Protestant Reformation

Karee Wicks Senior Individual Website

Karee Wicks Protestant Reformation Process Paper I picked my topic because I was very interested in it. Last Spring my confirmation class watched a movie about Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation. We discussed it in class, but I still wanted to learn more about it. This year, I was really excited when I found out the NHD theme because I already knew what I was going to do. I decided to do my project on the Protestant Reformation. I did a lot of research for my project. First, I just looked into the Reformation itself and what all happened in it. I was on Google a lot, just trying to find good sites to use. Then I researched some of the key Reformers like Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon. I found a lot of their writings and I even read through some of the translations. While I was finding information about Luther I also found out about John Wycliffe. He wasnt a reformer from 1517; he was from the late 1300s, but he still helped to reform the Church. I decided to broaden my topic zone to include some of the history behind it, and to talk about the Reformation as a whole. People had been questioning the Catholic Church for over 200 years before Martin Luther. After I researched the Reformers, I was curious about some of the pictures I had seen. I started looking into Reformation Art and there were some pretty interesting paintings. I decided to do a website for my project. I did this because I thought it would go with my project better than anything else. At first, I was thinking about an exhibit, but I was worried that I would go over the word limit. I thought a website would work well with my pictures, too. Another reason I wanted to do a website was because I thought it would be fun. I hadnt done one before, so I thought it would be interesting to learn about. My project definitely fits in with the NHD theme. The Reformation was a major

Karee Wicks Protestant Reformation change back then. No one had ever attempted to disagree with the Catholic Church, so it was a big thing when someone did. Martin Luther started something huge! He was trying to change the whole church itself, which was a very hard task. The Catholic Church was spread over all Europe, and it held a ton of power. Even kings didnt do anything without asking the permission of the Pope first. Eventually, Luther ended up breaking off into a different church called Lutheranism. The Catholic Church still took what he said to heart, though. They are very different now than they were in 1517. My topic caused a major change in the world, and thats why I think it fits in the NHD theme so well.
