Metal clad thermocouples provide accurate temperature measurement and control in rigorous and harsh conditions. A metal clad thermocouple consists of thermocouple wires embedded in an insulating refractory material surrounded by a seamless protective metal sheath, which protects the thermocouple against corrosion, oxidation and contamination. All thermocouple wire used in the manufacture of metal clad thermocouples complies to Class 1 tolerance for type R & S and Class 2 for type B as detailed in IEC 584-2 (equivalent to BS EN 60584-1) based on the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS 90). Metal clad thermocouples supplied by Johnson Matthey are calibrated against traceable standards at 1000C, other calibration temperatures and UKAS certification can be provided on request from our accredited laboratory. There are several advantages of using mineral insulated metal clad thermocouples: Stability - as the thermoelements are protected from oxidation and corrosive environmental conditions so the EMF characteristics remain very stable. Flexibility - all metal clad thermocouples are supplied fully annealed, unless otherwise requested, and so have the potential to be bent and formed without adversely affecting the performance, so that they can be used in hard to reach areas. Rapid Response - vital for accurate process control. Pressure Tight - The sheath offers protection from aggressive environments and can withstand high external pressure. Resistant to mechanical / thermal shock and chemical / atmospheric attack.
