BUILDING CALCULATOR

problem ?
presence of too much inefficiently used spaces in buildings that could be better programmed for more functional uses? such as increased housing units to accomodate for projected NYC population growth of 1 million by 2030

goal !
provide alternate mode of redistributing programmed spaces for maximizing use and promote green infrastructure, while 1. promoting efficient energy consumption 2. generating positive investor interest 3. solving housing shortage 4. promoting positive supportive housing outlook

PERFORMA-GRAM
what is the architect nowadays ?
In presence of specialization, we are resorted to hyper problem solving techniques that forces us to become managers of professions as opposed to creators of space. In the context of the CBIP studio, is it possible to find a middle ground between: a tool that generates no distinctive geometry, or a geometry that has nothing to do with architectural communication? Understanding this in the context of current modes of architectural communication, we are stripped of traditional drawings and design methodologies, and must think of a new mode of architecture to address programmatic requirements and energy performance criteria simultaneously. How does one do that without an ad hoc approach? How can one truly understand the energy performance of a programmatic placement in the design process and alter their design as they proceed? My element, the performative diagrammer, will utilize the parametric and optimization capabilities of CATIA to generate plan possibilites that satisfy a twofold need of upcoming metropolitan construction projects: 1. how to meet increasing occupancy loads 2. how to maximize energy reduction in such renovation projects.
