Role of Creativity in technical education

ABSTRACT
In our country we have many colleges and institutions which provide technical education to students, with the increase in population the demand of technical institutions and colleges have also increased, they provide the subject knowledge but no stress is given on practical work, that is why institutions abroad are more superior than ours. Other than this our technical educational system is more teacher dominant that is teachers have full control on the system and students are not given any rights. In foreign countries a child is given full independence to choose his career or field of interest but in our country no such system is followed due to which our technical educational system is not up to the required level except few institutions. All these factors have affected the creativity of students and the real talent is still hidden. In this article I have discussed how creativity can influence a students life.

Introduction
We live in the 21st century where technology is our need. Humans have created things which have made life simple and convenient. Day to day advancements are being made in the field of technology and the race is still on for producing the best and cheap quality products. The whole revolution is done due to creativity of humans. Creativity and curiosity to know things has made man successful. Creativity can be defined as capacity to have new thoughts and to create expressions unlike any other. Creativity is a basic element in many human endeavors, such as art, music, literature, and performance. It can also be defined as the ability to make or otherwise bring into existence something new, whether a new solution to a problem, a new method or device. A distinctive feature of creative thinking is doing or seeing or thinking things in a different way. Creative thinking can bring an alternate or better design to existing one. This helps in solving difficult problems, introduce new approaches,

strategies and catches attention. Creativity is interrelated to persons intelligence and personality. Creative people are usually intelligent.

The creative learner

Every person learns in a wide variety of ways, through:

listening to an explanation, answering a set of factual questions, reasoning logically, following a set of instructions, practicing a skill, analyzing and testing ideas

as well as

Brainstorming and exploring ideas, designing and making, solving problems, seeing links and connections, imagining and expressing perceptions.

The latter group of approaches is more closely linked with creative thinking. It is important for the creative learners development; therefore, that the learning experience includes these types of opportunities. These can also be said characteristics of a creative person.

INTELLIGENCE AND CREATIVITY

A creative person is usually very intelligent. But it is not obvious that an intelligent person should be creative. The difference between an intelligent person and creative person is that the former may use traditional approach of problem solving but a creative person will use a new or a better approach.

CREATIVITY FOR EVERYONETraditional thinking about creativity has been influenced by two myths. The first is that creativity is associated with the extraordinary activity by artists, scientists, and researchers, while ignoring the creativity of others such as those who participate in vocational and technical education. A second myth is the belief that creativity is a magical event that can best be nurtured through freethinking exercises like brainstorming. Current research shows that creativity in a corporate context is collaborative, involving people from all levels of an organization. But every person who is able to present good working ideas is creative. Whether a student or a scientist. Everyone is creative in some other field. For instance Thomas Alva Edison who made more than 1000inventions went school for three months only.

Creativity in technical education

Presently technical education is being provided to many students. Our current education scenario is changing producing highly creative minds. A lot of exposure is being given to students in technical education Creativity in technical education can be divided into two parts . the first type of creativity depends on a persons caliber which can be shown in his particular field of interest . the second type of creativity is that we follow in technical education. How can we make things in a different manner? This includes the problem solving approach of how, what and why? To sum up we can divide creativity in to two parts 1. Personal creativity 2. Creativity in education

Personal creativity
This includes the following points: Take account of your personality and temperament

To get good ideas you must take account of your personality and temperament in choosing your technical field or science and your interests in that field. Be yourself.

Powerful imagination-

Strong imagination leads to achievement of goals. Without imagining the output we can never take the right step. We can not proceed further if we dont imagine. Imagination leads to a creative person. Patience is must-

A patient person works more, thinks more and produces more output. Patience makes a person calm and he will be able to produce new ideas, which develops his creativity skills. For every design a person must have at least five or ten wrong or bad or useless ideas. Find colleagues who are smarter than you and know more.

Always look for persons who know more than you. The obvious advantages are she or he may be able to solve the problem that has produced a dead end in your work. Most important, smart and knowledgeable colleagues can save time. Avoid colleagues who are fast and loud talkers. In fact, it is best to avoid such people in general. You should be fond of the technology that you use, but not too much in love with it. There may be a better way. You will be more likely to think of improvements and variations. Visualization ability is crucial -

In engineering and scientific work it is crucial to be able to visualize how the work could be accomplished. The intended work might be the invention of a mechanical or electronic device,

Enjoy your work

CREATIVITY IN EDUCATION:This creativity is the way to be followed in colleges, schools. It can be described as follows: More practical and experimental work should be done:-

Instead of reading and writing, more emphasis should be laid on experimental work and practical work. A person retains more by practical work rather than reading and listening. Practicals increase the mental level and increases creativity. Mathematical ability is important

It is not that you must be a mathematical expert to make a creative design but you should have the basic knowledge of the formula applied. Look for the disadvantages and advantages of design so that best possible solution can be found to the problem. Dont get engaged in studies only but sometime should be given to mind for relaxing. So one must also participate in extra curricular activities and even sports also.

Problems faced by students in technical education which further affects the creativity:1. Engineering and science keep changing 2. More and more to learn 3. Competing with established technical centers 4. Responsibilities to local and world needs

PROPOSAL TO SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS or HOW CAN WE FIND A CREATIVE STUDENT?:These problems can only be solved by the help of teachers, parents, technical centers and the government. They can take the following initiative: Reduce stress on students and reduce competitiveness between students. Reduce the pressure to study 247 Reduce length of courses and size of textbooks Teach students to learn as they go in their work or in new work. So that they dont have o do extensive study to move into new technical areas. You can learn a subject or a technology as you need it. You can learn quickly from colleagues or seniors. Teach students to look for new directions in science and engineering, particularly directions that will fill local needs. Rework laboratories so that there is an emphasis on process and problem solving rather than finishing prescribed experiments. Counseling centers should be open which can determine students creativity and show him the right track. Guide students to enjoy their engineering or science and to enjoy there work foremost. Parents should motivate the child to work hard from school days itself.

Conclusion
Creative thinking can bring changes, revolutionize the whole world, can solve big problems, and introduce new strategies, concepts. But for this we will have to think beyond the conventional or traditional approaches and develop a new era of technologies. All this is possible with the help of channelization of ones creativity in right direction. For this we all have to work together for a better future
