The objective of the four-year Bachelor of Science in Electronic and Communication Engineering (ECE) program is to develop skilled and competent graduates who can use Electronic and Communication Engineering tools to meet up the current and future needs at home and abroad as well as to perform further studies. Rapid development in the fields of electronic and communication over the last decade has made Electronics and Communication Engineering an emerging field of specialization. Modern communication systems, such as the Internet, mobile telephones and digital TV, are bringing a revolution in the lives of business and individuals. The global economy relies increasingly on high-speed data transfer and other digital data networks interconnecting computers and other digital devices across the world. All aspects of business, from research and development to production, marketing and sales are being benefited from the rapid advances in such technology. Academic qualification for admission into this program: The admission to this program will depend on the satisfactory result in the University admission test held approximately four weeks before beginning of the semester. The minimum qualifications for admission are: Candidates must have science background with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in S.S.C & H.S.C. level from General Education Board or Fazil & Alim level from Madrasa Education Board. Candidates should have at least Second division at both S.S.C & H.S.C. or equivalent degrees from Madrasa Education Board, or Minimum Grade C in 2 subjects at A- level with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics and 5 GCE O-level subjects. Candidates having less than grade 2.5 in any individual subject of S.S.C. or H.S.C. or equivalent Grade from Madrasa Board will not be eligible for getting admission into the University. Academic Year and Semesters: English calendar year is the academic year and this year is divided in to three Semesters as stated below: Name of the Semester Spring (Semester 1) Summer (Semester 2) Fall (Semester 3) Vacations and Breaks Total Starts Ends January to Mid-May Mid-May to Mid-August Mid-August to December All over the year Weeks 18 12 18 04 52

The Summer Semester is short but intensive. A fewer number of course are offered in the Summer Semester. Schedule of classes: A regular Semester of 18 weeks is utilized as follows: Classes Exam Preparation Final Exam Publication of Result Registration for the next Semester Total 14 Weeks 01Week 01Week 01Week 01 Week 18 Weeks

Examination Procedure and Marks Distribution: MIU follows the uniform Grading System guided by Bangladesh UGC. Each theory course caries 100 marks. Out of the total marks allotted to each theory course, 20 marks are for class test/assignment/oral tests, 30 marks for mid-term examination (during mid-term examination class will continue) and 50 marks for the final examination. Out of 100 marks for Laboratory /Sessional courses, 50 marks is allotted for continuous assessment by the Class Teacher and 50 marks for practical examination, viva, quiz etc. at the end of Semester final examination.

Marks distribution 'for project/thesis and general viva-voce is as follows i) Project/Thesis evaluation by Supervisor ii) Project/Thesis evaluation by Examiner iii) General Viva-Voce Total 35 35 30 100

The Credit Hours System at MIU: To bring the academic system into international standard, MIU follows Open Credit Hour System based on a quantified curriculum, whereby a certain number of credit hours are assigned to each course. Students are required to complete successfully to the total number of credit hours stipulated in this program in order to graduate. The number of credit hours assigned to each course denotes the academic load that a student carries while registering for the course. Therefore, a course that carries One Credit Hour normally has one contact hour per week (i.e.14 contact hours per Semester). However practical courses that carry one and half credit hour has three contact hours per week and the credit of 0.75 has three contact hours in every alternate week. Duration of Study: This Bachelor Program normally takes Four Academic Years (each academic year is divided into three Semesters i.e. 12 Semesters) to complete. Maximum period within which a student may be allowed to complete this Bachelor Program in the University is six academic years (i.e. 18 Semesters). Program Structure: Bachelor of Science in Electronic and Communication Engineering primarily involves the study of a number of core courses which every electronic and communication engineer should know and a significant number of courses from specialized areas. Although this program is a specialized one, still there are scope for optional courses in the final year for the students to choose other subjects of further interest. Core courses build the foundation and specialized courses prepare the students for the specific areas of Electronic and Communication engineering. To understand the under pinning theory of the courses of Electronic and Communication Engineering, a number of courses on Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering have been felt mandatory to include in the syllabus. This undergraduate curriculum is designed in such a way that after graduation the graduates will obtain a reasonable amount of general knowledge about humanities subjects and they will acquire a good communication skill in English as well. The curriculum includes a good number of university required courses, known as General Education Course (GED). Areas of the GED courses include Linguistics (English and Arabic), Liberal Arts and Islamic Studies. In addition some courses on Economics, Management and Accounting have been incorporated to make the syllabus balanced and reasonable. Degree Requirements: In order to get a Bachelor of Science in Electronic and Communication Engineering degree, a student is required to complete a minimum of 148 credit hours successfully; which includes some extra elective courses for wider specialization. A minimum CGPA of 2.25 on the scale of 4.00 is required for obtaining this degree. The distribution of the credit hours are as follows: Summary of Courses: Serial Number 1 2 3 4 5 Type of Courses Writing (General Education) General Education (GED) Basic Science Mathematics Inter-disciplinary No. of theory Course 3 4 2 4 6 No. of Credit 9 12 7 12 15
