The contest was created in 2007 by Mexus Education. Re discover Science, Redefine learning, Reward ingenious talent are the three "R"s that best s um up the reason for this Science Contest (Iken Scientifica).This is a nation-wi de competition designed to promote hands-on learning by introducing children to a wide array of concepts, principles, and materials to help them innovate and learn. This MASMO Science Contest (Iken Scientifica) endeav ours to provide students a real-world exposure through application of scientific concepts. It is bas ed on the belief that every children is a genius and it is through harnessing their inquisitiveness and cu riosity that the gap can be bridged between theory and practical learning. It gives children the opport unity to prove their mettle on a national platform and earn big awards.

WHY IS IKEN SCIENTIFICA SPECIAL? (a) MASMO Science Contest (Iken Scientific a) enables students to understand the connection

between the curricular knowledge and practical applications.

(b)	A competition like this tests the knowledge and understanding of concept s in children so that they
	can know where they stand amongst others in curri cular and extracurricular activities.
(c)	MASMO Science Contest (Iken Scientifica) allows students to go through a learning process which involves exploration, experience and extrapolation.
(d)	Student work toward the final objective of parti cipating and excelling in the competition, thus fostering a spirit of a healthy competition.
(e)	A collaborative platform to conduct hands-on based activity and foster a holistic approach towards problem solving in the minds of the children.
(f)	Practical learning approach is encouraged at this event
(g)	Students from diverse backgroun ds can interact with each other.

WHAT IS IKEN SCIENTIFICA ALL ABOUT? Iken Scientifica is the hands-on science & te chnology competition for students in Year 4 to 9; Category 1: Year 4-5, Category 2: Year 6-7, Category 3: Year 8-9

1. A platform focusing on creation of innovativ e ideas amongst children where they explore and experiment with curiosity.

2. Brings a challenging spirit among participants, w here the competition serves only as an incentive & develop holistic learning capabilities within a child.

3. It is a confluence of diverse ideas and talents across the globe.

4. From model making to sumo robot wrestling t o life size chess tournaments. MASMO Science Contest (Iken Scientifica) presents a hand s-on learning experience for students.

CONTEST FORMAT Evaluation : The performance of the child is measured with help of "Enterprise Index". This index is a combination of five parameters of skills-observati on, analysis, extrapolation, practicality and memory. Students are given percentage scores in each skill based on their performance in the competition.

The competition works at three levels. The first being selecting students from schools through a scientific aptitude and skill analysis test. Students are then encourage to take part in MASMO Science Contest (Iken Scientifica) Intensive Workshops as a prepa ratory training before competing at the National and International Final Round.

Round 1: Written Date : 18 ^th October 2011 / 19 ^th October 2011 / 20 ^th October 2011 Time : 1 hour Venue : If the participants are less than 10, school has to make arrangement to send students to neighbouring participating schools. If participant s are 10 and above, the contest venue will be at the participating school. Format : Written 1 hour 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) test either at individual schools. Award : Each participant will receives a Certificate and EI (Enterprise Index) Report. This EI report is a combination of five parameters. This report hel ps parents and teachers to understand the preference and non preferences in terms of learning style for each students.

Top 20% students out of all participants with out standing scores gets to Round 2, National Final.

Round 2: National Final, Junk Create (Category 1 & 2) Date : 26 ^th November 2011 Time : 1.00pm - 7.00pm Venue : The Mines Exhibition Hall Format : To create a gadget with loads of relevant material. Idea is to create a working model from Junk that not only involves concept s of Science but develops all around personality of the child. The child would get a project to work on, he would be given certain "Kens", all raw material & tools required for the project, model it and then sell it in the virtual marketplace. This gives students insights of the real life scenario and scope to be creative and innovativ e. Duration of the event would be around 3 hours. Material Fee : RM 35 (paid by those who are qualified for this round.)

Round 2: National Final, Junk Create (Category 3)

Date	: 27 th November 2011
Time	: 1.00pm - 7.00pm

Venue : The Mines Exhibition Hall Format : A platform which the format are same as above. Material Fee : RM 35 (paid by those who are qualified for this round.)

Award : Individual Certificate and Medal.

P/S : The actual date and time will be confirmed depending on the number of participant into Round 2.

Top 2 students from each Category 1, Category 2 and Category 3 would be declared winners to represent Malaysia to International finals in India.

Round 3: International Finals Date : Mid of May 2012 Venue : India Format : Winners from Round 2 get to visit India 2 day s and participate in the final round with other students from across the globe. The 2 days eve nt includes various rounds of competition.

 Techno Maze - A complex Maze with numerous hands-on problem statements.

 Computer based simulations and contraption design.

 Designing high-end machines using r elevant materials and know how.

These competitions focus on audio visual skills, m ental and physical activities. Students get to do perform in a group as well as independently. Organiz er will sponsoring all the fund and expenses for the 6 National Final winners to International Finals in India.
