Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what Gods will is his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 (NIV) AFFORDABLE CHRIST-CENTERED CAMPING FOR MEN AND BOYS

Wilderness Ridge was founded in 1987 by a group of Christian men who wanted to give boys an exceptional camping experience at an affordable price. An experience that would introduce them to Jesus Christ, as well as show and teach them how to be Godly men in todays world. Seven acres in the Lost Pines Forest were purchased near Smithville, Texas. Over the years, the camp has grown to our present 95 acres where we continue to keep the legacy of affordable, Christ-centered wilderness camping for boys and men alive. The Bastrop Complex Wildres, September 4 - 6, burned 24 of the 26 structures to the ground plus our high/low ropes courses and archery and rie ranges. The CWR Board of Directors has unanimously and enthusiastically re-afrmed our commitment to the mission and ministry of Camp Wilderness Ridge: Low Cost, Christ Centered Camping for Men and Boys. We have committed ourselves to moving forward in restoring the camps ability to operate the summer camp programs and to facilitate the programs of our guest churches.

The Journey Be REAL!

Dear Parent, Your son will experience Gods natural world at Wilderness Ridge! It is our desire to encourage campers to live a REAL life in Jesus Christ. REAL is an acrostic for Reproducing Other Disciples
Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Esteeming God Above All

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. (Mark 12:30)

Announcing the Good News Living for Others

He told them, This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Luke 24:46-47) For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45)

We are teaching, through example and experiences, how to resist the notion of self-centeredness that is evident in todays modern culture. To do as Jesus did: For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45) We intertwine a Christ-likeness perspective, attitude, and approach to life in everything we do during the camp week. Its a fast-paced outdoor adventure with activities designed to teach teamwork, servanthood, and trust. Rope Course challenges, Leadership/Teamwork Challenges, and even Cabin Clean-up are just a few examples of Biblical manhood that your son will experience. Your son will actively engage with hands-on opportunities to solve problems, make decisions, use his imagination, and participate in safe and controlled risk-taking experiences. We continue to lead boys to Christ Jesus...helping them face The Journey. The Journey begins when Christ Jesus becomes the Lord of a persons life. Wilderness Ridge is located west of Smithville, Texas, among the tall pine trees of the Lost Pines Forest, in Gods incredible creation! We are excited about partnering with you to encourage your boys and young men on their spiritual journey. This camp will challenge your courage, problemsolving abilities, physical strength, endurance, leadership ability, awareness, and will have a lifechanging impact on spiritual commitment and growth. The week includes experiencing an overnight canoe trip down the Colorado River and a Survival Hike. There are discussions on the unique challenges young men face in todays world. Well talk about how to Get REAL and ask the question, How do we live counter to todays typical American Culture? The answer: Be on your guard; stand rm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love (I Cor. 16: 13 14). After every teaching time, there will be some time for campers to reect and process what he has experienced. These are often the times that God does His best work! Servant-Leaders (Counselors) lead a group of young men (up to 8 guys). Servant-Leaders are chosen because they are committed to always strive to reect God in everything they do. One of our recent Servant-Leaders put it this way, My lifestyle is a testimony of Jesus Christ. While this program is meant to take you out of your perceived comfort zone, we realize that not every young man is an athlete. No one will ever be pressured to participate in any activity in which he feels uncomfortable. This program is about meeting personal challenges of the individual, perseverance, accomplishment, and team building. Young menCome take your next step spiritually.

Servant and Leadership Trainee Program (SALT ages 14 -17)

You are the SALT of the earth. Jesus to His followers, Matthew 5:13 (NIV) Prerequisite: At least one summer as a camper at Camp Wilderness Ridge or another, similar, Christian summer camp. This is negotiable based upon equivalant experience. WHO? Young men 14 17 years old may apply and will be considered upon demonstrated commitment to: Love Jesus and put him rst. Love kids and desires to inuence them in Christ. Love the outdoors and use it to teach the guys about Christ. SALTees are expected to uphold camp policies and rules, behavior expectations and accomplish assigned responsibilities with a positive attitude, on schedule, and with excellence, remembering they are not campers but staffers.

WHAT? Serving others and ministering the love of Christ at camp will be done through camp maintenance, general work, and upkeep (activities set-up and clean-up, food preparation, dishwashing, and other support needs). Your day will begin with a focused, solo quiet time and group devotional. SALTees showing exceptional leadership abilities and a strong work ethic may also be chosen to work with a Servant-Leader (Counselor) to lead a group of 8 campers throughout the week, including staying in their cabin, a sort of Junior Counselor position. Note: Servant-Leader is a man (ages 18 +) trained to be responsible for supervising a group of 8 campers, during the week, and staying in a cabin with them.

www.wildernessridge.com

WHY? Jesus said, Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be rst must be your slave just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (Matthew 20: 26-28) By following the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, you impact the lives of many campers, youth, adults and other peers through your commitment. You gain an understanding of what it means to be a servants servant. Campers lives could not be changed without SALTees doing their part. Selection to be a SALTee is based upon a personal interview, reference responses, and performance related to all training requirements (on-line and on-site). HOW? First, pray about what is God leading you to do this summer, then if led, go to: www.wildernessridge.com/staff-opportunities/ There is no charge to serve as a SALTee. You can volunteer (meet volunteer credits) or choose to be compensated or both. It is the policy of Camp Wilderness Ridge (CWR) that SALTees put together his own prayer and nancial support team to cover his weekly compensation. Compensation targets are: $100 to $215 per week depending on the persons experience and the camps needs. COMMITMENT? SALTees are expected to commit to a minimum of two consecutive weeks of service. There will be on-line training to complete in a timely manner and Summer Staff Training June 3-6 is required The rst week at camp you need to arrive on Saturday for a training session that will start at promptly 3 p.m. Camp sessions end on Friday evening following the Family Dinner and camp wrap-up ceremonies. You are expected to stay and help put up, clean-up, and prepare for the next camp session.

FAQs
How does my son request a specic cabin mate? He may request up to two cabin mates of the same age range on the registration form. The request must
be made in advance, and with mutual consent of both parties. Parents Note: Please consider that if your son is with the same friends he is with all the time, he may not feel the freedom to be himself. Also, groups of three or more buddies tend to alienate other cabin mates.

How do I communicate with my son while hes at camp? Campers enjoy getting letters and cards in the mail while at camp.

In addition, we provide a free e-mail service for you to send email to your son during his week but communication is only one-way and he will not be able to respond. Please, no phone calls to your camper. Even the most content camper will feel a sense of homesickness after a phone call from home. In the event of an emergency, please call the Camp Ofce at 512-237-4222. Please DO NOT send gum, food, drinks, reworks, candy, or silly string. We appreciate your help as food or drinks are not allowed in cabins because they draw critters and ants. You are welcome to leave a care-package in the camp ofce at the time of drop off. We will be happy to deliver it to him mid-week! While campers do enjoy letters, please be aware that too much detail can create homesickness. Keep them short and positive!

Can I send a care package to my son? Certainly, campers love getting something from home, but remember hes only here a week.

What about my sons spending money? This years camp price already includes a daily afternoon Canteen snack (Gatorade, a candy, and a salty item). What should my son pack for camp? A detailed list is available at our website: www.wildernessridge.com. If you do not have Internet access, then call us to request a copy to be mailed to you. Just remember, the most important things are old clothes, socks, closed-toe shoes (two pair), swim suit, toiletries, bedding (sleeping bag is recommended), pillow, etc. Mark all items with his last name. What should my son NOT bring to camp? Snacks and other food items, CD/MP3 player, cell phone, Gameboys or other electronic games, guns, bows & arrows, or anything expensive or illegal. If these items make it to camp, they will be conscated and returned to a parent or guardian upon departure. Illegal materials will be reported to the police department.

What will you be sharing with my child in your Bible messages and quiet times? Through morning devotions, daily Bible Study, skits/dramas and

campre gatherings, we will share many different stories and lessons from the Bible. At least once during the week we will present the Gospel, which means that we share with campers that God loves us and wants a relationship with us (John 3: 16), we are all sinners (Romans 3: 23), Jesus came to save us from our sins, (1 Timothy 1:15), and all we have to do to be saved from our sins is to put our trust in Jesus Christ (Romans 10: 9). We do not pressure campers to make any spiritual decision

Do you have Scholarship funds? Yes, we do have scholarships available. Please contact Ron Hunt (ron@wildernessridge.com) for information.
