Data Sheet System Engineering Course

Overview This course covers the hardware elements that make up a Trend system and the basic concepts behind the operation of IQ controllers. It leads to the ability to set up the hardware of IQ3 and IQ2 series controllers and install them on a Trend network. Trend System Engineering Tool (SET) is used to configure controllers, map the network and demonstrate controller values and parameters.

Who will benefit This course is required for any person who is responsible for installing or maintaining a Trend system. It is also useful to those who need to know the range of Trend products or how an IQ controller operates. It is a pre-requisite for the software engineering course.

System Engineering Course Data Sheet Preparation and prerequisites The delegate should have completed a supervisor

Preparation and prerequisites The delegate should have completed a supervisor operator course or have experience of operating a Trend system. Since it is used as a training aid, it is advantageous to have experience of operating the 963 supervisor. Basic skills needed are keyboard and mouse operation, and experience in basic electrical circuit connection

In addition the delegate should have an appreciation of the Trend system, its purpose and functions. It is advantageous to understand binary numbers and boolean representation.

Self-Assessment

Keyboard & Mouse

1. Be able to type all the letters without difficulty.

2. Be familiar with the following terms and their use: return, carriage return, enter, shift key, control shift key, and arrow keys.

3. Be able to co-ordinate the movement of the mouse and the cursor on the screen and to hold the mouse steady while pressing the button to make a selection. This is equivalent to selecting a command button in Windows.

Electrical Knowledge

4. To be able to connect a simple circuit of battery, switch, and buzzer, so that the buzzer can be operated by the switch.

5. To understand the terms polarity, dc, ac, voltage, current, potential, conduction, baud rate, digital, analogue, fuse, earthing, cable screen, thermistor, relay, neutral, live, earth, short circuit, opto-isolator.

Attendees will receive a certificate upon completion of the course and a paper copy of the course notes.
