Member of the Academy of the Romanian Scientists ; Scientific Secretary of the Geonomic Sciences Department; Associate professor within the University of Applied Sciences of the Polytechnic University from Bucharest; Scientific secretary of the Unesco Chair in Geodynamics Romanian Academy.

Founding President of the Center for Complexity Studies UNESCO center, the main promoter of the complexity science paradigm in Romania.
Areas of specialty: Consultancy and mentoring for training in the human resources for a knowledge based economy (mind building). Designing and production of the technical and conceptual framework for the transfer of knowledge and forming the specific abilities for working in interdisciplinary teams, capable to operate efficiently in a stormy economy. The coordination of the activities for continuous personal development through specific techniques for a continuous learning.

ABOUT THE CENTER FOR COMPLEXITY STUDIES

The Center for Complexity Studies (CCS) is a non-profit non-governmental organization with no political affiliation, created in 1996, as one of the first private research centers in Romania, dedicated to promoting the new paradigm of Complexity. While most of the Centers activities are carried out locally, we foster strong international ties with members and contributors in other countries (Canada, Spain, USA, and Singapore). In 2003, the Center has received special recognition by affiliation with UNESCO, as UNESCO Club.

Mission
The main objective of CCS is to stimulate the diffusion of scientific and creative ideas within the whole Romanian society. In order to achieve this aim, CCS is assuming a pro-active role as a tri-lateral bridge between: Academics, researchers, Companies and business leaders capable of actual implementation of complexity concepts on the market. Policy-makers and the civil society. By employing the most recent results in interdisciplinary applied research, this interaction is channeled towards the creation, design and conceptualization of new theoretical models and products that exploit nonlinear phenomena.

Major goal
To generate and develop an educational network, dedicated to the motivation of the young generation about scientific carrier in the frame of a global society and based on a continues learning process.
(the NEXUS Romanian network for an inter and trans-disciplinary approach to Nature)

GLOBAL CONTEXT
All the Artifacts generated by our civilization needs, when combined with the Natural ones (in which they are situated and/or with which they interact for their normal operation) generate an entirely new System, of a dierent type and quality. Natural and Articial systems are now intermingled, interacting, interrelated and interdependent, thus permanently dening and inuencing each other, giving rise to an entirely new and qualitatively dierent dynamics. This novel symbiosis and its dynamics are only partly controllable or predictable, and in order to be understood (even if only partially) they have to be examined using an interdisciplinary approach, a reevaluation of the classical sciences, a fundamental change in the points of views and techniques used to study, model and predict such complex systems.

Critical point

New social system

Old social system

A complex process of redifining the profound structure or the social system

Complexity is not a methodology or a set of tools (although it does provide both). It certenly is not a management fad. The Science of Complexity provide a conceptual framework, a way of thinking, a way of seeing the World
Eve Mitleton Kelly, Complexity Research Program, London school of Economics

The need for a new kind of education, beyond the information transfer ( a humanistic approach)
Evolution of knowledge and application of its destructive power; without ethics and morality centered on preserving life, the human race will self destroy.

COMPLEXITY SCIENCE A NEW PARADIGM

Assembles for the first time the concepts and tools for analyzing complex systems in a wide range of fields Reflects the real world by integrating complexity with the deterministic equations and concepts that define matter, energy, and the four forces identified in nature Benefits a broad audience: undergraduates, researchers and practitioners in mathematics and many related fields

It is not enough to have information and knowledge! The problem is to know how to use them efficiently and correlated with the dynamics of reality, for the benefit of menkind. We need to have Wisdom for this, which comes with a different view, more comprising, of the world in which we live.. Florin Munteanu

From Economics to Sociology and International Politics, the Science of Complexity gives up the linear and mechanical classical approach, in favour of a new vision based on a non-linear dynamics, the theory of systems and evolution. The entire world is made up of adaptive complex systems open systems, in which the components change continuously, organize themselves and influence each other. Each party codevelops with the rest of the system, following the satisfaction of a common purpose, as the survival of the whole. Examples of complex systems are the stock exchange, the businesses, the human society, the ecosystems, the brain or the immunity system.

NEW NEEDS - NEW GOALS

A thorough restructuring of the Educational System so that its 'classic' fundaments would be not only changed and improved but also expanded by including new elements, such as Continuous Teaching/Learning, Non-formal and Informal Teaching/Learning, On-line/Remote Teaching/Learning and Self-Learning, Multi-user laboratories . The highest priority and attention will also be given to the seeding and development of the "soft" skills, such as:
- Improving communications at interhuman and human-to-Technology levels, according to the new developments and the last novelties in the field of IT&C, - Changing the mentality at individual and society levels, both in governmental and private spheres, in order to establish an effective and lucrative Public-to-Private Initiative Partnership. The main target of this Partnership would be the development of the Human Being as well as improving the standard of life al global scale.

Generate a new interactive Mass Media Environment: It would allow achieving two fundamental and vital goals. First, it should be capable to diffuse the products of the third culture on a large scale by reaching a wide audience. Secondly, its interactivity would enable its constant re-shaping into new forms, elements and formats, according to the feedback, interests and talents of the participants themselves. Technically, such a solution can be accomplished by shaping it according to the wellknown Internet model, and also additionally completing and complementing the Internet-based part by integrating it together with Radio, TV (TRANS-MEDIA)

BRINGING TOGETHER DIFFERENT GENERATION

at the upper secondary level, the program seeks to give priority to identifying and motivating youth with opening up to a scientific and technical careers, the formation of the main skills and habits necessary to conduct/participate to/ activities in the framework of a team; (the results of the activities carried out under programs customized in every high school and personalized by professional psychological structure of teachers, will gradually set up a database containing the successful experiences and good practices);

BRINGING TOGETHER DIFFERENT GENERATION

at the level of secondary schools and youth science clubs program supports activities as edutainment programs (like Science Fun, Hands on Science, expeditions to areas of ecological interest, geophysical, socio-cultural, technical courses in museums and Sciences); educational act intentions is to motivate the learning in general, raising children and parents awareness toward the training for selfassessment skills, personal development, management of the initiative for a future career in consonance with the changes in the society.

GAIA the living planet

The basic Project

The Science of the Entire Earth starts from the following postulates
The modeling of geodynamic processes necessarily implies a non-linear approach of the Geo-Astrophysical interaction, the study of scale dependency of phenomena, as well as the study of the negentropic processes which have been induced by the evolution of the Living- influence on the inorganic medium; On a planetary scale the geostasis is generated by the multiple interactions between the living and the geophysical medium, interactions which confer a unitary behavior to the ensemble (the GAIA model), of a new quality, which needs to be studied in a special ontological frame, based on the triad Information-Energy-Matter; The human being is an arhem with a structured access in Reality through intro-opening (Drgnescu model, quantum interactions) and with a dominant role in assuring a sustainable development.
Arhem: quasi-system made out of structural and phenomenological elements, which possess the property of consciousness. Belongs to the class of intro-open systems. Reality with an architecture which is not only limited to the system. Intro-Opening: Drgnescu defines intro-opening as the access to info-matter of certain physical structures from the Universe, thus, through this becoming living organisms. A HOLISTIC VIEW NAMED GAIA

Global self-regulation is a natural consequence of the interactions between the biota and the physical world; The holistic approach of viewing Gaia as one entity and comparing Gaia to a living organism seems to be legitimate and it has a practical use Lovelock, J. E. 1987. Gaia: A New Look at Life on Earth. Remarks: - Living organisms and especial the MAN, are crucial parts in the behavior of GAIA (informational processors, quantum physics); - Geodynamical events, ecological events, social and economic behavior, are aspects of the GAIA life - Understanding the GAIA phenomenon is crucial for defining a sustainable development on mankind.

THE NEXUS-T PROGRAM

The novel and innovatively creative contributions brought by the NEXUS program are configured in a multi-component ensemble formed of:
a) The NEXUS room: a space dedicated and equipped especially for documentation, courses, multidisciplinary dialogue and consulting, lab experiments, etc. The activity in the room is carried out in groups structured around various subjects chosen from the Open Projects database;

THE NEXUS-T PROGRAM

b) The complex teaching object (CTO) is a hardware/software mixture that allows experimental multidisciplinary exploration of the processes and phenomena of interest, according to the topics selected from an Open Project. The CTO is designed in such a way that it specifically enables and stimulates creativity and formation of new abilities: attention, ability to correlate the knowledge gained during the course, initiative, collaboration, and communication within interdisciplinary teams, etc;
