Basel I
It is created in 1988 by the Basel committee in Basel in Switzerland. It sets the minimum requirements of capital for banks. It also known as Basel accord. It was enforced by the law in group of ten (G-10) countries in 1992.Figure Error! Main Document

Following are the main purpose of Basel I are as follow. y Strengthen the stability of international banking sectors. y Decreases the competitive inequality among international banking banks. Basel I sets a definition of a bank capital which is now a days known as capital ratio.

Tier I (core capital) - it includes share holders equity and declared reserves (loan loss reserves).
Tier II (supplementary capital) all others capital such as gain on investment assets, long term debts maturity more than five years and hidden reserves
A set of international banking regulations put forth by the Basel Committee on Bank Supervision, which set out the minimum capital requirements of financial institutions with the goal of minimizing credit risk. It is the second Basel accord. Issued by Basel committee on banking supervision. It is published in June 2004 to creation international standards for banking regulators to control how much capital bank need to put asides to guard against types of financial and operational risk banks.
