New Day & Time for Cadet Meetings

To better accommodate the needs and time constraints for our cadets, we will be implementing a new schedule for their meetings. Starting May 5th, cadets will meet at the Red Oak Airport every Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:45pm. Each week will focus on a different program and testing will be available as well. CadetsWe need you to be fully prepared at each meeting! This means studying the appropriate material prior meeting nights and bringing PT gear to change into for PT testing. There will be a brief review session prior to testing, but it will be very beneficial for you to keep up and be prepared. If you will not be able to make it to a meeting, you need to email 2Lt Erickson or call 888-445-3049 (option #2) NLT 12pm on the day of the meeting. Keep in mind that you can test ahead, but that you can not be promoted more than once in an eight week period.

Senior Member Testing

If you are planning on becoming certified for ground team or UDF or nearly any other emergency services area, there are certain tests that you will have to take. They include: ICS 100 ICS 700 GES 116 GES 117 (Parts 1, 2, & 3) All of the above can be taken online either through e-Services or through FEMAs website. Depending on what other areas you might want to focus on, the following tests will be needed: ICS 200 ICS 300 ICS 400 ICS 800 The ICS 200 test can be taken online through FEMAs website (linked above). However, the ICS 300, 400 and 800 all require in-class training. Opportunities for these classes will generally be announced via email. Classes fill up quickly so if one becomes available, please announce your intentions right away! Please note that cadets will also need these tests. Once youve taken and passed them, you will receive an email with a link for your certificate. Please forward that to SM Brace.

CAP Dr iver s License

Currently we have 4 senior members with CAP drivers licenses. Now that we have a van at our disposal and can use it for travel to trainings and other activities, it would be beneficial to have as many people available to drive as possible. To get your CAP drivers license, download the following IA DOT form, fill it out and sent it and a check for $5.50 to the following address:
Office of Driver Services Iowa Dept. of Transportation P.O. Box 9204 Des Moines, Iowa 50306-9204

Wing Transportation officer at the following address:

Don Hahn 4822 Lorton Davenport, IA 52807

Once you receive your driving records, make a copy for yourself and send the original to the Iowa

Once approved, you will receive your CAPF 75. Be sure to carry it with you at all times.

Recr uiting
Weve recently received recruiting materials from National and many members have already begun distributing those materials out to local communities. Besides written material, word of mouth can be a strong advocate in our recruiting efforts. When people ask you about CAP, be upbeat and believe what youre saying. If they ask you a question that you dont know the answer to, simply tell them you dont know, but offer to look it up when you can and email them with the answer. Making one-on-one contact, either in person, via phone or via email is also a very useful tool and one that we need to be sure we actively use. Dont forget to check in with those who have expressed interest just to make sure that were answering any questions they might have. PAGE 4

April 17, 2009 Lt. Col. Troy Krabbenhoft Public Affairs Officer North Dakota Wing

NORTH DAKOTA As the weather in North Dakota improves, citizen volunteers from Civil Air Patrol continue to support flood relief efforts throughout the state. Flying in support of the state of North Dakota, CAP aircraft and aircrews

from all 11 squadrons in the North Dakota Wing have been taking thousands of digital photos of the major rivers in the state, including the Missouri, Knife, Heart, Souris, Sheyenne, James, Wild Rice, Maple and the Red. This monumental effort involves North Dakota Wings five aircraft, flying out of bases at Minot,

Dickinson, Bismarck, Fargo and Grand Forks to provide the states emergency responders with a real-time picture of the flooding. Since March 20, CAP aircrews have made 95 flights totaling 230 hours, capturing more than 5,000 photos for the State Emergency Operations Center. Read More

A National Bargain: The US Civil Air Patrol

The US Civil Air Patrol was established as the civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force in 1941, just before the Pearl Harbor attack. It has now been placed under the Air Force Homeland Security Directorate. CAPs volunteer pilots fly reconnaissance missions for homeland security, search and rescue and disaster relief, and even counterdrug reconnaissance at the request of government or law enforcement agencies. They transport medical personnel and supplies, blood and live tissue. In times of disaster, they assess damage and transport emergency personnel from site to site. Now, a modest modernization is underway. Overall, its an exceptionally effective, and costeffective, force. DID offers details regarding a recent contract, as well as CAPs force structure, budget, and ongoing modernization programs CAP: Forces and Plans Overall, CAP has over 58,000 members in over 1,700 local units across the United States. CAP members are civilians and are not paid by the U.S. government for their CAP service. They do not have command authority over members of the United States military, nor are they subject to command. As part of recognition of CAPs service to the USAF, however, CAP members are allowed to wear U.S. as part of their uniform, and CAP members are required to render military courtesy to all members of U.S. and friendly foreign military personnel. Most members of the U.S. military will also render military courtesy to CAP officers, though they are not required to. Read More
