Subsea production
The deeper the water, the farther from shore, the higher the risk. As the subsea environment gets tougher, the costs associated with even the simplest of operations rise exponentially. You need subsea equipment to be robust and reliable in order to protect the environment and your investment. So, although the seabed may be new territory for the equipment, your well is no place for experimentation.
Systems integration
Fundamental to the success of any subsea development is the ability to ensure that mission-critical components will work together when installed and be reliable for the duration of their service life. To do this, we fully evaluate the Technology Readiness Level of all the diverse components and put effective mitigation programs in place to keep the project on track. The process must also be reviewed to ensure system and flow assurance capabilities for the expected field life. It is an immense and intricate puzzle that must be solved before entering the water. Our process begins even before the contract award as part of Front End Engineering and Development (FEED) studies and continues seamlessly throughout execution.

Subsea separation
The VetcoGray portfolio includes Troll C, the worlds first commercially scaled pilot subsea separation and boosting station. Installed in 1999, this module has been in commercial production since 2001 and is one of the building blocks upon which subsequent projects have been based. More of our leading-edge separation technologies are used in the subsea versions of IEC (In-line Electrostatic Coalescer), Vessel Internal Electrostatic Coalescer (VIEC) and Low Water Content Coalescer (LOWACC). These products enable more efficient and cost-effective oil/water separation, resulting in shorter residence time and more compact separators for deepwater applications. The VIEC is especially effective on high-viscosity fluids and has now been installed on a number of topside applications to reduce weight and solve emulsion problems. Our designs are all simple, robust and reliable for long life and unattended operations with means for easy and fast intervention.
Subsea processing
The VetcoGray separation and boosting solution is a field-proven method to increase production and recover more oil. It is also the solution to meet increasingly challenging field developments including longer step-out, deeper fields, higher boost, unstable operational conditions and higher performance. Our technologies and services are derived from extensive research and development initiatives, onshore testing, field testing and operational feedback. GE Oil & Gas, Drilling & Production is both a system and product supplier and provides services for a full assessment of field developments to identify the total value of subsea processing and the technology requirements.
Subsea compression
After several years of significant investment and development efforts, GEs BlueC technology was selected for a significant subsea gas compression project in the North Sea and installed in 2006. BlueC followed our risk-reducing evolutionary approach to new technologies based on our GE Oil & Gas gas compressors, which are familiar and trusted equipment on many offshore platforms around the world.
Subsea pumping
The first subsea multi-phase pump was installed in 1992 at the Prezioso field in Italy using GE Oil & Gas twin screw technology (NPV 70). This was a world record for subsea multi-phase boosting. It is recognized by GE and our customers that future field developments around the world will require more sophisticated subsea boosting technology to accommodate higher boosting capabilities. These capabilities relate to more differential pressure, larger variations in Gas Volume Fraction, operations with heavier oils and improved sand tolerance. As a result , we have undertaken an extensive development program focused on increasing the technology's versatility and robustness. The advanced pump will be tested in full scale and submerged conditions with qualification for subsea use in 2010.

Tree systems
VetcoGray tree systems are designed from standard building block components to meet the exacting requirements of developments in depths ranging from 100 to 10,000 ft. We have supplied more than 900 subsea tree systems globally and have a significant installed base in every major production basin. Our portfolio covers all applications from shallow-water, single-well satellites through to major deepwater developments. Products are suitable for low pressure reservoirs requiring artificial stimulation or lift through to high-pressure high-temperature applications. Configurations include simple diver assist shallow water mudline trees (TOM) up to drill-through and deepwater guidelineless horizontal trees (HT) and vertical or conventional trees. Our designs accommodate reservoir shut-in conditions of 350F and 15,000 psi and, in the other extreme, provide facilities for electrical or hydraulic submersible pumping systems (ESP / HSP), or artificial lift by gas or water. VetcoGray trees are designed to accommodate our full range of choke products, which can be configured for production, water or gas injection (lift), or chemical injection services. installed within the treehead, heavy (tubing retrieval) workover can be achieved without the need to recover the tree system. ROV based flowline and umbilical connections are made directly to the tree assembly so there is no requirement for guidebase or flowbase. Our S series shallow-water horizontal trees are usually deployed on guidelines in water depths up to 1,640 ft from an anchored semi-submersible drilling rig. Because the tubing hanger is installed within the treehead heavy (tubing retrieval), workover can be achieved without the need to recover the tree system. The tubing hanger is installed within the tubing spool which necessitates retrieval of the tree in the event of heavy (tubing retrieval) workover. The S Series shallow-water 5x2" conventional tree system is usually deployed on guidelines in water depths up to 1,640 ft from an anchored semi-submersible drilling rig, typically utilizing a flowbase configuration so that the tree can be retrieved without disturbing the flowlines. The tubing hanger is installed within the wellhead systems which necessitates retrieval of the tree in the event of heavy (tubing retrieval) workover.

Connection systems
VetcoGray subsea connection systems feature diverless connectors and tooling systems to meet various application requirements. Our designs are based on three main connector types: clamp, collet and mandrel. The majority of systems use the clamp connector in a vertical (VCCS) or horizontal (HCCS) configuration. They are designed for single bore, dual bore and multibore applications, and are available in line sizes of 4-42" (HCCS) and 4-16" (VCCS). The different connectors can be operated with or without ancillary connection tooling, pending configuration and application. Our portfolio includes ROV tooling and ROTS systems, designed to provide pull-in, connection, cleaning and seal replacements support.

Subsea power
All our advances in subsea processing and boosting would be meaningless without equally reliable high-voltage power and distribution systems. Therefore, over the last decade, we have developed a highly skilled and experienced team in subsea power transmission system design delivering all major components for the total system solution (EPC contract). All products are designed using high voltage principals to achieve a robust and reliable design. Many of our subsea power products are being qualified for water depths up to approximately 10,000 ft.
Subsea switchgear
A high-voltage module for 24kV/500A full-load switching is currently undergoing qualification procedures. The subsea switchgear enables one cable from shore to be split to feed several power consumers and separately disconnect each one.
