THE WITNESS

Age: 31 Arrested May 19, 2009, charged with rst-degree murder. Went to high school in Richmond Hill and studied culinary arts at Torontos George Brown College. Worked for a Guelph landscaper. Moved to Woodstock in 2007, where he lived with his mother until his arrest.

Called to the bar in 1993. Counsel in more than 70 jury trials, 30 murder trials. Recently successful in striking down three-year mandatory minimum for rearm oences. Has stressed to media since day one the full story is not yet known.

21, is expected to be a key witness in the trial. Adopted as a baby, raised in MacTier, in and out of foster homes, detention centres and troubles with the law. Arrested May 19, 2009 and pleaded guilty April 30, 2010 to rst-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Shes the mystery woman seen in surveillance video walking with Tori Staord before her disappearance. At her trial, she apologized for the abduction and killing of Tori Staord.

THE MOTHER

Once a police suspect, expected to be a witness in the trial. Her unusual news conferences each day while Tori was missing attracted criticism and suspicions of her motives but also kept her daughters plight front and centre in media, and persuaded some she could not be involved.

Aged 8. Her family called her their spunky little princess. Loved to sleep in Saturdays, go to church Sundays, play with her big brother, fan of Hannah Montana, and the colour purple giving rise to the tiny purple ribbons worn in her memory.

Blaming himself for not being there for his children, he attended his ex-wifes daily news conferences and numerous vigils for Tori and has vowed to help protect all children from predators. Organized two bicycle rides to raise money for ChildFind.

Aable, 30-year veteran with municipal and OPP forces. As OPP Det Insp., took command of investigation April 17, 2009. Case changed from missing persons to kidnapping. Left OPP to join Woodstock police service as operations inspector in 2010.
