Ontario is further investing in Brampton Civic Hospital


McGuinty Government Provides Additional Post Construction Operating Funding To William Osler Health System
NEWS March 5, 2010

Ontario is further investing in the Brampton Civic Hospital so that patients have improved access to hospital services following the completion of the new hospital. The McGuinty government is providing additional post construction operating funding of $20 million to William Osler Health System to support increased patient care services at the hospital this fiscal year. This funding will support an overall 10 per cent increase in inpatient days and a 20 per cent increase in outpatient clinic and ambulatory visits from the previous year. Since the hospital opened in October 2007, the government has provided more than $110 million in post-construction operating funding which has helped improve access to a broad range of inpatient health services, emergency care and outpatient programs for the residents of Brampton and surrounding communities QUOTES This funding demonstrates in a meaningful way how committed our Government is to quality health care in our community. The additional funds will allow the hospital to expand services in inpatient care and Ambulatory Care ensuring more people get access to the care they need, when they need it, Hon. Linda Jeffrey MPP (Brampton Springdale) who was joined at the announcement by fellow area MPPs Amrit Mangat, Dr. Kuldip Kular and Vic Dhillon. Residents served by Brampton Civic Hospital can continue to have confidence that the services they need will be available as our communities continue to grow. This funding is an important recognition that the local health system is being developed to meet the needs of the families and individuals who expect access to excellent health care.

Brampton Civic, like all newly built hospitals in the province, follows a careful post construction operating plan to ramp up resources to meet current and future community needs. QUICK FACTS Including more than $110 million in PCOP funding, William Osler Health System has received more than $166 million in increased base funding since 2003/04 a 68% increase. Brampton Civic has seen an increase in inpatient days and in ambulatory care service volumes this fiscal year: o o o o o Emergency department visits increased by 20 per cent over last year, now topping 100,000 this year Visits to paediatric outpatient clinics increased 24 per cent Oncology clinic volumes increased 27 per cent Cardiac clinic volumes increased 77 per cent Mental health and general medical surgery outpatient volumes increased 19 per cent

Brampton Civic is now fully funded to operate the additional beds it has opened in rehabilitation, complex continuing care, general medicine/surgery and surge beds to accommodate increasing volumes in emergency.
