Pollution in Bangladesh Introduction

Bangladesh is apparently now in the grip of all sorts of pollution, like air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution and what not. Dwellers of the urban areas are the worst sufferers. The indiscriminate industrialization process in Bangladesh over the past decades has created significant environmental problems. Among the most significant is the enormous volume of solid waste which is being produced every day but not be disposed properly. The mismanagement of the solid wasted, particularly the polythene shopping bag has caused serious threat to the soil, public health, and drainage system in the cities. The drainage system is about to collapse, About five to six feet of polythene layers have developed at places at the bottom of many rivers and other water bodies. As a non-biodegradable environmental hazard it has already wreaked havoc in public sanitation, not to speak of the irreparable damage its further use could inevitably bring to our life system. Environmental Engineering deals with the study of the technical processes, which can be used for minimizing pollution and environmental impact. Environmental engineering creates the capability of practical application of environmental studies in the real life. T

Properties of polythene: Polythene is a compound element. How to fight the problem:The environment and forest Ministry says the total number of polythene factories will not be over 800. Polymers of long chains of homogenous hydrocarbon molecules are the chemical components of plastic or polythene. has taken many steps in Districts, sub districts and even Unions. Hence the the environmental engineer has a superior role than any other to act on, in this battle against polythene. In Bangladesh two recyclable chemical compounds-propylene and polythene are used in making polythene. Irrespective of physical and chemical composition of solid wastes all types of solid wastes are dumped together. Jute is made of cellulose and legume, which are biodegradable thus making the fibre extremely environment friendly. Thus jute has the potentiality to replace several expensive fibres and scarce resources. Private sectors can be encouraged to produce alternatives to polythene bags that are cheap, available, durable, comfortable and economic. More investment has to be made in research to find methods to produce better quality jute. Polymers provide polythene with improvement in rigidity and flexibility, toughness, scuff and heat resistance and clarity. The debut of Polythene in Bangladesh: Since 1970"tms production and use of polythene went its peak through out the world. Its melting point is 120 centigrade to 130 centigrade. Black polythene bags are very popular in Bangladesh.
