dear Tyr, all roads lead to the same destination. If the destination is the same then how can you change the end result? Odin said.

P age |7

It is frustrating Lord to think that we are merciless to change what is happening, Tyr happened to say. A Woman dressed in a robe then spoke up. There are things about this event that the Norns have failed to reveal to any living thing. They do not know the inherent dangers of attempts to change one s fate, so the fact is that they did not tell you the whole story, nor did the Volla. As a seeress myself I cannot reveal the fate of what will happen, but I can say that your whole fate is still shrouded in mystery. No seeress will ever tell you the whole fate, the futility of attempting to change one s fate is the reason men as gods cannot know their fate. The fate happens regardless of all intervention, The woman said. I concur with Frigga, our fate must remain unknown. Our warriors if they knew they would ultimately die would not fight as well as they had the chance to taste victory, Odin said.

8|P ag e

What of the Wolf? Tyr said. The Volla said he will be set free, there is nothing we can do about that. The only thing we can do is stand against the giants as they wage their war on us. Twilight is upon us, Odin said. Well the fact is that Surt intends on destroying the entire universe as he had destroyed the world of the Light Elves, We must stop him from laying waste to our world, as well as the world of men, Lady Freya was fortunate that she escaped, without either Elf Queen the world would be utterly destroyed, Tyr said. For life to continue after the twilight, it is imperative that both Hela and Freya live. The cycle of life is entirely dependent on their existence. The most important creatures on the universe are the Elves, both Light and Dark. Without them the life in the Universe would cease to exist, Odin said.

P age |9

From what I understand Freya lives, she sought refuge on Midgard; yet the fate of Hela is unknown, there is a disturbance in the flow of souls in Helheim; there has been no recent souls to pass the gates as well as I do not sense Hela or Garm s presence in the underworld, Frigga said. If Hela is missing then this is a serious problem, she may not like us, but she would never violate her duty to preserve the balance between life and death, Odin said. Well she is the Queen of the Dark Elves, if she fell; then death would have died in the universe and the fallen would find no place. The death of the Goddess of Death would destroy the universe much in the same fashion as the death of Freya, the elves would lose their power and they would not be able to restore the tree when the universe burns, Frigga said.

10 | P a g e

We must find the Dark Elf Queen before Surt finds her, she is one of the pillars of existence. I find it odd that she would flee Helheim unless she was threatened, Tyr said. Well more than likely she still lives, however if she may have avoided battle rather than overtly fight Surt. The fact that Helheim is not burning means that she left to preserve her home, Surt would find no value in assaulting Helheim unless the Queen was there, yet the fact is that if Hela is on Midgard she is in danger when Surt comes unless she finds shelter from his wrath, Odin said. Well, if the Queen does not wish to be found then we would be powerless to find her unless she was in her home. She could look like anyone at the moment, in fact she could be influencing warring factions on Midgard as we speak. The fact is that we are not elves and only the elves can recognize each other, Tyr said.

P a g e | 11

Hela is resourceful, she may intend on raising the dead to fight Surt on Midgard, if both Elvish Queens are on Midgard then that means that Midgard is going to be the place of battle, Odin said. The dead have no power to fight Surt, Surt would burn them with a wave of his hand. Hela can raise armies of Zombies, but the fact is Surt is Fire incarnate, no Elf could ever possibly stand against Surt when his very essence would incinerate any elf, Tyr said. That is the reason the light elves fell to Surt, Odin said, No elf in the universe could ever fight the fire giants. It is simply impossible when the Elves weakness is the very nature of the Surt s existence. Elves cannot even enter his dimension; they would be incinerated before they even cross the portal. Heimdall watches the bridge as he always had, he has said there are strange sounds in the distance, Valkyrie said to Odin.

12 | P a g e

Our enemies gather they rally for war. When they reach the bridge, the horn will sound, Odin said. Albert sat in tower talking to Freya, he looked at her and said, What do we expect now? I do not know, it might take a while for the horn to sound, but when it does, we must seek refuge in your shelter, Freya said. It is kind of strange, that if we survive this that it would be our duty to rebuild the world, Richter said. It has not come to that yet, I suspect that things will pass at the proper time, Freya said. Well I have come to understand the futility of fighting against your fate, Richter said. You have to do what you must, the things that you do is the fate that the Norns have assigned. If you are victorious in Battle it is because the Norns have ordained it. The Norns decide the ultimate fate of

P a g e | 13

the universe, their power even rivals that of the Gods, Freya said. I can t imagine something being more powerful than the Aesir, I mean was it not Odin that forged the earth? Richter asked. That is the mere work of a craftsman. If anyone had the same tools they could do the same. It is the universe that grants us the power to do what we must do, we are ants in the face of nature, even in the destruction of something like the Ragnarok, the Universe can fix any damage caused by Surt, even under total annihilation, Freya said. From what I understand then the tree itself is the ultimate authority in the universe, wouldn t that make it a god, Diana asked. Not so, a god has to have direction; he must have a will to do the things that he does. The universe is not an entity more so than a space in the multi verse. The fact is that there are things out there

14 | P a g e

greater than Yggdrasil. However, we are entirely too small to see them, Freya said, Well wouldn t go on and on until there was an ultimate authority? Diana asked. Well that would be like us trying to cross the galaxy to find life. If you do not have the capability for that mode of travel, it would be impossible, Freya said. Have you not travelled the galaxy to get here? Richter asked. We have the knowledge to pass great impasses, yet there is a limitation to our power. Our power is relegated to travelling within this Universe. There are other Universes out there that we have no power over. The fact is that if somehow do manage to make it to another Universe we would be limited to the rules of that Universe, Freya said. I think I am starting to understand now, Richter said.

P a g e | 15

Victoria stood up and came over to the Queen and embraced her. Freya put her hand on her head and caressed her hair as she locked her arms around Freya. I wish there was something more I could do, I just feel so powerless huddled in this building impotent to do anything, Victoria said. Freya smiled and kissed Victoria, she then said, Fear not young Elf, there is reason to do anything; Anything that you do that would be other than hiding would lead to your death, I feel that you are a very important elf in the future. I should learn the ways of rebuilding the world so that you can be productive when the time comes, Freya said. I am so glad I am not a Dark Elf, I would not be able to live with Flowers and his cruelty, Victoria said as she embraced with Freya. Sister, fear not; should you had become the dokkalfar, you would have been ruled by Hela, not

16 | P a g e

Flowers. Flowers does not speak for the dokkalfar and I fear with his nature he will betray the Dark Elves. Hela may be the Goddess of Death but she will not betray her duty to the cycle of life, Freya said. So I assume Hela is essentially the Queen of the dokkalfar? Richter asked. Yes, she leads the Dark Elves. If she ceased to exist then Death would be thrown out of balance, as the Dark Elves would lose their power. There are several entities in the Universe whose existence pillars the Universe. Should any of these beings die then the cosmos would be thrown out of order until Yggdrasil replaced it, Freya said. Who are these beings that you describe as being, Pillars Richter asked. Well one is Ymir, the frost Giant, without him there would be no giants in the Universe, and thus no Gods. In fact there would be no matter or substance

P a g e | 17

in the Universe. He is the most powerful of giants. In fact, he is the creature that gave substance and formation to the Universe. Had it not been for him, Midgard would not have been possible, Freya said. Who else is there? Richter asked. Well there is Surt of course. He is the energy that gives life to the formations that are created in the Universe. He believes that he should rule the Universe, but his flames are entirely too intense. If he ruled the Universe it would be like living on the sun, he would scorch all existence, Freya said. So we have Substance and energy to animate substance, what else is there? Richter asked. Well of course there is myself and Hela, We govern the balance between life and death, as it is our duty to transfer things to the right places when they die and to reassign new souls to bodies when they are born. As well as control over the natural world as to create life when no life flourishes, Freya said.

18 | P a g e

Are the Aesir Gods a pillar? Richter asked. No, they merely establish order in the Universe, but the sanctity of the Universe can exist without them, Freya said. I think I understand, but it is kind of strange, I always thought of gods as the creators of the Universe, it is strange that they really have no impact on the ultimate fate of nature, and the smaller beings are the ones that have a greater impact on the Universe than the traditional ones, Richter said. The Glory of the gods such as Odin, Thor and such are great men for humans, but in reality they only serve humanity. The people that maintain the Universe are the Eles and the Giants. The Aesir have no impact on the Universe as a whole, the only thing that they can do is manipulate the things that the Universe has provided, Freya said.

P a g e | 19

If Surt intends to kill the Gods, then how can the Gods win if killing Surt would invariably result in their own destruction, Richter said. The Gods are ignorant to the fact of Surt s importance to Yggdrasil. The fact is that they are doomed to fail from the start, Freya said. That is unfortunate, I see the need of staying out of the battle; how do you fight when you cannot win, Sigrid said. The fact is they fight because they must, it is their fate, Freya said, Odin knows he can t win, but he makes appearance that there is Victory so that his soldiers fight valiantly, but in the there is no real victory, Freya said. Well I assume a king would need his men to fight, even if he tells them that they may win, even though the odds are stacked against him.

20 | P a g e

Sigrid sat there and popped some IPod head phones into here ear. Freya looked curiously at her and then said, What are those? Music player, let s listen to music, Sigrid said. How do they fight the band in such a small device? Freya inquired. It is a recording, the band plays in a studio and makes an electronic copy of the music that is recorded onto the device that she has, Albert said. Very strange, Freya said as she walked over to Sigrid. Sigrid gave Freya one of the Ear buds and she placed it in her ear. What is this noise you listen to? Freya asked Sigrid. It s awesome, modern music, Sigrid said. Victoria, it is horrible crap that only Sigrid listens to, Victoria said openly.

P a g e | 21

Awwweee someone wants a serenade each and every night Sigrid opined. Victoria said

I will shove that radio up your before Freya hushed her.

I don t think you should be antagonizing Victoria like this, Freya said to Sigrid. Yes, sister, Sigrid said signing. Victoria started grinning at Sigrid, and when Freya turned and glared at her, she wiped the grin off her face. Freya walked over to Victoria and sat down next to her. Victoria leaned against the Queen and started to hum. Freya ran her hand through her hair as she sat there purring. Diana walked up on the other side of Freya and leaned against her. Freya put her free arm around her and comforted both of the elves at her side.

22 | P a g e

Sigrid walked over to Richter and put her hands out to be hugged. You know what I want, she said grinning.

Richter leaned into her and put his arms around her waist and kissed her on the forehead. She purred as she rested in his embrace and remained in the position for a few minutes. How does my little blueberry feel? Richter said to her. She giggled and snuggled a little before responding; Only being like this matters. Freya looked up at Sigrid and smiled, You two look great together, I imagine your offspring will be great members of our tribe. Sigrid giggled as Richter sat there running his fingers through her hair.

P a g e | 23

We will be together for the next 2000 years, Sigrid purred quietly. The two of you are a beautiful union, you two are entirely what it means to be a creature of the light, Freya said addressing Sigrid and Richter. The display is entirely revolting, why don t they go to the bedroom to get it over with already, Victoria said as she appeared to be nauseated. You are young my sister, when you find your man you will be entirely merciless to control yourself, you will do the same and there is no way you would be able to control yourself, Freya said. Ungggh, Victoria replied as she rolled her eyes, I think I have more control than that. You may fight your urges now, but when it comes time for you, you will be just as Sigrid. You are her sister, you cannot deny what you are; you affinity will come to you, and when it does you will

24 | P a g e

have no control, you will be as you are possessed, Freya said. I can resist anything, I have done so for years, Victoria said. You were human then, the fact is that you are now one of us, your will is relegated to fate. If it is written in the Web of Wyrd then all roads will lead to the same destination. Any path you take to resist it will have stop at the same destination. You cannot stop you fate, just as much as a creature cannot deny what it is, when the time comes fate will come down on you like a sledgehammer, Freya said. I have resisted so far, Victoria said. Have you, I see that you are slowly accepting your fate. Did you not embrace your sisters even when you tried to deny your fate, even Diana knows you coming to terms as you have embraced her exclusively over other elves. It is a

P a g e | 25

matter of time before you fully accept. You are one of us, you cannot deny what you are, eventually you will become a full light elf and acceptant of your fate, no elf can resist the call of their nature, Freya said. Diana walked up to Victoria and put her hands around Victoria and Victoria likewise rested her head on Diana s chest. Diana and Victoria both fell down on the sofa where they remained there locked in embrace. Freya smiled at this, walked over to them, and kissed each of the elves on the forehead as they laid there. Sigrid looked over and smirked at Victoria as she laid there with Diana and said, Looks like Victoria likes Diana hehe. Victoria looked at her and hissed with a little contempt in her eyes, It s not like that. Freya laughed and said, She will find her place eventually, it is inevitable. The overwhelming

26 | P a g e

urge of the Elven nature will over power her and she would be merciless to choose, Freya said. Sucks to be you Victoria, fate is gonna drop some bricks on you, Sigrid laughed. Victoria rolled her eyes as she lay with Diana. Diana lifted her hand and stroked the Blonde locks of Victoria s hair. Freya likewise went to the Cooler and pulled a large vegetable tray out of the cooler and brought it over to the girls. Ohh lunch time, Sigrid piped up releasing her hold of Richter and hopped over to the other elves. Victoria and Diana sat up and Freya sat next to Victoria on the Sofa. Victoria went to reach for a veggie when Freya halted her. This is a community meal that we are sharing; we must bless our food before we consume it. It is only right to give nature its thanks before we take part of it, Freya said to Victoria.

P a g e | 27

With that, Freya spoke a small prayer and blessed the food. She took a small bowl for each elf and passed out a share for each elf there, including Albert and Richter. As each elf received their share from Freya they each kissed the Queen on the cheek as they received their food from Freya. When all the elves we served, Freya simply stated, Now that everything is right with nature you may consume your share of the community meal. The elves all thanked Freya from her generosity and at the shares that they had been provided. These are interesting customs that you have Freya, Albert said to her. It is our custom, when Light Elves participate in a community meal they must follow the tradition, Freya said.

28 | P a g e

Well I cannot argue against the tradition, Albert said. Nor should you brother, we are sworn to uphold the will of the tree. All elves, both light and dark are avatars of the tree. We are entirely more important to the Universe than any god is. Even though we do not match their might, nonetheless, the world can do without the gods, but the world could not live without the elves. Both Dark Eles and Light Elves maintain the balance between light and death in the Universe. Should Hela, or myself fall as we are the first of the Elves, then our descendants would lose their power, Freya said. It seems that the world would mourn your loss, but would the tree replace you if you were destroyed? Albert said. They would, but not right away, If I died it could be another 100,000 years before I came back

P a g e | 29

into existence. That is a long time for nothing to be born or grow, Freya said. Why wouldn t the tree replace you immediately? Richter asked. It wouldn t know I was dead replied. If it is so powerful, Wouldn t it know? Albert asked. The tree has no will or mind of its own, it creates things at random, it may replace me right away, but then again, something separate from the tree would have to reconstitute me. In the event that I die, The other Elf Queen could resurrect me, as both of us have the power to restore the other, Freya said. Would Hela restore you? Albert asked. Freya

30 | P a g e

She would have to, she would be powerless if I died, as I would be powerless if she died, Freya said. So the balance of light and dark is entirely dependent on each other from what I understand, Richter said. Exactly, I have the power to restore and create any elf, as does Hela, If she were to die then I would have to restore her before I run out of souls to use to create more elves and life forms. She provides me the souls that I place in vessels; she removes and stores the souls from the vessels that have expired. Both Elven Queens can restore life. As the all dokkalfar have powers to restore life as well. Normal light elves can create vessels, but only the Dark Elves can create the spirits that fill those vessels. If one of the Elven Queens die then the other would have to restore her to maintain the balance of the cosmos, Also any elf that attempts to

P a g e | 31

burn an elf Queen would likewise be burned by either or both Queens as they would threaten the balance of nature, Freya said. So if Kross harms you then Hela would essentially stomp his spine in? Richter said. There is no wrath in the Universe that would describe the suffering she would make him endure should he do such a thing, Freya said. Richter approached the Elf Queen and embraced her, she looked at him and said, Fear not brother, we both know the costs of those that threaten the power of Yggdrasil. Every power in the Universe knows the cost of threatening those that balance the life that the Universe makes possible. The only ones that would have the power to defy the Gods and those that live would be the Pillars themselves, as you can see with Surt s war on the Universe, Freya said.

32 | P a g e

The Queen then in turn puts her hands on Richter s shoulders and kisses on both cheeks. Sigrid approached Richter from behind and put her arms around him and rested her head in between his should blades. Victoria and Diana both get up and start hugging Richter from the sides and it turned into one big group hug as the elves sat there and embraced each other. See Victoria, you are one of us; as an elf this is something you are compelled to do, Freya said. The Gods held fast as the soldiers watched on the tower at Bifrost. They could see smoke in the distance as the sky turned red. In fact, it seemed as though the sun was growing larger as the Einherjar kept their vigil. Heimdall stood watch at the tower as large muscular god approached him carrying a hammer. The sky stirs Thor, the Fire Beasts rally, Heimdall said as he clutched a large horn on his belt.

P a g e | 33

Fear not, it is battle we must fight, I have fought these beasts before, a Demon is a Demon, Thor said, It may be more than we can wage Thor, I have seen many battles from this keep, yet I have never seen one where the very sun we stand under rebels against us, Heimdall said. Those who fight are blessed; we must fight in the name of our kin. It may be good for the weak to hide, but those that have the power must fight. What use is a warrior that will not pick up his sword? Thor asked. There is a foul stench from this fight, I fear the Norns may forsake us, Heimdall said. Be it as it may there is no better glory than those who die on the battlefield. Even in defeat, a warrior is victorious, Thor said.

34 | P a g e

I wished that I was as optimistic as you, but the All Father said there is no value in a corpse, Heimdall replied. At that, Thor scoffed and laughed, Brother, a warrior fights; that is what he does. I cannot forsake my duty and desert the world I swore to protect, Thor said. Well if there is no victory in the battle you wage, then what is the point of fighting? Heimdall replied. Would you not fight? You are the guardian, even you must fight to protect our home Heimdall, Thor said. I have a duty to fight, yes. My battle is not that of glory dear Thor, I have to protect our home, they can only pass should I die, Heimdall said.

P a g e | 35

As I must fight too brother, I swore to defend the world of man, I cannot forsake them when Surt threatens their world, Thor said. I heard that Odin said Hela was not in her realm, do you think they attacked her? Heimdall said. Doubtful, she probably fled so that her world did not suffer the same fate as the Light Elf planet. The Dark elves are safe, but the Light Elves were ravaged, Thor said. I suppose that Surt was after Freya, what of the Light Elf Queen? Heimdall asked. She fled to Midgard, her location is unknown. If Hela dies then Freya would have to restore her, Thor said. Well the fate of the Universe depends on the survival of those two women. Should they both

36 | P a g e

die then the balance of light and darkness would be obliterated, Heimdall said. The power of the Elves is unquestioned, but again if the Norns will it then they would be in peril and the only thing that would be able to restore them would be the Norns, as they are the highest avatars of Yggdrasil, Thor said. Of course, even Surt s flames would be useless against the power of the Norns, they solely are the highest power in the Universe, even Surt would be annihilated at their whim, Heimdall said. This battle is entirely the Norn s doing. They have pitted the elements against each other, but we will be victorious brother. Thor said. Have you forgotten your embarrassing defeat at the Utgard-Loki? Heimdall replied. Not a defeat brother, they cheated, Thor replied.

P a g e | 37

Right, is it really in the giant s nature to honestly organize a fair competition? I love the part when Loki was telling the story of how they told you that you were drinking the Ocean, Heimdall laughed. With that Thor s face turned red, Just like Loki to run his dirty mouth, but he is not running his mouth right now being chained to a rock in Helheim while the serpent drops venom on him. Well this is twilight, do you expect him to remain there for the twilight, Heimdall said. Loki is a pissant, he turns everything to manure, Thor replied. I suppose that is how he stole your hammer, because he is beneath you? Heimdall said.

38 | P a g e

When Thor heard that he just stamped his feet, turned around, and left. Heimdall resumed his watch and noted the happenings of the bridge.
