Built by Pacassa studios, a local woodworking and architecture firm, the display cases at the very center of the new building of the Magnes help to highlight thematic selections from the permanent collection. every year, curators of the Magnes will collaborate with uC Berkeley faculty, graduate students and visiting scholars in creating collectionbased case studies. For Case Study I, the staff of the Magnes took pleasure in discovering and re-encountering art and artifacts that were packed away in storage during the construction and collection move. For the first time, the Magnes is able to store and make accessible nearly threequarters of its collection on-site, making new connections and interpretations possible.
