Outreach Team Leader Job Description

OVERVIEW This purpose of this position is to carry out The Relief Bus outreach to the poor and homeless in New York City and New Jersey. Direct supervision would be by the Director of Outreach, Josiah Haken. Preparation Daily duties would include preparing soup and beverages, loading vehicles with supplies and food. Part of food preparation includes directing volunteers in how to prepare the food. Volunteer Training Volunteers who come receive an orientation either at our base or at the outreach location. As an Outreach Team Leader you will be briefing teams daily on the outreach, giving them rules and tips on how to participate in the outreach. Volunteer Oversight During the outreach, the Outreach Team Leader will oversee the volunteers as the distribute food, clothing, build friendships with people on the streets and pray for the hurting. The Outreach Team Leaders is responsible for the overall safety of the volunteers during the outreach. Connections During the outreach, people will need to meet with you as the Outreach Team Leader to get connected to resources such as shelter, job info, detox, rehab, etc. You will be responsible for interviewing them and writing referrals to meet that specific need with an appropriate resource. Ministry The Outreach Team Leader will regularly encourage people who come to The Relief Bus by sharing the gospel, listening to people in need and loving those who are hurting. Outreach Team Leaders regularly pray for those who come to the bus. Community All staff participates in regular Tuesday morning meetings for times of worship, prayer, discipleship and business meetings. These are key times of community building, deepening of relationship and accountability that create a culture of interdependence. Personal Fundraising Team members raise their own support to work at New York City Relief as urban missionaries. Prior to coming on staff, new candidates create a target budget along with our leadership team. They are sent to a two-day training with an outside organization, The Bodybuilders (http://thebodybuilders.net). After completion of the training, they implement their fundraising strategy. New York City Relief provides a staff person to serve as a coach and support person during that period. After raising 80% of their target budget, new staff members come on board

officially as Associate Staff. They raise the remaining 20% while serving on staff in their respective positions. This has been used successfully with all of our new staff. Remuneration New single staff members receive a monthly housing allowance of $300, or receive housing in a staff apartment. Married staff members receive a monthly housing allowance of $600. After one year, team members enter regular Staff status and are eligible to receive a monthly stipend and medical insurance. Schedule Work schedule for this position is TuesdaySaturday. When leading day outreaches the schedule is 7:30am-4pm. When leading night outreaches the schedule is approximately 2:00pm-10:30pm. Parameters for Relief Bus Staff Consideration Concerning the following parameters, the applicant must have a proven track record in these areas and be able to show verifiable references. This does not mean that the applicant would have to have a perfect level of achievement, but they should have attained a considerable amount of success in the areas listed below. 1. 2. 3. Teamwork- Is the person able to work in harmony as part of a team? Are they able to resolve conflict? Past experience- Has the person done this kind of work before? Leadership capacity- Can the person train, mentor, coordinate, supervise or oversee others? Key needed skills- Does the person have unique skills that are vital to our organization? Problem solving skills- Can the person navigate and overcome challenges or obstacles? Sobriety- Does the person have victory in areas of life controlling addictions? House in order- Is there stability in the management of the family life, marriage and children? Are finances, budgeting and money management in order?

Support raising agreement- Is the person willing to be trained in fundraising and finally, able to raise enough personal support before and during time of service to sustain his/her personal/family budget? 12. Ability to produce- Is the person able to contribute significantly overall to the organization?

Self-starter- Is the person proactive in finding what needs to be done and doing it without being instructed? 17. Development Specialist Job Description


OVERVIEW This purpose of this position is to expand the area of development at New York City Relief, specifically focusing on grants, volunteer follow-up and church partner development. The President will directly oversee this position. Grants Duties would include grant writing, grant research, and communicating with foundations. Training will be provided in these areas through staff and outside resources. Volunteer Follow up Duties would include following up with the many volunteers who serve on The Relief Bus every year in order to connect them to giving opportunities such as: fundraising events, monthly giving, end-of-the-year giving. Church Partnership Duties would include building relationships with church leadership and missions committees in order to establish financial partnerships. The Relief Bus All staff regularly participates in The Relief Bus outreach. The Development Specialist would go out on The Relief Bus twice a month.
