RASHEED BRAND

HE R ITAGE A ND NAT U R E U NIT E D

Heritage and environment preservation by implementing sustainable projects as available resources are used for achieving ecological balance.

OBJECTIVES:
1- Linking Rasheed with other city of the

world
2- Reviving river Tourism 3- Reviving historical Rasheed. Figure 1: illustrate the arrangement of the projects to reach the optimum brand achievement

PA L M R E S E A RC H INSTITUTE
On 110 Fadden, a palm research institute has been designed in a modern outflow to be located in Rasheed city. This institute will be located at Abu Mandour Dune a beautiful area where tourists come and enjoy at mandour dune and see fields of palm trees. Figure 1: Strategic Plan for rasheed Branding This research institute strength is interdisciplinary focusing on performing researches on palms as genetic modification, seed improvement, a more complete understanding of palm Also it will focus on improving the products derived from palms, handcrafts & oils extracted used in medical treatment.

I.

Site Issue
a- Informal settlements are removed on the palm area to retain back the agriculture area. b- Relocating the car route between the palm and urban area to prevent the expansion on the palm area c- Introducing the waterfront as an recreational; sustainable area for rasheed people d- Parking areas are located in negative pressure areas while building and outdoor sitting areas are placed in the positive pressure area. e- The use of trees and shrubs in controlling the direction and speed of air entering the building.

1- SITE DESIGN:

1- LANDSCAPING:
Approximately 80 % of site is greens and water for good air quality and decrease of the % of carbon gas.

II. Water Issue

WATER USE REDUCTION STRATEGIES INCLUDED:
a-

Wetlands

are used for Treatment of grey-water for purposes such as toilet flushing, garden irrigation and for fire protection(fig.3

Figure 3: Wetland system

b- Installing an irrigation control system to reduce overwatering. c- Water cycle for drinkable and treated grey water

III. Buildings design Issue

1-

Building plan Design:

Most of the buildings plan is based on four or five stories units, which are connected by an inner court which enters breezeway. The breezeway is designed to facilitate cross ventilation through the house, and admit daylight into the center of the building(fig,4.

2- Passive heating and cooling in the buildings

Buildings are planned to maintain a comfortable temperature, using passive heating and cooling. The main strategies are: planning for stack and cross ventilation, reducing midday and afternoon solar gains, and insulating the roof against heat gains and losses. The s uccess of the natural ventilation strategy has eliminated the need for air conditioning, significantly reducing the total energy requirements of the building.

a- Natural light
Daylight levels have been maximized, without admitting excessive solar gains. This was achieved by optimizing the window size, selecting a glass type which maximizes light transmission, and locating windows to control heat gains while maximizing light admission .

b- Lighting
Lighting is predominantly long life, low energy fluorescent bulbs. This not only reduces the energy consumed by lighting, but also reduces the heat load. The lighting design strategy was to localize switching as much as possible. This allows small areas to be lit, at any given time, further reducing the energy consumed by lighting.

c- Solar hot water

Hot water is supplied by an electricity boosted solar hot water system from the solar panels located in the ground. 5
