Sr. INTER PHYSICS MODEL PAPER

INTERMEDIATE PUBLIC EXAMINATIONS, MARCH 2012

PHYSICS PAPER - II
TIME: 3 HOURS

(ENGLISH VERSION)
Max. MARKS: 60

15. State and explain Kirchhoff's laws.

16. Explain construction and working of Duddell's thermo
galvana meter.
17. What is Moseley's law? Discuss briefly its importance.

Section - A
Answer ALL questions. Each question carries TWO marks.
10 2 = 20
1. Define the magnetic moment of a bar magnet. What is its
direction?
2. Charged particle of mass m, charge q is placed in an electric
field of intensity E. Write down the equation for force and
acceleration on the particle.
3. What are ohmic and non ohmic devices? Give examples.
4. Write two differences between emf and p.d.
5. Define self induction, mutual induction.
6. A transformer converts 100V ac into 1000V ac. Calculate the
number of turns in the secondary if the primary has 10 turns.
7. What are de Broylie waves?
8. What is the role of a moderator in a nuclear reactor?
9. State any two properties of neutron?
10. Mention the basic methods of modulation.
Section - B
Answer any SIX of the following questions. Each question
carries FOUR marks.
6 4 = 24
11. Describe the construction and working of an optical fibre.
12. Mention some applications of diffraction.
13. Explain 'tanA' and 'tanB' positions of a reflection magneto
meter.
14. Derive the equation for the equivalent capacity when
capacitors are connected in series.

18. Calculate the energy released by the fission of 1gm of U235

in joules, given that the energy released per fission is
200Mev. (Avagadro number = 6.023 1023)
Section - C
Answer any TWO of the following questions. Each question
carries EIGHT marks.
2 8 = 16
19. What are 'Harmonics' and 'Overtones'? Derive the equations
for the frequencies of the harmonics and overtones produced
in an open pipe.
Find the frequencies of the first three harmonics of an open
pipe of length 1.65 m. given the velocity of sound in air is
equal to 330 ms-1.
20. How is a galvanameter converted into an ammeter? Why
parallel resistance is smaller than galvanameter resistance?
Explain.
A galvanameter of resistance 50 gives full scale deflection
-3
when a current 10 A is passed through it How can it be
converted into an ammeter to measure 0.5 A current?
21. What is rectifier? Explain the working of half wave and full
wave rectifiers with diagrams.
