Wegmans Grand Opening

Im proud to announce the addition of Wegmans Grocery Store to District Two residents and Howard Countians. Excitement is mounting for the June 2012 opening which will bring more than 70,000 products and create approximately 700 new jobs. I hope you will join me in welcoming them to our community and visit their location off Snowden River Parkway.

SHA has experienced major lighting infrastructure problems at each of the HC interchanges along I-95 that goes beyond routine maintenance operations and must be upgraded. SHA recently awarded a contract for this work with a scheduled Notice to Proceed date of January 2012.

After years of careful planning and community involvement, Im proud to announce that Phase I of Blandair Park will open on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 9:30am. Phase I will include: 3 lighted, synthetic turf multi-purpose fields, 1 playground, 1 shelter, 1 restroom and 1 parking lot. Come join me as I celebrate with fellow elected officials and community members the positive benefits this park will bring to our neighborhood and schools.

Shipleys Grant Traffic Signal

In an effort to improve the safety of residents travelling along Rt 108 near the Shipleys Grant community, construction of a new traffic signal is underway. First, the road will need to be slightly widened and new road markings will need to be painted. The contractor is in the process of completing necessary road work for the signal and intersection to be functional. Given weather conditions, completion is expected late spring 2012.

Rt 29 Widening Project
The Rt 29 NB widening project research is currently underway. SHA has divided this project into two phases: Phase I will include the section of Rt 29 N of Rt 32 ending at Rt 175 and phase II will extend from the Middle Patuxent River to just north of Rt 32 encompassing the Rivers Edge intersection. Its important to note that this project has NOT received funding for construction. Therefore, there is no estimated time to begin or complete construction. Ill keep you informed as additional information becomes available.

Thank You For Following Along!

I hope you have found this information useful. If there are any projects you would like to see included within this newsletter, please email me at cbball@howardcountymd.gov.

Lynwood Shopping Center Traffic Light Camera

Many residents have shared concerns with my office on the camera affixed to the traffic light at the Lynwood Shopping Center. Our Department of Public Works would like to advise citizens that this camera does not have a recording function and cannot see images. Its function is purely related to the flow of traffic. It is sensor based so as to signal for when the light should change from red to green and therefore work to minimize wait times at the traffic light. If you have additional questions, please call Kris Jagarapu at 410-313-5753 or email KJagarapu@howardcountymd.gov.

All the best,

Calvin Ball
