PROBLEM STATEMENT To design a software on ACTIVE CITY ADMINISTRATION to promote citizens and authorities of the city to convey their problems, grievances and suggestions to ameliorate facilities for a better city. MOTIVATION The citizens are unaware of current services and their application is very limited. They offer a very large response time which distracts the citizen from participating. The reasons for this are : 1.Lack of time- Citizens are busy with their daily life 2.Lack of active involvement- Due to their busy schedule they cant spare time for it. 3.Unawareness about facilities- People dont take interests in fields other than their own life 4.Long response time- If a citizen takes interest or participates then the response time is too long 5. Inadequate Services- the services provided are not enough 6. Lack of centralized mechanism for notifications- People are not aware of the current scenario around them due to poor notification.

OBJECTIVES To create a user-friendly online interface for citizens to communicate with administrative bodies and, reduce the distance and time barriers between citizens and administration. To create an online platform where people can share ideas, invoke discussions, issue complaints, create suggestion/petitions for improvement of citys administration. To encourage the citizens to actively participate in city administration to bring transparency and flexibility in the system. TECHNOLOGIES TO BE USED

UML, J2EE, XML, e-Forms, AJAX, Web 2.0, Web-services, SOA

UML-Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a standardized general-purpose modeling language in the field of Object-Oriented Software Engineering. The UML will be beneficial in implementing OOSE elements like sequence diagrams use cases etc relevant to the project. 2

J2EE-Java EE is a widely used platform for server programming in the Java programming language.

XML-Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a set of rules for encoding documents in machine-readable form. AJAX-Ajax is a group of interrelated web development methods used on the clientside to create interactive web applications. WEB 2.0-The term Web 2.0 is associated with web applications that facilitate participatory information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design,[1] and collaboration on the World Wide Web. WEB-SERVICES-A Web service is a method of communication between two electronic devices over a network. SOA-Service-Oriented Architecture is type of software architecture for creating and using business processes, packaged as services HARDWARE Processor RAM Hard Disk Monitor Key Board : : : : Pentium 4 2.60GHz 512 MB 80GB :15 Color monitor 122 Keys
SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION

Operating System Language Database SOFTWARE

: Windows XP. : Java 2 Runtime Environment : DB2

ROSE/RSA / Web Sphere Modeler-Web Sphere Process Server is the runtime engine for artifacts produced in a business-driven development process. Technically

Eclipse/ RAD / Lotus Forms Designer / Port let Factory-Eclipse is a multilanguage software development environment comprising an integrated development environment (IDE) and an extensible plug-in system. Web Sphere Portal/ WAS/ WAS CE / WPS-IBM Web Sphere Portal is a set of software tools that enables companies to build and manage web portals.

DB2 Express C or DB2 UDB -The IBM DB2 Enterprise Server Edition is a relational model database server developed by IBM. It primarily runs on Unix (namely AIX), Linux, IBM i (formerly OS/400), z/OS and Windows servers. DB2 also powers the different IBM Info Sphere Warehouse editions. Alongside DB2 is another RDBMS Tivoli CDP/TSM / Tivoli Directory Server-IBM Tivoli Directory Server (ITDS), formerly known as IBM Directory Server, is an IBM implementation of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, and is part of the IBM Tivoli Identity & Access Management portfolio. SCOPE In terms of Applicability of Software The website acts as an excellent reporting tool. It will help bridge the communication gap between the citizens and the city authorities. In terms of Features Website is highly customizable and flexible enough to easily deploy. That means, if we want to use this site for any other municipal authority, it would take least amount of time and efforts. Simplicity of interface. Complete separation of complaints according to its type: Garbage, Road etc.

PROCESS MODEL The model used will be SPIRAL MODEL. This model has been proposed by Boehm in 1988. As the name suggests, the activities in this model can be organized like a spiral i.e each iteration of the prototype represented as a cycle in the spiral.. We are using the spiral model because it is risk oriented as here if we are facing some risks or problems in forming the software then we can resolve it.

We chose Spiral Model over Waterfall Model because in Waterfall model is linear in process and is not risk oriented, for instance if something needs to be edited in software in previous stage then we cannot edit it. Major reasons for choosing Spiral model High amount of risk analysis. Good for large and Mission-critical projects. Software is produced early in software lifecycle. CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE PROJECT 6

Social Contribution : The website would help citizens from every look and corner of the city to interact with highest of authority and convey their problems and suggestions Economic Contribution :People can access it from anywhere via internet . Technical Contribution :Here we use HTTP in this website. Operational Contribution : It will give rise to many new features which were needed in this field and will thus increase the functionality of the website.

CRITICISMS OF THE PROJECT Every website comes with a risk of hacking, so there is a risk that our website may get hacked. The domain of NGOs has not been covered in this website and is left for the future development of this project. DELIVERABLES The project deliverables will be: Project Report Software CD User Manual Troubleshooting Guide REFERENCES
