Constitution of the Musicians United Student Organization

Purpose
We, the members of Musicians United, are dedicated to providing support to the musical ensembles on campus, and to promote these musical ensembles to the Santa Fe Student Body. In addition, we hope to be a forum for the expression of music student ideas, views and interests, and to provide a sense of community to our members.

Article 1
Declaration of Rights and Responsibilities
Section 1- Heirarchy of Law The provisions of this Constitution are governed by and subordinate to the constitution and laws of the State of Florida as well as the policies of the Board of Trustees, Santa Fe College, and the Student Body Constitution.

All political power granted by authorities authorized under the Constitution, laws, and regulations of the State of Florida is inherent in the membership. Section2- Rights 2.1Members have the right to: 2.1.1- Vote on any issue 2.1.2- Have their voice heard and their opinion respected 2.1.3- Elect and remove officers from position 2.1.4- Address the elected officials 2.1.5- Determine Rules and Procedures for Meetings 2.1.6- Determine the time and place of meetings, as long as meetings are held every two weeks

2.1.7- Enact any law necessary and proper to efficiently run the organization 2.1.8- Attend any event sponsored by the club for free 2.1.8.1- This is assuming the member has fundraised/paid their dues or is working to do so. 2.2Guests have the right to: 2.2.1- Have their voice heard and their opinion respected 2.2.2- Address the elected officials Section 3- Responsibilities 3.1- Community Responsibilities 3.1.1- All members recognize that they are part of the Santa Fe College community and the communities of Alachua-Bradford Counties, and that as such, they are subject to the rules and regulations set forth in the current student handbook, as well as national, state and city laws. As students, members realize that they represent the College at any time they are involved in official organization functions on or off campus, and agree to do so in a responsible manner. Furthermore, all members stress that the organization does not and will not participate in hazing activities as outlined in College Rule 7.23. 3.2- Members have the responsibility to: 3.2.1- Attend 75% of meetings 3.2.1.1- More meetings can be missed if cleared with the president and advisor. 3.2.1.2- A warning shall be given when the limits are being reached 3.2.1.3- The reason for this is to ensure each group is being represented in all meetings and in all considerations 3.2.2- Represent the voice of the students in the ensemble that they represent. 3.3- Guests have the responsibility to: 3.3.1- Respect the protocol of the Meeting

3.3.1- Respect any decision reached by the voting Members 3.3.3- Not speak to any campus official in the name of the club without first consulting with the advisor and a officer.

Article 2 Membership
Section 1- Membership Qualifications The club is open to all students of Santa Fe College, including students from the satellite centers. The club shall not discriminate against any student on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, creed, age, disability, marital status, political opinions or affiliations, or veteran status. Dues of $10 These dues can be fundraised at a number events hosted by the organization. The purpose of these dues is to ensure that everyone participates in club events. Section 2- Removal of Members 2.1Grounds for removal of members include: 2.1.12.1.22.2Violation of College Policy Violation of the Student Code of Conduct

A member may be removed by the following process: 2.2.1- A petition shall be submitted to the President containing the signatures of at least 20% of the voting members. When such a petition is received, the President shall call a meeting of the organization to decide upon removal. 2.2.2- The grounds for removal are to be presented by the President at a regular or special meeting of the organization. 2.2.3- The member in question shall be provided one week to present a defense either in person or in writing.

2.2.4- A 2/3 majority vote of the voting membership shall decide upon removal, with voting not to occur sooner than one week after the presentation of the grounds and defense have been made. There must be a quorum for the vote of removal.

Article 3 Officers and Cabinet Members


Section 1- Officer Provisions 1.1- The powers of leadership shall be vested in the positions of: 1.1.1- President 1.1.2- Vice President 1.1.3- Secretary 1.1.4- Treasurer 1.2- All officers must be a registered and enrolled student with a GPA of 2.0 or above during the entire term of office and at time of election. Incoming freshmen (those who not have previously attended a post-secondary institution or have no existing SFC grade point average) shall be exempt from the following qualifications requirements during the first academic semester in office or until a cumulative SFC grade point average has been established. 1.3 No one person shall hold more than one position in Section 1 1.4- All officers shall be given key access to the Club Office, located in S-Building 1.5- All officers shall attend weekly Officers Meeting, to be held separate from the organizations normally scheduled meeting

Section 2- Officer Powers The Powers and Responsibilities of the President shall be: Be the chief executive of the organization

Preside over meetings of the organization Serve as the liaison between the organization and the administrative offices. Appoint the presidential cabinet, committees or commissions that are deemed necessary. Call special meetings of the organization Meet weekly with advisor Write the agenda for the weekly meeting Take care that this constitution and the laws of the student body are faithfully executed. Fill out the Re-charter paperwork at the beginning of each school year Perform any administrative power or duty not provided for in this constitution The Powers and Responsibilities of the Vice President shall be: 2.2.1- Exercise presidential duties in absence of the president 2.2.2- Assume presidential office upon vacancy 2.2.3- Appoint staff aides as deemed necessary 2.2.4- Make sure event registration forms and program report forms are completed 2.2.5- Meet monthly with advisor and President 2.3The Powers and Responsibilities of the Secretary shall be: 2.3.1- Take minutes at organization meetings 2.3.2- Maintain complete and accurate records of all organization meetings. 2.3.3- Maintain complete and accurate records of all organization members and their attendance. 2.3.4- Report to the President 2.4The Powers and Responsibilities of the Treasurer shall be: 2.4.1- Keep complete and accurate account of the organizations funds

2.4.2- Sign requisitions for organization funds 2.4.3- Prepare the annual budget request packet with the president 2.4.4- Attend a Student Government Budget Workshop and ensure Advisor attends same Workshop 2.4.4- Report to the President Section 3- Chair Provisions 3.1- All Chairs must be a registered and enrolled student with a GPA of 2.0 or above during the entire term of office and at time of election. Incoming freshmen (those who not have previously attended a post-secondary institution or have no existing SFC grade point average) shall be exempt from the following qualifications requirements during the first academic semester in office or until a cumulative SFC grade point average has been established. 3.2- Any chair position can be created in addition to those listed, with a majority vote of the membership 3.3- For this to be a permanent change to the Constitution, a 2/3 vote must be attained. 3.4- An officer may hold any one (1) of these positions in addition to their leadership role. 3.5- The constant chair positions shall be: 3.2.1- Student Senate Representative 3.2.2- Fundraising Chair 3.2.3- Technology Chair

Section 4- Chair Powers and Responsibilities 4.1- The Powers and Responsibilities of the Student Senate Representative shall be: 4.1.1- Abide by Article F, Section 2 of the Student Government Constitution Bylaws 4.1.2- Represent the interests of the organization to the Student Senate

4.1.3- Report any pertinent information to the organization 4.2- The Powers and Responsibilities of the Fundraising Chair shall be: 4.2.1- Become a fundraising resource; 4.2.2- Create fundraising opportunities that the group can participate in; 4.2.3- Solicit contributions from businesses and private individuals; 4.2.4- Report the results of fundraising efforts to the organization 4.2.5- Deliver all monies fundraised to the cashiers office to be deposited in the organizations Fund 6 account 4.2.5.1- Before any monies are delivered, money must be counted by the Chair, the Treasurer and the Advisor and a signature from each must be given to the Secretary. 4.2.5.1.1- In the event that the Treasurer is unavailable or the Treasurer holds the position of Fundraising Chair, either the President or the Vice-President may count the money. 4.2.5.1.2- The copy given to the Secretary of all three signatures, along with the receipt received from Cashiers Office will be kept in a binder in the Advisors office, maintained by the Secretary. 4.3- The Powers and Responsibilities of the Technology Chair shall be: 4.3.1- Ensure all information on the Student Government website is kept up to date by reporting changes to the SG Websmith 4.3.2- Work with Secretary to ensure minutes are sent out via email on a timely basis 4.3.3- Work to promote events sponsored by the club through advertising via facebook and other pertinent technologies

Section 5- Elections 5.1- Elections shall be held the first (1 st) meeting of each semester 5.2- Each member in good standing shall have one (1) vote Section 6- Vacancy

6.1- In the event that the Presidency is vacant, the Vice-President shall assume the title of President 6.2- In the event that any other position is vacant, the members shall nominate and vote on a replacement in the meeting following knowledge of vacancy Section 7- Removal of Officers and Chairs 7.1- Grounds for removal of an officer or chair include: 7.1.1- Violation of College policy. 7.1.2- Violation of the SFC Code of Student Life. 7.1.3- Failure to perform the duties of the office as set forth in the constitution and bylaws of the organization. 7.1.4- Failure to uphold the provisions of this constitution and bylaws. 7.2- Declaration of Incapacity. 7.2.1- Motions to declare Incapacity of an Officer shall require the same removal process as other petition for removal, as stated in this constitution. 7.3- An officer may be removed by the following process: 7.3.1- A petition to remove the officer in question must be submitted to another officer. Such a petition must contain the signature of at least 20% of the voting members of the organization. When such a petition is received the President shall call a meeting of the organization to decide upon removal. 7.3.1.1- In the case that the President is the officer in question, the VicePresident shall call the meeting 7.3.2- The grounds for removal are to be presented by the officer in charge at a regular or special meeting of the organization. 7.3.3- The officer in question shall be provided one week to present a defense either in person or in writing. 7.3.4- A 2/3 majority vote of the voting membership shall decided upon removal, with voting not to occur sooner than one week after the presentation of the grounds. There must be a quorum for the vote of removal.

Article 4 Advisor
Section 1- Provisions This organization will have at least one member of the College faculty or administration serve as an adviser.

Section 2- Duties and responsibilities of the Adviser(s) 2.1- Be available to all members for consultation for advice, counsel, and as a resource 2.2- Meet weekly with President 2.3- Sign appropriate budget and event paperwork 2.4- Be familiar with College rules and Center for Student Leadership & Activities policies pertaining to student organizations and attend required workshops. 2.5- Attend organizations meetings and activities 2.6- Perform eligibility checks on all officers and members, and inform ineligible members of their status 2.7- Remove ineligible officers and members from their position 2.8- Keep open lines of communication with the Center for Student Leadership & Activities on matters of concern regarding the organization Section 3: Adviser Selection 3.1- The advisor shall be the same as the year before, unless the advisor declines the position. 3.2- In case of Advisor vacancy: 3.2.1- The executive board will meet with prospective advisers and make a recommendation to the general membership 3.2.2- The general membership will confirm the adviser(s) by a majority vote

Section 4: Adviser Removal 4.1- The general membership may remove an adviser by a majority 4.2- This vote may not take place until one week after the adviser is informed of the groups intent and one week after the Center for Student Leadership & Activities is notified 4.3- After Removal, Membership shall refer to Article 4, Section 3, Subsection 2 on Advisor Vacancy

Article 5 Amendments
Section 1- Procedure After deliberation of proposed amendments it shall be tabled until the next meetings, at which time it will be brought up for vote. A 2/3 majority will be required to pass amendments. Any amendments to earlier articles shall be corrected by the secretary by the next club meeting Any amendments that do not fall under previous articles shall be added after this Article.
